  1. QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Rios' agent on the radio explaining the autograph situation Here's a quick summary for anyone that doesn't have the time to listen to that (thanks for the link that was a good listen): Rios was out with his fiance and he said Rios should have handled it better but that you need to know Rios signs for this kid regularly and the guy who he was cussing out was the biggest autograph seller in Toronto. Basically put, Rios just said hey kid, not tonight (the kid was getting the auto for it to be sold) and than the other guy snapped off.
  2. QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) Dan Hudson might start Wed. I have a link but it says the server is down, its from ChicagoTribune.com Hahn and Fabian were there and they had to really like what they saw. Huddy had a big time start against one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. He's now out-dueled a whole lot of top 15 pitching prospects this season.
  3. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) Gotta love Ozzie's stubborn loyalty... He's also saying we don't know whose starting Tuesday when it is a foregone conclusion that Frederico will be back on the mound.
  4. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:33 PM) Oz said Contreras will stay in rotation cause they have no other options. Really? Unbelievable. I don't buy it. Hudson just pitched the s*** out of the ball. I'd rather not throw him out there in the pennant race cause it could do more bad than good (most likely) to his development, although if he's mentally tough he'll be fine regardless (and I think he is). But I still think Torres is a better option.
  5. I still say who the hell did Toronto have that was a leader? No one. They couldn't lead for s***. You had players fighting with managers, a jackass GM calling out other teams players, etc. Now he's coming to Chicago with a top flight manager (Cito is top notch though as well) and a ton of real solid veterans all while playing in a pennant race for one of the few times in his career and doing it in a city that LOVES baseball. Really Toronto is nothing like Chicago.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) Rios is going to be a better defensive CF than Rowand right? Just making sure. I think he will be.
  7. QUOTE (italian sox fan @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) Ehi guys this web site is awesome!!! Im from Italy and I always love Chicago White Sox and with this web site I can always know what happen in Chicago and the last news about White Sox team!!! Congratulations to the creators!!! Even in Italy we know one simple thing...Chicago is only White Sox!!! I HATE CUBS!!! Italian Sox Fan (Milan West Side) Welcome aboard...any fan of Mario is a fan of mine!!!
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) Freddy will pitch Tuesday either way. Hudson would be replacing Contreras on Wednesday. 1-2-3 7th inning for Hudson. Still under 100 pitches. Wow, really sounds like Huddy might be up by Wednesday. I think he could benefit from some more time in the minors but the kid is clearly poised.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) No joke. He is just beautiful out there. We haven't seen a defender out there like this for a long time. It was amazing. I'm pretty sure its going to be simliar to what I see when Cutler starts throwing passes in Chicago.
  10. Sure reports of Rios aren't that great, but the guy was playing on a team that never had a shot to win anything. They were a solid club, but they had no shot in there division year in and year out. Losing and not contending impacts teams and everything. Is that video discouraging, sure, but I bet there are videos similar for a ton of players in the majors because when push comes to shove there are going to be the ocassional times you get sick or annoyed by the fans and want some personal space. Bottom line, I'm giving Alex a fresh chance. He's got tools and he's never done anything criminal for us to be concerned with. Plus the Jays clubhouse had all kinds of issues the past few years(Managers fighting with players, an ahole GM, etc) so really, I could care less what is coming out of that place.
  11. Character Counts: What to Make of Alex Rios By Mario Scalise SoxNet Tools are nice, statistics are better, on-field performance is the best. But when you have a player locked up for five years and are paying him millions above what he's shown he's worth till this point in his career, knowing what you're getting as a person is pretty important....Entire Article Here
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) This turned out to be a pretty accurate thread Cubano, except the fact that Fields got demoted. Alexei could be an elite SS if he wasn't so erratic. The good thing was it was his first year playing it at a professional level so it should be expected.
  13. Beautiful...game over. Oh and Alex Rios is f***ing good in center. So fluid, nice to watch a natural Cfer. Nice win. Contreras just made what might be his final outing in a White Sox uniform.
  14. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) I don't consider $4M a ridiculously extravagant amount of money to add (even in this economy), and the only NL contender that I know doesn't want to add ANY payroll is the Cubs. It's pretty much impossible to tell what's going on at this point. It would be difficult to believe that Minaya didn't put Wagner on waivers, but I would think that the interested parties would've been leaked by now. Either that, or Minaya IS dangling him but no serious talks have happened because nobody wants to give up anybody decent for a guy coming off of major arm surgery. $4M for ~40 games is a pretty significant amount of money to give to a reliever. We as Sox fans complain about Linebrink and Dotel and they get that for an entire season.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) We have Twins and Tigers fans too. And they're all good posters, including HM, so I'd lay off him. But the DeJesus/Rios comparison is a bit out there. Rios has better tools but DeJesus is a pretty darn solid player. If you factor in contracts it would be a more interesting discussion, straight up I'm taking Rios, mainly because of his defensive abilities and upside potential.
  16. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) I'll bet that the Cardinals, Pihllies, Giants, and Dodgers would be willing to do it. And they'd all get a shot before us. Dodgers acquired Sherill so I don't know if they'd go for Wagner or not. Phillies added a lot of payroll so again, not too certain on whether they'd put a straight waiver claim. I basically think all of those teams would be interested but I think anyone that wants him probably wants the Mets to pick up at least $2 million so my guess is no one put a claim in because of that (but that is all speculation on my part).
  17. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) If he started the year in Winston-Salem and put up an 800something OPS people wouldn't be calling him overrated. He was too aggressively assigned, but he has adjusted and currently belongs in AA. If you take away his putrid April, he is hitting .288 with a .407 slugging. Not great, but certainly he belongs at the level and he's only 20. And people have to remember that there is a cultural adjustment too. Hell, look at what Alexei Ramirez did the first month of 2008.
  18. The number I had for his salary owed came from a few articles but I just did the math on it and it would be closer to $3M just for this season, plus $1M for the option so a total of $4M. I can't imagine many teams willing to pick up the $4M contract so my guess is that he's already cleared waivers and at this point you'd be talking about the Mets picking up close to half of that contract and its just a matter of what the opponent is willing to give up. For Wagner at $2 million would you guys be willing to trade Carlos Torres? Would the Mets do that?
  19. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) First off, love the blog. I've been reading almost everything in there since it started. Secondly, I think Wagner would be a great addition to a pen who's only worthwhile pen option is Thornton. The rest of our bullpen, including Jenks, is very Jekyll & Hyde. Thanks for the kind words Ninetrain
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Are the Mets really in a bad position financially? I mean, if there's a team out there that should be able to say "We'll pick up a portion of the salary but we want a legit future reliever in return" shouldn't that be a team that just opened a new stadium in NYC? Ya, but I couldn't see that piece being anything more than a Carlos Torres type of guy, if that. So that means it probably isn't worth it to the Mets. They obviously don't need to dump the cash but if I were them, I'd rather have an extra couple mil laying around, especially with all the massive changes they will be making this off-season (or at least I expect them to make).
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) And Neal Cotts sat around in the bullpen saying "come on fellas, gather around and I will tell you a tale of what it is like to pitch in the ALCS" Haha, that was an insane ALCS...gotta love all those complete games.
  22. The Sox are going to sign Morgado but it will go down to the wire. My guess is they already have an above slot offer and the sides are just playing a bit of hardball up until the deadline. Doesn't sound good on Jones.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Game 3 of the WS says hi. Well I meant it from the stand-point most of the time you wouldn't need to rely on anyone else. If our starters get rocked, well they won't contend and I'd expect the other relievers to be used only in a situational role. It would really be great having three plus relievers to turn too. Hell, look at 2005 where the Sox had Cotts/Politte/Jenks to turn to.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) If the Mets were smart, he was the first player they put on waivers to clear, so that he'd be tradeable if he got to the point that he was pitching. Exactly. If he has cleared waivers and he comes out and pitches real good in a start or two, well the price-tag will go up. But it will really just be a demand question cause if only one team is interested the Mets just need to sell for whatever they can get (plus the financial savings) since Wagner does nothing to help them.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) I like Jenks. all I am saying is that Wagner gives the sox a very nice security blanket for setup AND closer With the way off-days work in the post-season there really is little reason the Sox would need to use anyone in the pen other than Jenks/Thornton/Wagner (since they'd never be pitching more than 2 days in a row).
