  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) If you want to write it out, I'd be anxious to read it. Honestly, most of you would be bored to tears. I will write something up probably on Wednesday... (maybe tomorrow). I need to get my 401K/2=201K switched over to an IRA so I can tap it for COBRA without incurring a penalty tomorrow. Gosh only knows how long that will take to get all sorted out with my bank. And I need to go to my old MBA univeristy to demand that I get hooked up at the place I did consulting for during the program. They are hiring like mad and I need to get out there. Tuesday have two different appointments (not interviews, I wish I were that lucky).
  2. Question for those of you playing at home: Do you fully understand the mark-to-market accounting rules? Hint: The blogs and general commentary out there get it wrong.
  3. Suspending mark to market only works if you suspend the idiots who set the "market" in the first place. That is where this whole thing blew up.
  4. There's a bigger reason for this signing (Buffalo)... but I can't say it. It's interesting for a number of reasons. The main one is asses in the seats in that MARKET. That's it. I know nothing else.

  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) I have an interesting perspective on this and especially that last statement. As many of you know, I work for a church and school... a very conservative church and school. embryonic stem cell research is constantly demonized and spoken out against often from the pulpit (by often, i mean a few times a year). They constantly say that adult stem cells are better and embryonic stem research is the murder of innocent life... we believe life starts at conception (or artificial fertilization) For the longest time. I too was against embryonic stem cell research.... until i did a little digging. I got to thinking: "what is our stance on artificial insemination?" Because, if we are against embryonic stem cell research, then we clearly must be against artificial insemination because often the "leftovers" are stored until they degrade or thrown out. So, clearly that is the murder of innocent life. So, i did a little digging into what our church body stands for with regards to artificial insemination. Much to my surprise... we are in favor of it! But of course they warn about the "leftovers" and how they should be cared. So my thought was, if we are going to just let them die, shouldn't they be put to good use? People often donate their body to science after they die, or they take experimental drugs if they have little chance to live. How is this different? Every day, I get close and closer to saying it's ok. I wouldnt object. In general, that's my stance too. I think that embryonic stem cell research allows certain types of cells to be researched that are not present at a full term baby forward. There's so much we don't know. As I said, where DO have a problem with it is if humans just make these embryos for testing purposes... I have a HUGE problem with that. If the government is going to fund that, I have serious issues.
  7. Jumps in to say as one who doesn't like Obama policy: This is one I agree with Obama as well - ONLY if the research is being done in such a way that the embryos were not going to be used anyway (in other words, these embryos aren't "harvested" for research - and I think most people would agree with that). There are so many stem cell research projects that could overall boost health care.
  8. I would say I'll be there, but I have to have a job by then. If I don't, I'll be living on the streets somewhere, and I don't think I'm even kidding.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) I read somewhere that European cruises are ridiculously cheap because of the terrible economy. Might want to try a Mediterranean cruise and check out Italy, Greece, etc. That's true. They are doing Europe tickets out of Chicago for $400 ROUND TRIP right now. It's insane.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) Fort Worth is pretty cool but I dont know if you are into US history being an Aussie and all. What?
  12. Just in case you people don't get it (which obviously most don't because of the responses) it's called mocking the people who made him the "head of the GOP". He's not serious, but he is at the same time... if the president takes him up on it (which is obvious he won't). Mex, lay off the personal shots. I don't care for Limbaugh, either, but that stuff's over the top.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 08:01 AM) Its time for new bifocals. Anyways, a loose ball foul 90 feet from the basket is a s***ty way to lose a double overtime sectional basketball game. That is all. I was listening to you all. I agree.
  14. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) I hear you, I'm not a suck up and I will not sacrifice who I AM for anything. A suck up is one thing, but throwing people under the bus is another thing. If I know you're struggling, or falling behind on deadlines I woudn't call you out on it in front of the boss. Another trend is people working 80 hours a week when it's not neccesary. The sad part is, bosses who fall for it and don't see right through it. Our 'employee of the year' goes into hyper speed when the big wigs are around, as soon as they leave, she could give one less of a s***. Yea, I worked 80 hours a week to be told that I was a moron and I should only have to work 60 because the way I was doing things was f***ed up. Yea, but don't EVER mention the fact that management changed everything every hour because they didn't know what the f*** they were doing... And then I got thrown under the bus about 4 times because people weren't doing their s*** which made me late because I was at the end of the process. "Anticipate" is what I was told, and my response was why don't you manage the f***ing process, Mr. Manager, since YOU are the manager (and had to tell me several times that he was in charge, I wasn't), instead of allowing the process manage you... I just told you where the f***ing constraint is, now go fix it, dickhead. Oh well. I could say my "racist" thing (a certain European arrogant country = my boss), but I won't. Anyway, I digress. My point is, you have to just roll with the assholes and play with the pigs right now because it's better then unemployment.
  15. /returns from hiatus to make a point Even a very small, poorly planned attack would have HUGE psychological impacts right now. However, it could also backfire because people would finally start paying attention to something else but what they are losing every day. /leaves again

  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) In fact, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Add in the fact that your 52 year old starter apparently found the fountain of youth in Florida, and it seems even nicer.

  20. So it's ok? I had to re-wire all of my inside phone wires when we added a room. That was fun...
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Yes I had that happening and all it was was (good english, I know) the DSL and the phone line were plugged in the wrong place on the filter. Check that.
  22. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) The economic picture and the layoffs at my job have people acting completely out of their minds. When the owner comes around everyone turns into a cut throat, kiss ass, performance monkey. Why not just carry a sign that reads: "I'm the best at everthing, everyone else here sux, please don't lay me off". People have no shame. Yea, well from personal experience, if you do NOT do that, you get s***canned because you're "not a team player". Being a suckup right now is better then unemployment. Trust me. Part of my biggest problem is I am NEVER a suck up but I better learn how to be one really f***ing quick or I'm going to lose everything, and that's not a joke.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:24 AM) Interesting. I called comcast to ask them yesterday, and they did say I could buy one, though they said through Motorola's website (which doesn't have any for sale, instead redirecting you to your service provider.) The person I talked to said that I could buy one and hook it up. I wonder if I just talked to someone who has no idea what they are talking about??? Having worked for both, you CAN buy one, but then they've gotten to the point where you have to have the cable card anyway to get the channels. It's a racket.
  24. Holy s***. I swear I was just thinking about him yesterday because Ron Chapman, who is a long long long time DJ from Dallas, filled in for him, and I thought to myself, man Mr. Harvey is getting up there, and he will have one of the most biggest funerals when he goes. That was my exact thought and then to see this, I think I killed the guy...
