Joe Lieberman will run in the general.
It's over, Joey conceded. IMO, he just needs to bow out now.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) Legitimate dissent undermines no policy. Right, that's true, but how much of all of this is 'legitimate dissent'? Most of it is posturing for camera time, and that's pure bulls***.

Iran ramping up nuclear activities
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 02:26 AM) ohhhhhhhhh, THAT'S what you meant. Yeah, I'd be in the 50% that say no. Probably more than 50% of us, too. No to nukes, no to indescriminate carpet bombing, no to erring on the side of s*** goes boom. CONVENTIONAL warfare, on a mass scale (not carpet bombing, even) is all it would take. But, again, we still don't have the wherewithal to do it.

Iran ramping up nuclear activities
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) Except that if you institute the draft as you hint at here, you will NOT have the same capabilities. Drafted soldiers and volunteer soldiers are not interchangeable - they aren't pods. There is a difference. Besides, you need a lot more than bodies, training and knowledge as well - you also need a ton of hardware that we don't have yet. We aren't ready. I am NOT calling for a draft. We have the technology to destroy stuff but good with little man power. But. as I said, half (at least) of Americans couldn't stomach a real ass-kicking war "without justification". THESE PEOPLE WANT TO KILL US. Is that justification enough?

Middle East conflict
SOMEONE gets it. Right freakin' dead on, Mr. Pollard. I wish our media had the balls to write this. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,6-2302757,00.html

Iran ramping up nuclear activities
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Fixed that for you. Funny, but you miss the point (well, you probably didn't but the conversation moved away from it, imagine that). The military can win any war it wants to, but 50% of Americans wouldn't stand for it.

Iran ramping up nuclear activities
We *COULD* do something about it, but the left in this country couldn't stomach it. That's why we have to have all the diplomacy in the world that will lead to the same thing, and that's a nutcase regime with a nuclear weapon - more nutcase then North Korea.

Floyd Landis tests positive for testosterone
It friggin' disgusts me. I've always enjoyed watching the Tour, and now... screw them all... they all are crooked, including the "saint" Sir Lance. He just never got caught.

Effect of WBC
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Hmm that is possible, but the Comcast gun early this year was completely out of whack, so that could have been part of it. Actually, I think it was the 2nd or 3rd start for him, and it would have had to be a WGN or ESPN game, because that's all I can get. But I don't remember the details. I know what you all mean, though, he's been struggling all year, one 90 mph game that I seem to remember notwithstanding.
-
Effect of WBC
Yea, I think so... I seem to remember one of those April starts where he was about 90 or so on his fastball pretty consistant.

Effect of WBC
QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) I don't know of this velocity in april you speak of. In April, he was at least around 90. Not anymore.

Effect of WBC
QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Looking at all the guys who threw in the WBC, and how a lot have done poorly or have gotten hurt, there might be something to this affecting pitchers. The time pitchers were throwing in the WBC they would have normally been getting their work in during spring, throwing nice and easy, working on mechanics, location etc. Most innings in the WBC, though, were high stress, where the pitchers went all out with each pitch. Few guys were probably prepared for the extra stress on their arms, or were expecting such intense games. I ABSOLUTELY think that the WBC had an effect on Freddy... ESPECIALLY Freddy, because he pitched into almost November. His velocity was there in WBC, and was there in April, and now it's not. He's tired. And rightfully so.

a SMART blonde joke
A blonde walks into a bank in Chicago and asks for the loan officer. She says she's going to Europe on business for three weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blonde hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank. She has the title and everything checks out. The bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the blonde for using a $250,000 Rolls as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then proceeds to drive the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Three weeks later, the blonde returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $18.41. The loan officer says, "Miss, we are very happy to have had your business and this transaction has worked out very well, but we are a little puzzled." "While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles us is why you would bother to borrow $5,000?" The blonde replies, "Where else in Chicago can I park my car for three weeks for only $18.41 and expect it to be there when I return?" Finally... a SMART blonde joke. :0)
