QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) I'm on Sprint and have a Palm Pre. What I like about Sprint is that it was ridiculously easy to get a company discount for a company that I don't work for. Also, Best Buy price matches so I was able to print up a $99 walmart.com price and didn't have to deal with any rebates. Another nice thing is that they have that free mobile to mobile to any other network thing now, but I rarely talk on the phone before 7 anyways so I've never come within 200 minutes of going over my minutes... Ya, I love my 23% sprint discount.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) I had Sprint for like 8 years up until about 3 months ago. Sprints prices are pretty good, their coverage was incredible and they had a lot of the top phones. Their customer service was brutal however. I just switched to AT&T just to get the iphone and their reception is such horse s*** its ridiculous. Some people say the iphone on top of AT&T contributes to the poor service but either way its terrible. I drop calls when I am at home on wifi 10 feet away from my router and I get zero reception in the high rise in the city I am working unless I am by a window that faces south. Im pretty sure I am going to switch to t-mobile so I can keep my iphone and drop AT&T. From what I hear they are pretty good and they are very accommodating to setting up people with iphones and picking the best plans. Anyone with T-mobile have any insight to how their reception is? I'm confused....how can Tmobile legally help you with a Iphone since its only on ATT?

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Yay!! Hopefully Iowa fans dont use the injury as an excuse. The guy went down and our next QB played like s***. It happens and unfortunately Iowa lost. But I don't think they lose that game with Stanzi. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Even in that one big year he had with Atlanta he demonstrated his penchant for vastly different pre/post AS break splits. With a .200 point difference in OPS between the 2. Also, success with Atlanta and failure with Pittsburgh doesn't equal success in Chicago. But he'd be playing in a much more offensive friendly park than Turner or PNC. I'm not saying he's going to put up a >900 OPS but I wouldn't be shocked if he put up an .850 or so OPS from the left side of the plate at a fair price and quite frankly that is just fine with me given our rotation.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) He does that every year. He sucks in the first half and puts up big numbers after the all star break. Career: 1st Half: .773 OPS 2nd Half: 909 OPS 2009: 1st Half: .784 OPS 2nd Half: .915 OPS He's been in the league long enough to where you know what you're getting from him and that's a ~.353 wOBA/.840 OPS 1B. I'm also curious as to why a team would trade for a $12M Konerko when they could just sign LaRoche themselves or say Hank Blalock, Russell Branyan, Aubrey Huff or Nick Johnson? You are exactly right. I would say that Konerko has a far more proven track-record than everyone but LaRoche. Konerko is widely regarded as a leader. Essentially Konerko has bigger name recognition and that could play a factor. But people pay for names. There is no question the Angels, Giants, and other teams would intrigued with the possibility of Konerko. He also has put up his numbers in the middle of the order as one of the main run producers of contending teams where as the other guys haven't. Not saying Paulie is 6 or 7M better than them, but I'd say he's better than some of them by close to that margin on a historical stand-point (in the sense that with Paulie, if he's healthy you know what you'll get).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Frankly, I'm glad I'm escaping this state. The state's government is such a mess that it really hurts the rest of the state. And that's not just talking about the tax levels or prop 13 or prop 8 or anything like that, even small stuff like the water issues...that's not an issue of not enough water, it's an issue of no political will to solve it. When this was announced, I literally was like, I need to move. The problem is in this economy it would be a bad time to and I won't lie, it would be really hard to leave the only place I've lived. We have our families here all of our friends (with the exception of the yokals I kick it with from Soxtalk when I'm in Chitown) and I know everything. The fiance will be in her nursing program, but my paycheck would certainly go a lot farther elsewhere (a home as opposed to a townhome that will be tough enough to manage, etc). And our tax rate sucks too. Paying damn near 10% on everything I purchase is pretty ridiculous too.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) Is that counting his numbers for the whole year or just with Atlanta? He was a totally different player in Atlanta from Pittsburgh (which of course makes me wonder how he'll hit anywhere other than Atlanta0 That was his numbers on the whole.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) LaRoche is a pretty mediocre player. He's a .350 wOBA 1B (one of only 5 1B under Konerko in '09) which puts him in the bottom 25% at that position. Basically, if you like a slightly lesser version of what Konerko did last year (accounting for the league switch) except from the left side and with 10% more K's then Adam's your man. At significantly less money. Factor in what he did in Atlanta and potential upside and he could be a bit better. Basically I'm alluding to the fact that you can get solid production out of LaRoche for cheap and he could end up being better than expected (just looking at what he did in Atlanta while playing for a contender).

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) No, they are only concerned with retaining office. And this does not seem like a good way to retain office. But shame on ALL voters in Cally if they re-elect ANY of these boobs. You are giving way too much credit to the majority of the voters in this state. The elected officials here by and large are an embarassment.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) Well that, and the largest recession in like 80 years. All states have had huge cuts in their tax receipts. Its not like California is on an island there. Cali has been hit harder due to how much it relied on property taxes, but they completely mis-managed things here and put themselves in a dire situation. Not to mention the whole spend no matter what policy that forces government to always get bigger. The state makes the airline industry looking like the greatest ran industry in the world.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Governments don't know how to cut back on spending, because that ultimately means they have to lay off all the people they hired on that they didn't really need -- which is equivalent to throwing votes in the opponents basket. Getting reelected is more important than doing the right thing for your state/country. You know what....when the economy gets bad, big business shrinks...you know what, the government needs to shrink. I realize government jobs are supposed to be cake, etc, etc, but at some point in time, you got to cut pay, layoff people, etc. Its just the nature of what happens when revenues drop.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) In theory, California is ultimately saving taxpayers money by not having those same taxpayers paying interest to whomever Cal would borrow from. The difference is the taxpayers (voters) get to see it. If lawmakers borrowed from another source, chances are no one would know, or care. So for transparency in government fans, this is probably a nice touch. Better, why not cut back on spending, which is basically what they are asking some taxpayers to do. They had to go to this alternative because we voted against there stupid ass bond bills cause they were essentially junk bonds that would have had the government paying ridiculous interest rates. On top of that, I'm also sick and tired of a state that can't manage a deficit and gets off budget by billions. Its sad to think that they are like 100000% more accurate this time around and still need a free loan from tax-payers like myself.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) The state of California is about to help itself to an interest free loan, out of its citizens paychecks. Merry Christmas! http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-stat...0,2028140.story I realize its small and I get the money back, but this has put me over the top. I'm so f***ing frustrated with how the state is ran and I'm absolutely appalled at how they can do this with no consequences. The sad thing is most of California's don't know this is even the case. The dumbasses can't manage a budget to save there lives so they pull into our pockets and effectively screw up our budgets. I'm not going to feel the 25-30 bucks a month I lose, but still, what a bunch of bulls***. Its sickening and I'm scared at the precedent that was set.

Wouldn't Marlon Byrd and say a LaRoche be a relatively realistic off-season regarding our lineup. We'd have a lineup lacking a great offensive player (Beckham might turn into one as early as next year and Quentin will hopefully be one again next year) but a lot of quality players. Plus we'd have a ton of flexibility and pretty good defense (Byrd would be a very solid RF and could play CF in a pinch). The club could than focus on Jenks/Konerko and resigning our young players to some contracts. And if we move a KOnerko we'd have a hell of a lot of flexibility for his replacement.
-
I don't think he'll get too big of a contract and could be a great value. He's got nice power, hits from the left side, and seems to be coming into his own. Even if we don't move Paulie I think he'd be a nice value pick-up as a DH and that his lefty bat would help stabilize the lineup.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) I can see us taking a flyer on Vlad if his price isn't too high. He would be an under the radar move since all eyes will be on Holliday. I know he's a free swinger, but the Sox have been trying to get contact hitters with patience for like 5 years and it never actually happens. Just my own guess though. Vladdy would be a nice DH candidate if we found a left handed hitting outfielder.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 06:06 AM) And a stainless toilet seat? Damn that'd be cold. That is the very reason I'd go padded. Nothing worse than sitting on a cold toilet seat in the AM. That said I have the standard plastic and it works just fine.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) Me thinks that the people who are complaining about Verizon haven't had it in at least the past 2 years. I've been with every major network except for US Cellular and Verizon has the 2nd best network, but best overall service(again, not including US Cellular who I heard are very good, but don't have the greatest phone selection). AT&T has a good feature with rollover minutes, but besides the iPhone, I rather have T-Mobile. T-Mobile, recently has been getting a lot of bad reviews in the media for good reason since they had the sidekick blackout and then this past tuesday's blackout, but they're the better decent cheap option for college students IMO unless you really really want an iPhone. Verizon & Sprint to me are the big boys though. What I don't like about Sprint is that your bill is never the same from month to month and roaming charges are a pain, but in the 2nd year that I had them, I never lost a call nor was I never able to gain internet access. They also can't cut you a break. Verizon has a great selection of phones and customer service is great. They're willing to hear you out and understand. The one downfall with Verizon is that they cripple their phones with their own software. With the Storm though, I haven't seen much of that. Verizon and Sprint are the two best services I've ever had. Nothing tops Verizon's coverage, imo. Spring is close but Sprint's pricing is far superior as they've been getting absolutely blitzed by Verizon/ATT due to them not having that show-stopper phone. Hopefully that will change, but I've been very happy with my change to Sprint.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) I don't think that Danks is ready yet offensively and needs at least half a season in AA/AAA. IMO, the Sox need to sign a legit RF to fill one of the holes in the lineup and then sign a cheap, high-upside guy for the DH spot towards the end of the offseason. If the second guy doesn't work out, Danks might be ready for a mid-summer call-up. Then you shift Carlos to DH and hopefully would have spectacular defense at all 3 spots. I just don't think counting on Danks at the beginning of the season makes sense. What do you think of LaRoche?
-
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) What free agent options are out there? Boston just picked up Hermida. Any other trade options? We clearly don't have any outfielders coming up from AAA. Well, Kenny has talked up Jordan Danks.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) ^^^^^^ There are a ton of guys out there as potential DH's: Matsui/Damon/Nick Johnson/Delgado (missed most of this year and his injury...a hip, could ruin his career, but a year ago he hit 38Hr's)/Troy Glaus (missed almost the entire year with shoulder surgery)/Adam LaRoche. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I buy the idea of going after a guy like LaRoche, who had a pretty damn solid season and did great with Atlanta this year. I can't imagine LaRoche costing a ton and he's not a significant downgrade from Paulie. If you can move Paulie you can really free up the funds to make a move for one above average offensive player and than sign LaRoche and another guy for 1st/DH. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) Wow, JorDanks is in the mix for the big club? Wow. Our OF defense would be alot better with him in CF and Rios in RF. Im not so sure about having him lead off though. You can't have him leadoff. That would be a disaster this early in his career. Defensively though, that would be a great outfield. Offensively, not so much, so you'd have to make up for it with a really good DH. We'd also need big years from our catcher, 1st baseman, 3B, etc.

QUOTE (SockMe @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Mauer, Morneau, Gomez in order Kubel? Span? Cuddyer? And I'm just going to assume you aren't counting pitchers.
