QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2008 -> 07:59 AM) That's the key right there. I understand no what SS2K5 was referring to, and its certainly true that GWB had nothing to do with the recession that hit the country in 2001. He had zero control over that. And putting all other issues aside and looking at the economy, I think GWB did a few good things early on in his Presidency. I thought the tax rebates in late '01 were a good move at that time - it was a decelerator for the worsening economy. I thought the lowering of the cap gains tax rates was a good idea (though I honestly don't recall if that was really anything he had to do with, or if it was Congress, and I'm fuzzy exactly when it occurred). But then he went waaaaaaay off track economically. He entered an insanely expensive and stupid war, he tried to cut numerous other taxes while doing it, he allowed the budget deficits to skyrocket, the attempts at business regulation were awful, trade policies were short-sighted... he just really went off the rails. And yes, that collection of actions has had a negative effect on the economy. There's so much of that he DIDN'T control... but I guess that's a debate for another time because I better get to working on stuff. I

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) So I got called again by the Obama campaign, and had another Obamatron stop by my house. That makes 5 times they have contacted me since Friday. This is f***ing ridiculous. For the most financed campaign in the history of the world, you'd think they'd have a little organization to them. How incredibly wasteful. How many times do they need to be told I won't vote for them? If their campaign is an indication of they would run government, it sure won't be improved in effeciency. The guy has a damn good ground game - one that might win him the White House. That's one advantage of a long campaign.

I think the point is if everyone wants to b**** about GWB and his handling of the economy, then those same people who b**** about that needs to b**** about Clinton and his recessionary policies as well. The bigger point is neither one of them really has much influence over recessions.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 3, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) They call you even though you have no intentions of voting Democrat? That would annoy the hell out of me. Then again I hardly ever answer the phone if it's a number I don't recognize. I did vote in the Democrat Primary, actually. Since it was an open primary, a lot of people voted. Believe it or not, I do tend to vote both parties.

Obama's campaign called the s*** out of my house. A lot. Almost every day for the two weeks leading up to the primacaucus.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 3, 2008 -> 07:26 AM) I've never really seen the need to fire Walker because I blame the players, generally. But every time these guys swing they all look the same from the feet to the hips to the hands. I think Walker is probably a fine mechanics coach, but he has no clue how to tell a hitter how to adjust during an at bat. Case in point from an article yesterday: Link Talking about Quentin's stances. Then, if you recall, there was that Rowand article where he basically said that his success was due to the hitting coach in Philly because he taught how a swing should feel, rather than simple mechanics. If true, then I wonder how this organization doesn't know what it looks like to make adjustments, and how long Quentin will continue to succeed, and whether the hitting problems will ever end. I guess my point is, no lineup change is going to turn around the hitting problems that started years ago if, putting together what I read, the organization's hitting philosophy doesn't change. Good post - it's much better and more thought out then WALKER SUCKS FIRE HIS AZZ!!#!###!### LOLZ!#!###! that we get most of the time around here. The PHILOSOPHY needs to change - and quickly.

QUOTE (YASNY @ May 3, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) What's "it" .... the fact I've been away for a month? This thread and the sentiment behind it. Not you... oops, sorry YAS. I enjoy it when you're around these parts. -

QUOTE (YASNY @ May 3, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) I've been away from the Buster for over a month, with the exception of one post. There are two things I'd like to say about this thread. 1. This is the very first thread in the history of the Buster where everyone agrees. 2. In the spirit of sending out good vibes and thoughts to universe, I agree. And I think the discussion has been a lot better for it. -
I have edited knight's original link post to add an alternative site - try those links for download.

Is this April Fools on May 1?

I just lost my cell phone too. Dammit. I guess that's why I pay for the insurance.

As much as everyone's b****ing about whatever they are b****ing about, they're still in first place, and every team in the Central is having some issues. It could be a dog fight all the way to the end of the summer in this division. It will come down to who can weather the down times the best.

somehow, you all got caught up in AHB's post string. But I think it's stopped now.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 1, 2008 -> 06:57 AM) I do not think it is racist. I think long lines at the polls is a mistake. I think long lines at the DMV to have ever American photographed by the state is a mistake. I think this is a solution looking for a problem. Stopping voter fraud is an admirable goal. But doing so at the expense of legitimate voters while ignoring the biggest source of fraud, absentee ballots, is political grandstanding and pandering for votes. Now I have to go check my mailbox for my stimulus check Bush Woot! Gop! there is some pandering I really like. ok, I just have to... do you even know how to use your mailbox? I keeeeid, I keeeeeid.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) You need to stop, sir. It's sarcastic as crap, yes, but then, seriously, where does the nonsense stop?

I just heard on the radio today (because it's a local company) that BNSF has record profits and volume last quarter, FWIW.

PK = 10/5 = never going anywhere. We will have another 3 years of piss poor Aprils/Mays, passive aggressive double speaking bulls*** to deal with from PK. Yea! -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) Some of the cornerstones of our society is we believe (correctly I believe) that the vast majority of people are honest and we value the rights of the people who are honest over the possible law breakers. Innocent until proven guilty. Freedom from unusual search and seizure. It is often times said we would rather 10 guilty men go free then one innocent person convicted. When someone has registered to vote and proven at that time they are eligible to vote, we then need a reasonable way to determine of that same person votes. Matching signatures seems like it should be good enough. Also, using Kap's theory, which I like, that all politicians are the same, what little fraud there may be, is balanced between the parties. Yes, that is true, but for some reason, you only typically hear about the Democrat problems. I wonder why that is?

I gotta love the way that the Dallas Stars have responded this playoff year. I know, I know, this is a Chicago board. But, I gotta support someone in the playoffs - at least this way I can go to the Finals if they get there.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 08:21 AM) I think you are mixing three different groups there. For example, I am OK with voter ID laws (with provision for free ID), and am not screaming about this. But I do disagree with the usefulness of the electoral college at this point. And I am not OK with the superdelegates either. I don't mean people here per se, but in some of the coverage I've watched lately. (I actually did realize early this week there's such a thing as a tv, but it was only because my parents were in town and watching it).

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) I do not see the hypocrisy unless you know of some laws that the Dems backed to make voting more difficult or where the GOP made voting easier for traditional GOP voters. The hypocrisy would cut both ways, the GOP would not be introducing this bill if they thought it would take away their voters. The same people that are screaming about this scream about the electoral college as well but then see the "superdelegates" in the Dem primary as ok - that's where I see some hypocrisy.
-
So how many people who are "disenfranchised" would have taken the time to give a s*** to vote anyway? This whole argument reeks of hypocrisy - but then again, if it "disenfranchises" Democrats it's wrong and if it "disenfranchises" Republicans it's ok. (loosely held).

Rev. Wright is in this for Rev. Wright. He's "DREAMED" (nice "pun", eh) about having a national audience of which to spout off his rhetoric, and now he has it. Rev. Wright's EGO is what is throwing Obama around, not the Clintons or anything else. The man is a fanatical idiot - and his "round of defending himself" tells me all I need to know.

I actually like reading a real newspaper. I guess I retain it better when it comes off of a page then a computer screen.
