  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Why does it matter if he has the range to get to a ball in the hole only to botch it or throw it away? I haven't seen him have this issue at 2B. The guy is no doubt a plus defensive 2nd baseman.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) Really? The Nats put the cuban-style out clause in there? Is that even allowed for players that are drafted? Oh I'm not sure. How does it work when a player signs a 4 year major league contract? I assume his service time starts immediately since it is a major league contract? I guess he'd still be eligible for arbitration and the standard 6 years, its just that his clock starts immediately? I'm not sure so I'm asking.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) What does the length of time matter, the real money is the bonus: He only got a $7.5 mil bonus, I would have expected 10mil bonus easily and another 10mil in contract. In fact the way that the contract is structured he most likely will end up as arb eligible the first year that this contract is done, or even worse if he stays in minors for 2 years hed be playing for league minimum in 2013. I assume he'll become a FA after that 4 years though, which would be big.
  4. QUOTE (soxrock0109 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) We need to win tonight because i'm not sure if we will be able to win with Jose pitching tomarrow... i'l take 6 innings from Garcia and we probably will have to score around 6 runs... big game tonight because after this homestand our schedule is brudle. GO SOX! take 2 out of 3 at the least. Welcome aboard!!!
  5. I love me some DirectTV scheduler. Just got the MLB look-ins set to record.
  6. How did he look? What was the velocity, etc?
  7. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) They are wrong - this won't be his last start in the minors per Kenny from last week. Hypothetically he could be ready. After this start he should have the stamina to throw 80-90 pitches which is enough to do it at the major league stage. The thing is I figured the Sox wanted to be more careful but if Peavy was down for it you could make the case that the only real risk you have in him making his next start at the major league level (as opposed to the minor league level) is that he might not be ready and would get shelled (but is that really much of a risk since we already know the alternative will get shelled). Risky, maybe, but not from the sake of health. If he's healthy enough to pitch in Charlotte, he's healthy enough to pitch in Chicago. He just might not be ready to get big leaguers out, but I think a close Peavy is a lot better than current Contreras.
  8. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Good. Linebrink's been nothing short of awful this year. I'm sorry that we have to carry his albatross of a contract for the next two seasons. The thing is, he's healthy. He just needs to get some confidence in his off-speed stuff to keep hitters honest. He's throwing 94-95 consistently of late but guys are just sitting on it. Command and a secondary pitch is the key. Linebrink finds that and the Sox are golden.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) You guys are operating under feeling. You feel like Chris Getz can make these improvements. The fact is throughout his professional career, he hasn’t. Look at the numbers. Generally, People don’t learn better plate discipline at the major league level. Chris Getz is who Chris Getz is. He’ll hit you .275 and OPS around .700. what’s at question is: do you want this guy on the roster over a guy who will walk more, hit more homers, and save about ten more runs than him on defense? The only clear advantage for Getz is that’ll he’ll steal you about 15 more bases than Nix. You mean the Chris Getz who put up a .382 OBP in 2007 (Bham @ 23 years old), and .366 OBP (Charlotte @24). Those are both above average minor league OBP's and in those years he hit .299 and .302 respectively with a significant power increase (3 hr's vs 11). He's the type of guy that I expect to actually hold up pretty well. It's also the same Chris Getz who put up a post ASB .296 AVG,.359 OBP, .767 OPS. All pretty damn solid for a 2nd baseman.
  10. Gonzalez is also reporting that.
  11. Cowley is reporting that Linebrink has been demoted from the 8th inning set-up role.
  12. Interesting. I figured he still had another start left. Maybe he'll go to AA or somewhere else, but that doesn't make much sense to me. I wonder if MLB network knows something we don't or if they are just wrong.
  13. The timing of this move is interesting and I have no idea how serious Wise injury is. But the speculator in me wonders whether this has more to do with roster management. The Sox needed to send someone down to make room for Garcia and Lillibridge would have been the guy, but by placing Wise on the DL they have potentially opened up the ability for both Lillibridge and Wise to be available for the post-season roster (even though only one might be on the active major league roster come September 1st). However, for Lillibridge to be available, the Sox would have to have him on the roster (or DL) on Sept 1st.
  14. Dwayne Wise Placed on Disabled List By Jason Gage SoxNet.net Joe Cowley is reporting that Dwayne Wise will be placed on the 15 day disabled list with a shoulder injury. No word on when/how the injury occured, but tonight's starter, Freddy Garcia, will replace Wise on the active roster.
  15. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) C.J. Retherford will be better than both of them. Maybe Retherford turns into our version of Howie Kendrick. Howie wasn't a very highly touted amateur but all he did in the minors was hit and hit and hit until he became widely considered an elite prospect. Retherford is clearly not at the level Kendrick is, but hopefully he turns into one of those guys that just hits at an elite level.
  16. Great piece Ozzie Ball. I don't agree with it, cause I like Getz and project him to be a .290/.355 or so player with great speed and intangibles at the bottom of the order but I think you've made a ton of valid points and made me warm to the idea of Nix and I am definitely intrigued to see how Nix handles being the everyday starter while Getz is on the DL. There is no doubt that Nix has been having good at bats and if he can start hitting some more singles to right field we might see that average climb up and him become a very valuable everyday player.
  17. Why Chris Getz Injury is Good for the Team By Seven Costanza SoxNet You never like to see a player get injured, but when a player getting injured allows a much better player to step in and play every day surely it's a good thing? Not according to the majority of White Sox fans. Firstly, Chris Getz is not all that. He's not a great player. He's not even a good player. I hear lots of people throwing the term "future lead-off hitter" around when discussing Getz, but ideally you want a...Remainder of the Article
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) But KW said 2-3 times that Viciedo's contract was essentially, long-term replacing the sunk costs for Swisher's long-term deal. That's pretty close. That was different though cause we are talking about a major league contract in a sense. It wasn't related to the dollars put aside for the draft and minor league scouting, imo. Just like Alexei was major league money. But I too can't imagine the pools of money being completely unrelated and I figured when the Sox took all that money in, it meant that they wouldn't spend a ton on there draft picks that hadn't yet signed. I personally think that bringing in these type of contracts means you need to pay even more for your draft picks because when you have highly paid players on your roster (and no additional room to add payroll) the impact of a cheap minor leaguer with ability is even greater, imo. Its why we won't see Flowers, Danks, Hudson, or Beckham traded anytime soon. Probably not Viciedo either. They are part of the new core.
  19. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) I think the packers should worry more about the Lions instead of the Vikings or Bears. 3rd place sounds about right for the Pack. The Packers aren't much different than the Bears. Packers have the better offense (rodgers is very good, I like Cutler more, but Rodgers has better receivers around him so I'd give the nod to the Packers offense). Defensively the Packers have talent but are in a new scheme so they'll have trouble adjusting and the Bears defense quite frankly sucks and until they prove it doesn't suck on the regular field I will say that. If someone wants to refute it, show me the stats cause all of the stats say that the Bears D has been pretty piss poor since the Super Bowl season. Vikings are the hands down favorite now. Fewest weaknesses. Bears have potential (if the Defense pans out and Cutler is able to get enough out of his Wr's, who f***ing suck). Packers have potential as well. NFC North is a much improved division though.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) The reason why Farve is a bad fit for the Vikings is because he has never been known for making good decisions and keeping the ball safe. If I was the Vikings Id rather have a QB who is going to be a great game manager and not force throws, than a QB who is going to try and make things happen. He did a pretty good job of that two years ago when he was in a new offense. Put up prolific numbers and really did a great job. He'll turn it over from time to time but he makes the Vikes so much better.
  21. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:13 AM) Getz brings the speed, better average, and a possible lead off candidate in the future. Nix brings great defense and decent power. Lillibridge looks pretty funny. Who would you want starting? Getz brings a whole new set of qualities to the field that the Sox don't really have and he put up a pretty good line since the all star break. I like Getz a lot. Nix is a real solid back-up though and he has good at bats but I don't know if he'll ever hit for enough of an average to be an everyday player. I like what Getz brings as a starter and what Nix brings as a back-up.
  22. f***ing Favre and his switching of teams.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) LOL, awesome Ya, I caught that on my own, but what a great slip of the tongue, haha.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) i like how everything you said prior to the bolded comment completely contradicts what you are saying in your final statement, lol Haha, meant to say Vikings. Fixed
  25. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) Best running back in the league, best rush defense in the league, premium pass rusher. Ya, they are a very good football team that had absolute s*** at QB. They now have a pretty damn solid QB who knows how to win.
