  1. Gorgo is a Sox fan. I remember reading something about it when he faced us a year or two ago in interleague play.
  2. QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) extension window before trade? He also has the Javy V clause where he can demand a trade right away or become a FA in March. Clearly you'd have to make sure that he's open to coming to Chicago but Halladay doesn't strike me as a complainer and even if you did have to trade him you would be able to get a lot of value for him or should. And if he walks a year from now, you will expect to get 2 picks as compensation.
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) The one thing I'm not too fond of with the Halladay situation is you only have him for a season and a half. He is going to test the free agent market after 2010. Thats why I really liked the Peavy deal at the time, and the same with Dan Haren. The window for this team isn't just next year, it should be for the next few. I agree, but older pitchers might be more willing to sign 3 year extensions in the off-season, which ultimately would give you 4 more years and in this current climate it might make a lot of sense to use Contreras money on Roy or at least see what you can do. I'm not saying you make the offer now, but say you make the playoffs and than go on a post-season run I think you could make a very good pitch to keep him here. He stayed in Toronto a long time and I think being part of a team that contends every year would be quite fun for him.
  4. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) He is already 28 though. I don't think he will get much better than he is now. I find Aaron Poreda somewhat expendable too, considering Dan Hudson and Dexter Carter are looking like studs. The only person I am hesitant on giving up is Clayton. He has good stuff and has pitched pretty well the past couple games, but we would be getting Doc frickin Halladay. I would be all for this trade. I think Clayton and Alexei are really what make this a special deal. They are young, inexpensive players that are playing pretty key roles on a central contending team and both have upside. They clearly are the top two pieces with Poreda being a very good 3rd piece and the 4th pieces being solid throw-in's that have some upside.
  5. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) I think that would be a fair trade but I don't do it. It opens up too many holes. We don't know if Becks can play short. We have no 3b if hes moved. I don't think having Nix and Getz full time in the lineup helps. Our offense is struggling and Carlos may not be long for the lineup. As much as I really want Roy, I don't think its smart to trade Alexi. If the Sox didn't run OC out of town we could have probably picked him up for pretty cheap from Oakland. But I think I take my chances because Roy doesn't just help the Sox this season but next, when more salary falls of the books. Plus this trade still leaves you with Viciedo, Flowers, Danks, Hudson, Carter, Mitchell which is still a very legitimate top 6.
  6. Obviously there is the potential to make it a greater deal involving Rolen but to me the key ingredient is Halladay and if your serious you work a deal out for him and than maybe do a give or take on anything else. I also believe this is a good starting point and should be the type of offer that gets the two teams talking relatively exclusively. It is a great package when you consider the readiness of the players involved and the potential upside. Maybe a Dex Carter or Hudson ultimately replaces Shelby/Fields. Or maybe the Jays prefer just one of Poreda/Richard and would want a Tyler Flowers instead. Either way its the type of deal that says hey JP, I'm f***ing serious, now lets work the small things out and make Roy a White Sox.
  7. Still no word on what they are getting back. Gorgo is going too.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) I don't think anyone is trading for Alexei until we know more about his injury. He's still a huge chip. A team wouldn't not trade for him if it is a sprained ankle. Everything coming out of the Sox camp is that he's day to day.
  9. This might end the Fields/Pie speculation cause Bell is a corner infielder. Orioles could still plug Fields into 1st though, depending on what they think of him or might just feel that from a pure value standpoint the deal makes sense (since Pie isn't going to get starters AB's behind Adam Jones).
  10. What do you guys think. Do the Jays bite? Would you do it?
  11. Kenny: Now is the Time to Acquire Roy Halladay By Jason Gage SoxNet The trade deadline ~24 hours away and the Sox have now lost 5 of 6 since Buehrle's perfect game and now find themselves 3 games back and in need of a spark. Could Roy Halladay be that spark?Full Article
  12. Keith Law was on today and said he'd be surprised if he got traded and in his opinion anyone that traded him should be doing it because he puts you in the playoffs, not because he gives you a better shot at the World Series (ie, don't do what the Angels did for Tex because Tex was acquired solely to help them in the post-season). Basically put, Law's stance is that the only way it makes sense to give up a ton is if it puts your team into the playoffs because at that point everything is a crap-shoot. So if you agree with him, than Halladay would make a lot of sense for the White Sox because his addition might be the difference maker. I reiterate that the price is still too steap. If we can build the package around Alexei Ramirez, Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda than I'd dance though and I really do think that is a really fair package or at least starting point (Jays aren't looking for fair though).
  13. I heard Keith law on the radio today and he figured the Dodgers would get him and said it would have to be Bell plus one. Sure enough he was right. Solid move for the Dodgers as they really needed help in there pen.
  14. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) Unfortunately, I tend to agree with this. His numbers remind me too much of the BA's and Sweeney's of the world. That isn't a bad thing, the question is what there swings are like. Plenty of guys have put up BA and Sweeney's minor league numbers and went on to great success. In fact, both Sweeney and Anderson were at one time guys that could have been the centerpiece of a big trade. So if Danks gets to the point where he has that sort of value I say heck yes. Still, he needs a full year in Bham but I've always heard that the Sox are really high on him and that Buddy Bell believes he's near ML ready.
  15. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) I think there is significant doubt that Danks will be the CF of the future. I think this board is way too high on him and he has a lot to prove as to whether he would be a good enough hitter to be a full time player. He could very well end up being Brian Anderson part deux. Welcome aboard. I think Danks has all the defensive ability and offensively he's hit. He definitely strikes out more than you like and that might be his issue going forward which hinders him from hitting at the big league level. I feel that most outsiders underrate Danks because he didn't hit for the power everyone expected him to at Texas. With that said Mitchell is a phenomenal athlete and there is no reason he shouldn't also be getting groomed for CF.
  16. No way it is Alonso for Rolen straight up. And if so I really really really think the Sox need to consider moving Dye, Thome, and maybe even Alexei.
  17. Apparently the Angels GM said that the Halladay to the Angels was 50/50. Thats what I heard on the radio at least.
  18. Guys this isn't true. Come on, common sense tells us it isn't true. I know Alderson just went for Sanchez but Sanchez is a superior player at this point than Rolen. They play different positions and Rolen clearly has the better career but Sanchez has more good years left. And if teams are really giving up these type of prospects right now, well than lets sell Jermaine Dye for Yonder Alonso and pronto.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) What was Alexei trying to do in the first place? What an idiotic slide. If he just did a normal take out slide, he would have never got injured. Also, it seemed to me he overexaggerated his injury. Sure, it hurts, but he spent a good minute or two just rolling around on the turf. Does anyone else get the feeling he has vaginitis? He doesn't like to stay in 2B hard when he is turning DP's, he doesn't do good take out slides, everytime he gets some chin music he hits to deck and lies there for a minute, he always covers his head on pickoff throws to first, he seemed to get his feelings hurt when AJ called him out, etc. He's coming close to Alex Rios territory. His spikes got caught. That's why it looked awkward. Stop blaming Alexi for his injury or calling it over-exaggerated. He got hurt, the replays show it too.
  20. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Hmm... it's too bad Brian Anderson wasn't a top-flight defensive outfielder, otherwise we could have just filled that need internally... Brian wanted out. He made it clear that he didn't want to be here and wanted a chance to go elsewhere. He had been voicing that internally for a long time.

  22. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) Isn't he pretty much another Jerry Owens?? Owens never showed the power potential Pie has. Pie is just 24 years old so it isn't a bad idea. I still think a bigger deal happens and the Sox add Pie as the defensive outfielder (with the upside of developing into a starter) and George Sherrill.
  23. White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie By Jason Gage Bruce Levine is reporting that Ken Williams is seeking a top-flight defensive outfielder for the pennant race and that one of those options is former Cubs phenom Felix Pie. Evidently the Sox have been scouting Pie for over six weeks and the Tribune's Mark Gonzalez is further substantiating the rumor, indicating on Wednesday, that the White Sox, will try to trade recently demoted infielder Josh Fields for Pie.
