QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) I sure hope you're talking about me! Glad I could help.

still, *crickets* from our know-it-all fan... This is a funny, funny thread in a way.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) Huckabee? Really? Interesting. I know virtually nothing about the man. Now I need to go do some research. Which mainstream? With the Bush administration losing its grip on the party, we are seeing a continued fracturing there - the GOP is becoming two parties. The religious/social crusaders (further right), and the small government business-focused conservatives (more moderate socially). And I am not convinced about which one will win out for the voice of the party in 2008. The crusaders are still very powerful, but as strong as their rise was in the last decade, their fall looks like it is going to be even faster. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) Good analysis. The fiscal conservatives have been all but squeezed out during the Bush admin. The tax cuts were about the last real thing he did that was what we were looking for... He hasn't even made an attempt to rein in spending, even if you excuse the extra spending in the couple of years after the Clinton recession. Both good points.

People's problem is the fear of the unknown around here vs. not fearing what you know. Miguel Olivo was the next Carlton Fisk around here. How the hell has that panned out? I could go on, but you get the point.

Yea, and *crickets* since that post, if you all follow what I'm saying. Imagine that. Oh, lookie here. I spoke too soon. This ought to be a gem.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) Wow, just wow. This is the picture perfect post of Sox fans overrating BMAC. ^^^^^^^ Thank you. BMac is good, but not THAT good. He's not Cy "bleeping" Young.

NO ONE knows if the 2007 team is improved until they take the field and the season is over. Only then we'll know. The rest is pure speculation on both sides of the fence.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) Now you've gotten with the picture, Kap. We've been /rollsey-ing this admin for a wahile, but there's always room for one more. Nice one!

It's strange that this happened on the same date.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) Let's see, here we go...Dept. of the Interior produces a study showing that sending billions of dollars in subsidies to oil companies to drill in the Caribbean doesn't produce much oil, the oil it does produce costs more than the going rate on the market right now ($80 a barrel), and that the oil companies make out like gangbusters in the deal. And of course, in response to this study which showed beyond any shadow of a doubt that the U.S. was making a mistake in funneling tens of billions of dollars to those oil companies...the Bush Administration, in a totally unexpected move which I'm sure was done with the good of the American people in mind...covered up the report for more than a year. Just another day. /rollseyes

Kap a new server. Oh wait.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) That, I have no answer to. I guess it's entirely possible he thought he was taking originals, but wound up not doing so. That is the disturbing part of all of this...there appears to be no good explanation for his behavior in the facts that are available. I love the way that's worded. It made my point very well.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Seriously, if Iran were to stop selling oil tomorrow, their government would collapse before our economy would. I'd bet money on it. That may be true. But for Joe Schmoe American, it would kill us to pay $5 to $10 a gallon for gas while the market shifted.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) The strawman thing went out of style a while ago, Kap. No one has said anything to defend this, and I suspect no one will. Its not different. Its the same. Show me where anyone other than you said otherwise. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) Well, the judge sure did by giving him a small fine and community service. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) The problem is that they would have to find the documents, which are potentially destroyed, which would have given a reason for something to hide. Proving a reason for the obstruction becomes hard with a smoking gun document. That was more my point. If this were, oh hell, name some Republican, they would have manufactured documents to make sure that the person would have gotten jail time and smeared them through heaven and hell and back again.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) No they don't. Iran knows if they were to quit selling oil on the world market (technically we don't buy oil directly from Iran, we buy it from other OPEC nations, while Iran sells to everyone else) the tenuous hold that the Clerics hold over the people would disappear, because the rich elites would collapse. They know they have to sell oil to stay in power. If we really want to disassociate ourselves with the problems in the middle east we need to do everything we can to pump them dry, that way we HAVE to find an alternative energy source to fuel our economy, and we go back to caring about the middle east like we do subsaharran Africa... I.E. not at all. Short term, they do. Long term, you're right, which is exactly what we're doing.

Yea, that one is out there, and the college deductions were reinstated as well. And for you stock people, now's the time to dump "bad stocks" if you cashed any in earlier in the year for gains. Teachers get deductions/credits for $$ spent out of their own pocket for supplies. I'm sure I'm missing some things, but hey... you can't get everything from your Soxtalk Certified Pain in the Ass.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) Sandy Berger hid and destroyed classified documents... Gee I wonder who he was protecting? But it's DIFFERENT! Obstruction of justice, etc. when it's to protect the Clintons is just protecting our country!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) A big part of me wonders if the real intent in Iraq was to spread revolution all over the middle east by destabilizing the most powerful governments, and stoking the long cooking embers of secartian hate to a nice boil... because we aren't that far away from all out civil war from Saudi Arabia clear to Eygpt right now. DING! The goal was to destablize, but not let it get out of control. Unfortunately, that's a large gamble. Only time will tell... but no matter what, it leads to "end times" scenarios (and I'm not trying to turn this into a religious "Christian" conversation, but it will lead to acolyptic (sp.) wars - that's more my point). -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Are you so dense as to ignore the chairman's words that it was a message to the President? Those were his words, not mine. Jesus Christ, mate -- first you act incredulous and smarmy in response to my claim that Carter was given the nod to spite Bush then when the chairman's own words are brought in you say, "Well, he deserved it anyway, and besides, they could've given it to Clinton or Gore to spite Bush!" which of course ignores the fact that Bush and the Clintons get along fairly well, Gore has nothing that merits Peace Prize (and Clinton is a stretch). Whatever, man. Carter's Peace Prize was an award from hacks to a hack. And who gives a s*** whether or not the Peace Prize committee thinks Bush's actions are noble or not? Plenty of deserving people have never won a Peace Prize and Yasser Arafat has. Who cares about the Nobel Peace Prize, and what extra authority does it give Carter when the committee said that they were sending Bush a message with it? Screw that. I actually agree with you. :shudders:

Wow. If Oden goes, Philly did, assuming they get TWO lottery picks? Interesting.
