QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Who "deserves" having their taxes raised, and why to 91%? What happens when those people decide to say "f*** it" and leave the country/ stop producing? Oh, you mean like corporations already do? Hmmmmmmmmm.

Mark to market works, most of the time. The problem now is, you have undervalued markets that is forcing writedowns that go too far. I could explain in a lot more detail, but that's the main point. I spent a lot of time reading the FASB on this and there are so many more complexities involved then just what the article addresses above.

That really does suck. It's really disappointing when projects like this go bad... not only from the money standpoint, but anything we can learn would be helpful.
-
The government just needs to own all the houses. It's the only thing that's big enough to stop this potentially dangerous deflationary style we're working toward. In that way, we can be sure that everyone is on "equal footing". "Spread the wealth!"

A 93-year-old man froze to death inside his home

Health insurance is not a "right"... but that's yet another argument entirely. And neither is electricity, really. -
Just as long as our government controls everything, the money doesn't mean anything.

Oh no, Keynesian is the only way to go. The government is the only thing big enough to save us to keep us from going into a deflationary cycle we can't get out of. Is that right, Balta?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) Come on, I read weather.com... That makes me a meterologist! Oh the ironies. I think an economy blog makes me an economist.

I still say (and I'm beginning to think that this isn't Kaperbole anymore) Balta, you should just give me 50% of your paycheck since you're all against free markets. If you're all into this "spreading the wealth", just give me your check because I'm certainly in the "needy" group now. Seeing as how you hate the system, you just need to comform to what I'm proposing.

Raise taxes. There's no other way.

How many times can he say that we need to stop the insanity? If that's true, he needs to just STFU and never speak again.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) You know, if I tried posting in Kaperbole for a week, I feel like I'd wind up suspended... Damn! My plot is foiled! (Evil Grin).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) Yeah well Al Gore is a hypocrite and that's all that matters. End of discussion. Yes! You agree with me! (re: the Goracle). On the other subject, of course, there's global warming... but that doesn't mean that it's all man made...
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) It will probably get to that too. There is nothing stopping the economic disaster at this point, I just hope it stops before everybody has to reside in caves and live off the land. That's not possible either because global warming is going to burn up our crops. We're just a moneyless, hopeless society.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) I need a compass to find my way out of this conversation. Of course by mentioning Reagan, all the squares came out. And so does Clinton's angle. Eww.

QUOTE (Steff @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) They counted on, and got, and spent the $$ from the '05 run. As they do every year the Sox put all "green" back into the club. I don't think so, but this maybe the first year they run red and don't put anything back into the '10 season. It's been a long time since that's happened. As for businesses, from what I have heard all the suites that were sold last year are still sold this year. Those are the real cash cows of the park. The first part is absolutely true. And, I'm not sure how much money they got from 2008 playoffs... probably not that much? So they may "lose" on that part. I do think 2010, if things don't turn around, could be super ugly for all sports franchises, not just the Sox. 2009's money is already spent.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) we can all have cool barcodes on us and tracking microchips. It's coming. I'm not laughing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) I was offended as soon as I saw your angle. TMI TMI TMI... Could you really see Tex's angle? I hope not.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) On so many levels. It actually disincentivizes fuel efficiency, puts a huge amount of government control over behavior, is biased to heavily effect rural areas where incomes are lower already, will invite all variety of fraud, effectively reduces the number of jobs people can realistically work at a time when jobs are scarce already... ugh. What an awful, awful idea. Yea... pretty much the people that drive, need to drive right now. This is the worst idea I have seen in a while, stimulus package included.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) Love the sig Kap. Me too. It's fitting, sort of. It's Kaperbole in and of itself.

This has turned into a pretty calculated thread. *rimshot*

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) lol, not really. I just wish people like Keyes could at least separate the two things in their mind. It really isn't that difficult a concept. Next up, actually knowing what socialism is. That one's a little more to ask for. Awww, rats. Keyes is a flaming idiot. There's no denying that.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) I love it when people don't know the difference between Communism and socialism. So you just admitted Obama is a socialist? Yes!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) I just biked past a 25 foot inflatable rat. Was it George W. Bush?
