  1. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) If I'm a professor, I want the answer to the poli 401 question at the poli 401 level. If I'm a voter, I want a candidate who can answer above a poli sci 101 level too. It's not about sophistication or bulls***, its about knowing and understanding the actual issues. It's pretty clear that she doesn't. And that is an unmitigated bad thing. That's why I said it's both good and bad.
  2. Um, panic, table of USA your table is waiting...
  3. QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) In all honesty if I were her I would tell him to stick the Veep job up his ass and bow out. He's making her look like a total moron. I would LOVE to hear exactly what they are telling her to, and not to do, and what to say, and not to say. There's definitely something weird happening with this whole thing.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) Another key part of it is that she just might not be familiar with some of the, let's say, "Code words" used by both sides to avoid actually stating their positions. Like how opposing abortion in the case of rape or incest becomes talking about a "Culture of life" or something like that. I don't agree with your exact example, but I agree with your point.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) I have to disagree with that. She gives the POLI 101 answer because she doesn't understand it at a higher level (imo). Ignorance is not refreshing to me. You can have a very solid understanding of the issues at hand and still be able to explain things in simple terms. Some people have great knowledge but are poor teachers/ explainers. She appears to have a simple understanding of the issues, hence her simple explanations. I do agree that is the case on some issues. Absolutely. Others, I think she knows her stuff but they don't want to have to sit there and defend every word she says. I think the debates will prove some of both sides out.
  6. Palin is a straight talker. (I know, that's a bad pun from the "Straight Talk Express"... but read me out). What I mean by that is, and I think Rex said it best in another thread, she gives a POLI 101 answer to a POLI 401 question, she talks plainly and simple. She doesn't give the "political bulls*** answer" that you'd hear from any of the other three. What does that mean? Most Americans, it's nothing - as a matter of fact, might even be somewhat refreshing. Our darling media? It means they will lamblast every freaking answer she has on anything until the cows come home, because she's not "sophisticated". Is that good or bad? It's both, frankly.

  8. Just talked to a guy here at work that used to be in the business. TECHNICALLY the total line is what they are supposed to go by. But most waiters enter the tip amount and don't check the math. But if the TOTAL is $37.00, that's the amount they are supposed to charge.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:21 AM) I'd think the Dems would have noticed that Uribe has been looking a lot better at 3rd this year. I was waiting for someone to say that.
  10. I haven't gotten my email yet. Maybe I won.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) The point that Limbaugh seems to think this actually matters might make some think that its more about hate than many others want it to be. Well, if the leftist blogs picked it up, I'm sure it's in some sort of context. Most of the time, this guy blathers crap that actually doesn't mean a thing but gets made out to be something it's not. That's all I'm really trying to say.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) So do I... the point that hate and fear are McCain's friends in this particular election, and he was using that to rile up the far-right base. No, his point is if he's an ARAB-American, then why would he get all the AFRICAN-American vote? He's not "black" - (please forgive my tone, I'm just trying to articulate what he was trying to point out, IMO). It's not about hate, as much as some want it to be.
  13. Seriously, I don't care if he's African American, Chinese American, Arab American, Whitey American, what the hell ever. The man's an AMERICAN, so can we STFU about it now? I do know the point he was trying to make, though...
  14. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) With the way the Twins have played the last two months, why should I believe that will make a serious run at 1st place? Everyone complained last night the Sox don't have the killer instinct to wrap this division up, and are letting the Twins right back in it. Where is the Twins killer instinct. If the Sox really have let them back in it time and time again, why haven't the taken it? Exactly. I will say this, the Sox better man up for once in Minnesota and just not decide they will bow down to the Twinkees in the Humpme dome.
  15. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) Since he injured it in a non-baseball way (hitting his hand on his bat), isn't it possible that little stress is put on that bone during a swing? I'm having dreams of Ozzie mysteriously putting Jerry Owens in LF batting third to start the Twins series and then in the first inning Hawk saying "Wait a second.....That's Carlos Quentin's Music!!!" and then have CQ stroke a 3 run homer. 'Cept that's impossible because it's in Minnie.
  16. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) Haha yea im not one of those fans who is 'just happy' to be in this position. We are in this position, great, nobody expected it, but who cares. There is still pleanty of work that needs to be done. Im not even going to say tonight is a 'must win' anymore. Just play good solid baseball. Im tired of this crap. They need a 2.5 game lead heading into Minny, i think everyone knows that. Just get it done, have some fun and lets go to the playoffs where anythng can happen, we can thank the 2006 St. Louis Cards who won it all with just 83 regular season wins for that statement. We all know from 2005 that it's getting hot at the right time. They just need to get in the playoffs, get that monkey off their back, and let it fly and see what happens.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) It was just really odd for me, that when Obama got his convention bounce, everyone called it a convention bounce. When McCain got a convention bounce, it was McCain taking over! The people who said that are idiots. My prediction is that the polls will all be within margin of error on election day. What a surprise, eh?
  18. Wow it would be big if Michelson and Kim win after being 3 down with 5 to play, they're all square right now.
  19. random Eat s***, my fellow filibuster mates. /random
  20. All Kaperbole ™ aside, I think that this is a much bigger issue of the structure of government being set up in the 1930's and not significantly changed since. You do have to have certain regulations in place - of course. But, many sides of this fence don't talk to each other and there are too many inconsistencies in the marketplace which allows for the manipulation you see today.
  21. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) As did "Dont Stop Believing" Except in 2005. Before and after, yup.
  22. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) *community organizes the group "Grannies for Body Equity"*
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) For all of your complaining that Obama would socialize this country it's hard to argue that the current GOP administration hasn't already done that. Yup. These bunch of idiots don't have a clue, and now they're panicking. But it's not just the GOP, here. It's the whole bunch of them, not related to party at all.
