  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) and unemployed Nah, its Chicago, his dad is still collecting unemployment
  2. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) How come I am the only one on here that complains about working too much? Seriously though the people I work with tell me I am a mad man for working the hours that I work. I stopped working for the slave shop and started working for a lesser slave shop so in comparison, I don't think I work that much (still 47 or so hours a week though). But it beats the f*** out of 60+ hr's a week.
  3. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) I have never once served jury duty. I think the courts get me and my dad who are Sr. and Jr. mixed up or something. I get to do it the week you come out. Hopefully they don't put me on some massive drug case, haha.
  4. That wouldn't have been all that bad from Seattle's perspective, especially the 1st trade, imo.
  5. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) "Scot Gregor of the Daily Herald says in his blog that the White Sox could sign veteran outfielder Jermaine Dye to a two-year extension and likely will cut ties with Jim Thome at the end of the season. Gregor notes that Dye remains a productive player and enjoys playing in Chicago." To tell you the truth wouldn't mind this at all. As long as dye DH and they get a new RF Speculation or not, I'd be a big fan of that move. I know one of the two will be gone and If I were going to pick I'd let it be Thome and not Dye, who has been one of the most productive Rfers during his tenure in Chicago.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) I need to see more out of Joe Mauer before I am willing to pay him $20 million a year for 10 years. I understand he is one of the league's best hitters - there is no disputing that - but the power he showed earlier this season has tailed off. My guess is he will resume being a 15-20 home run guy next year and I just don't think he is worth $20 million a year if he is going to be an .870 OPS player. However, should he show he can still hit for the power he flashed earlier in the year and hit for a high average, putting up the 1.000 OPS he is currently, then he is probably worth that kind of contract. As it stands right now, his career numbers to me dictate he is an .870 OPS player. Are you going to pay him $20 million a year while you could pay Flowers a mere fraction of that to post an .800-830 OPS himself? I'm not... All while playing gold glove defense. I don't think I'd give him that type of deal but if he hits the open market he'll get it or something close to it, imo.
  7. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) Yea, I was referring more to what it was at the time of the deal. Minny traded a 4ish ERA pitcher with some unfulfilled promise (he had started to fulfill finally at that point)......for a guy who was very highly regarded as a prospect that just hadnt delivered on his power promise and hasnt Danks for McCarthy.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) If Mauer can last as a catcher with no major injuries through the end of 2010, then someone will pay him as a catcher. His bat at 1b or DH is nice but no where near what he could get as a catcher. He's a 5/$100 or better player at catcher. He's a 4/$48 DH/1b, give or take. If you don't think he can last at C, then stay the hell away from him. I'd take Joe over Tex and Tex just got an insane 10 year deal to play first base so I think your way off in your estimates. I think he gets a 10yr 200M offer or something close.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) A lot of teams may still be trying to hold their ground or shedding salary at that point, the job market isn't likely to really turn around until then, so attendance could be still under pressure the next 2 years. That combined with the number of bad deals out there (See: Chicago, NL) will knock out 1/2 the teams. Then there will be the teams that have a C. The Yankees and Red Sox will be in there. But the Yankees do have at least 1 young catcher on his way up right? It's a winnable bid if you're determined to get him...the question is...does it make sense for the team to lock up that kind of salary in a catcher who might not stay there? IMO, it only does if you have immense flexibility overall due to a number of young guys succeeding. The Yanks young catcher Montero makes Flowers look like Johnny Bench. There is no way Montero sticks at catcher. He is still a top 20 prospect though.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 06:24 AM) He's exactly the kind of guy JR would open the checkbook to acquire. I doubt he leaves Minnesota. With their new stadium and revenues, and the Pohlads being perhaps the richest owners in MLB, losing Mauer would be devastating. Exactly, with the new stadium coming in there is no way they'll let Mauer walk. I could actually see Joe being one of the few guys the Sox would be willing to go after and give a 7-10 year deal to but it won't happen.
  11. A few years back the Angels traded Mo Vaughn to the Mets for Kevin Appier. Appier had a big contract as did big fat Mo but the teams just were swapping bad contracts. It happens, maybe not as much as it does in basketball, but that is because you don't have a cap, imo.
  12. Tough loss but it was nice to see the offense put up a ton of really good at bats all series and today they stranded a few but still, got quite a few runs given the pitcher who was on the mound. Buehrle just didn't have it.
  13. WOO WOOO WOO WOOO...I just orgasmed....four times.
  14. Hahah, its totally our site that started it.
  15. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) What's your take on his future position? 3B ? 2B? SS? Alexei is the shortstop until he's traded so I'm going to say 3B. I say that because I ultimately feel that Viciedo ends up in LF or 1B and I think that is the reason Brandon Allen was ultimately exendable.
  16. He's ridiculous. The talk around baseball circles is that most people believe that Gordon will add muscle over the next few years and turn into a 30 HR guy with ridiculous double numbers. He has a shot to be the premiere 3B in the league. He isn't going to hit 40 or 50 hr's but he's going to do everything really really well.
  17. Assumptions like that happen when people don't realize adjustment periods are necessary. Getz will never make the hallf of fame and will probably never be an all star but he has the ability to be a very good baseball player and a very very valuable asset to a good offensive club (he'll make a great 9 hitter who has the ability to hit for average, draw walks, bunt, handle the bat, steal bases, and play average to slightly above average defense). Yea, I like Getz a lot. Than again Getz was one of hte few guys in the Sox system that I was saying nice things about the past couple years.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) I think its because the White Sox have already figured they are going to lose before the game starts. I think that magnifies things and it is why they play even worse there. In general they will struggle in domes (and it is why I hope Tampa doesn't make it) but as a whole they play even worse in the Twinkie dome because of the mental aspect.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) Baseball is wacky. We are owning the Yankees (albeit at home). We can't do squat with the Twins. The Yankees routinely bombard the Twins. Go Sox! Finish this one off and don't play the Sunday lineup tomorrow. The Twins own us in the dome. It is because we don't play the style of baseball condusive to success on that sort of surface. The Sox have played very well thus far against the better teams in baseball and it is why I believe the SOx will win the world series if they make the playoffs (that and our rotation).
  20. I want to see Quentin crush it into the RF bleachers. A nice OPPO HR combined with what he's been doing the past couple games would be awesome.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) And I’d point out the statistical aberration thing. Talking Swisher is like talking politics. You’re never going to change the other guys mind. Agreed, you have the stat guys and the more old school baseball guys. I side with the baseball guys and I'll never agree with the other side. My eyes don't lie, he stinks. The fact that he was a fan of the powdered sugar is just one of the many reasons I think he's a f***ing loser.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) I read where Kotsay was shocked the Sox picked him up. He thought he was done. The Sox like him because he can come off the bench and give real good at bats. I think he'll be a pretty valuable high character bench player. If only he could still play CF defense like he used to. I'm biased though, Kotsay is a Fullerton alum just like me so I'll always love him
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) I bet he moves down in the order when Alexi comes back. I think Becks will stay in the 2 spot but I might be wrong.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Swisher's OBP this year is .367, Pods's is .354. That agrees with your point, but then I can point out Swisher's .332 OBP last year. Or the fact that he was a loser in the clubhouse and can't hit for any sort of average.
  25. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) One thing Swisher hasn't improved on, is hitting in the clutch. He has a BA/RISP of .219 and a clutch factor of -4.0. But this season, he's hitting far less line drives and more flyballs, and that's translating into more power at the new Yankee Stadium. I still think though, if he ever wants to get back to where he was rated a few seasons ago, that average of his needs to get back to around the .270-.280 mark, and I don't know whether he's capable of that anymore. It is because he's not a good hitter, period.
