  1. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) U.S. Treasury announces special series of bill auctions to expand the Fed's balance sheet. Yea. Let's print some more money!
  2. If we can pick up that .5 and have 2 games up going in to MN, I'd feel better.
  3. I think you're stretching, Alpha. Either candidate will be a "transformative" moment.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) I've seen more substance on the back of a seat at the adult theater. Oh, that's what that pink mass of bubble gum is. Wow.
  5. A lot of theirs is "synergy" after the EDS buyout, but still... there's still a lot of belt tightening happening.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) He's just bitter. No, the man has no substance. But neither does McCain. But they both have more substance then GWB, who really has no substance.
  7. HP just announced 24,700 layoffs. Ouch.
  8. Sounds like there's a rate cut coming, eh? That's a bad, bad thing if it is.
  9. AHB, congrats! It's definitely a life-changer.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Lately, when I hear Republicans I think Kap, SS, etc or when I hear Democrats I think Balta, Jim, Rex and it really puts things in perspective. If it doesn't fit for those guys, then I reject it. I am guessing that most people rejected the Obama waffle mix and probably walked by with some dismay. I believe if Kap was there he would have smirked the I'm going to hell smirk, then voiced some complaint. I know you were sorta kidding, but seriously, no way. I think this stuff has no place whatsoever in the election. In fact, I find it extremely distasteful, stupid, and just flat out wrong and totally comdemn what these people think as a "joke".
  11. But there's absolutely no media bias. Pllllllueaaaase.
  12. Looking out the window here at work, it's just POURING! Oh wait, you're in Chicago, not Dallas. Tropical Storm Ike's here. You can't even see outside hardly.
  13. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) What the heck, why don't you tell us what you think of Governor Palin then so nobody has to guess. The fact that adding this unknown but seemingly unqualified person to the GOP ticket has much of the nation so unquestioning and revved up for McCainCo. confirms many of my worst fears about the critical thinking skills of many of my fellow Americans. The fact that honest, earnest examination and reporting of her record in elected office to contrast against the McCainCo version of her record is chalked up entirely as "Gotcha politics" is similarly disheartening. I don't really assume you are much of a Governor Palin fan. But she set the tone for the last 8 weeks of the campaign with the Lipstick-Pitbull acceptance speech, and for the most part ObamaCo has been less gloves-off than they could have been since then. I agree with everybody that it would be a critical mistake for ObamaCo to allow this election become about Governor Palin. But I think all current press inquiries into her past public record are entirely legitimate. reasonable and necessary in order to determine if the real Sarah Palin even remotely resembles the newly-minted mythological Sarah Palin the country has gone gaga over. Ok... your last paragraph, bingo. But yet, it's sort of a witch hunt - I liken it much to RSO's first year or so. The problem is, Sarah Palin can make it 8 weeks on coattails of nothingness. That's part of the brilliancy of the pick, yet, honestly, I'm very troubled by it. John McCain KNEW that it was going to take all the spotlight off of RSO, and rightly or wrongly, it's working. Honestly, I'm VERY troubled by Sarah Palin. I don't like her style, I don't like her attitude, I was very put off by her speech, unlike every GOP'er so it seems... But I am getting nauseated at the media coverage and the Huffington Post references 5 times a day about what a hypocrite Sarah Palin is. GMAFB, so is RSO, but since he's old news, it all gets swept under the rug. I have no idea what to think about all of this. If I was going to vote for McCain, now it's turned me off even more with this pick becase much like you're all saying, it was a circus spotlight pick. But I still personally think RSO is much worse then McCain and even Palin, if only for policy. But that's just me saying I don't want the government in all my business like RSO wants to do. Can you see that I'm quite conflicted, and probably even more so now?
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) What do you expect to happen when one candidate selects someone who nobody knows diddly squat about? QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) Like the McCain Campaign, maybe he expects Governor Palin to be treated with deference, because anything else is obviously just blatant sexism. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) It's the POW/Sexism Defense Shield. Seems to be weakening a bit, but still holding strong. Ok, whatever. Your thoughts here are a joke. Seriously. None of you know what I think of Sarah Palin, yet you want to label me. I think it's ridiculous that all I see from the left is this "gotcha" crap - and yes, you see it from the blowhards like Hannity, etc. but I think they are just as ridiculous. That's all you want to do is tear down and mock everything. Have a day. Carry on, because it's what makes everything so great about this election. Not.
  15. Galveston and Houston got frickin' nailed. So did Port Arthur/Beaumont. There's a lot of skyskrapers in Houston with glass blown out. So here, right now, the winds are blowing about 30 mph steady, we're getting some squally rain, but the center's still coming this way but we're really on the fringe of the worst. So all in all, we're not in bad shape.
  16. If the media would spend as much time on the issues instead of digging up s*** about Sarah Palin just to play "GOTCHA!!!" on every f***ing word she says, we might have a decent election. But no. We have to be stupid about this whole thing. Oh, I know I know, you have to discredit everything because they're all LIARS!!! Please. So's RSO. It's beyond ridiculous.
  17. Dude, Galveston is screwed. It's 200 miles offshore and it's already pushing water over that wall. My wife's aunt is in Baytown - she's staying with my wife's cousins. I'm actually really worried about them. There's a lot of my in-laws family down that way, and they all need a prayer.
  18. I do think McCain's going to peel a couple off of "old Kerry" states... so that really will throw it in the balance.
  19. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 12:44 AM) I have a friend that just flew into Houston Tuesday to spend a week at his parent's house. It's weird in that Ike is only a CAT 2 but they are saying that the storm surge is expected to be high and the pure size of it will cause wind damage in a large area. Without a strong eyewall, is this storm going to hold strength at its level longer than say if it were stronger at the eyewall and inflicted more direct damage before dying off? Does that make sense at all? Most cat 4 or 5 storms have a really intense, small area of powerful winds. This one is a cat 2, probably a 3 later today that is MASSIVE so the winds are just going to beat the crap out of you for a few hours and then shift and blow the other way for a few hours longer. When you add all that rain... it makes it bad for trees and stuff falling. They haven't changed the forecast here at all - in fact they said something about all that rain in Lubbock PHF just talked about is going to combine right over D/FW with Ike, Plus the wind. I bet we get at least 8 inches of rain around where we live if that happens.
  20. We got a pretty good amount of rain earlier this week - the bugs are horrendous. Now we're going to get 5+ inches of rain this weekend. My yard is a friggin' jungle and I can't mow it.
  21. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) Did y'all hear her daughter is pregnant? You jackass. PERSONAL ATTACK! Anyway, I give up. I'll just stick to economic and stuff like that, politics just sucks now in this forum.
  22. What a dogs*** piece of crap thread this has turned into. I have an idea, why don't we just turn the damn filibuster off until the election? It's f***ing BRUTAL reading this s***, it really is. That's why I've chosen to limit my participation in this crap now. We get it... DEMS: Palin sucks, she's an inexperienced woman all for everything we hate. REPS: RSO sucks, he's an inexperienced guy all for everything we hate. *YAWN* It's just pathetic watching the sniping back and forth, it really is. There's about 5 people in here who I care to read, the rest of you, it's gotten pathetic, no offense meant.
