  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Many scholars and legal experts would agree that the reason is partially or mostly racist. Minorities (blacks primarily) smoked pot and nice WASPs drank gin. This is true, if you go back to the early 20th century. A lot of those laws had influences back to those times. Prohibition, notwithstanding.
  2. YES! I was hoping that was the case... great to hear he made it.
  3. By Bob Hull The White Sox continue a ten game home stand with a middle three game set versus the Central Division leading Detroit Tigers. After taking two of three from the Yankees in the first series of the home stand, the White Sox find themselves 8.5 games back in the Central Standings and .5 games up in the wild card standings entering this weekend's play. August 11, 12, 13 @ U.S. Cellular Field Probable Starters: Detroit Tigers CF Curtis Granderson 2B Placido Polanco C Ivan Rodriquez RF Magglio Ordonez SS Carlos Guillen 1B Sean Casey DH Craig Monroe/Dmitri Young LF Marcus Thames/Craig Monroe 3B Brad Inge Chicago White Sox LF Scott Podsednik 2B Tadahito Iguchi DH Jim Thome 1B Paul Konerko RF Jermaine Dye C A.J. Pierzynski 3B Joe Crede SS Juan Uribe/Alex Cintron CF Brian Anderson Pitching Probables: Aug 11, 7:35 PM: Jose Contreras (10-4, 3.75) vs. Justin Verlander (14-4, 2.79) Aug 12, 12:20 PM: Mark Buehrle (9-10, 4.89) vs. Kenny Rogers (11-5, 4.59) Aug 13, 1:05 PM: Freddy Garcia (10-7, 4.83) vs. Zach Miner (7-2, 4.05) Last 10 Games: Tigers: 6-4 White Sox: 6-4 Who's Hot/Who's Not: Ivan Rodriguez has had very timely hits in the past seven games. He is hitting .364 (8 for 22) and has two game winning hits in the last week. In his last eight games, Jermaine Dye continued his season of excellence. He is hitting .424 (14 for 33) over those eight games. Justin Verlander has been one of the "hot" stories this season, but not against the White Sox. He is 0-2 with a 11.42 ERA vs. the Sox this season. He has not started since Aug. 1 - missing his last start to allow his tired arm a break. Juan Uribe has not played since Aug. 4. Ozzie Guillen has voiced his displeasure with the inconsistent Uribe for taking his batting season-long batting woes into the field with him. Look for Uribe to get his chance to start fresh this weekend. Soxtalk Breakdown: The White Sox were swept after the All-Star break in Yankee Stadium and followed that series by dropping two of three to the Tigers in Detroit. The White Sox won their series against the Yankees this time around, while Detroit dropped their first series since June by dropping two of three to Minnesota. The Tigers of 2006 are really in the same mold of the White Sox of 2005 - great pitching and defense and timely hitting. The season is starting to get long in the tooth, and the time to narrow the gap is now. Look for the White Sox to play a good series versus Detroit this weekend - which makes the upcoming four game set in Detroit in two weeks very large. The White Sox need to narrow the gap to around 6 games in the Central to close out the weekend to have a shot at the Central crown; otherwise, Detroit will have the confidence of beating the defending World Champs as the season is winding down. This series is huge, and the Sox will play like it. Prediction: White Sox win 2 of 3.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) I really have no hate going on here. I'm entirely calm. Fisk is as recognizable as he is because he was on the Red Sox. That play is recognizable because of Fisk. The play was number 1 because it was recognizable. HATE HATE HATE!!!!!! That makes sense, but don't let anyone else know I told you that.
  5. QUOTE(EVIL MISQUOTER @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) Let's just agree to disagree. There's been enough tits picked here. Fixed that for you. I see what you both are saying. Back to the topic - AMAZING streak - it's awesome to even be talking about this. Let's get that 17th game sold out too, so we can have a sell out streak into next season!! THAT would be awesome.
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) I can see how it should be in the top 3, because it's so recognizable. But, the other two were better and the reason Fisk is number one is because he's much more famous than Iguchi and Uribe because....he played for the Red Sox. Oh come on. You have way too much hate going on there. Again, it's on the scoreboard for every game opening... it's RECOGNIZABLE (you said it yourself), that's why it was chosen #1. NOT because he was a RED SOX. It has nothing to do with it... except for someone who can't get off the east coast conspiracy.
  7. Two things. 1 - I agree that we are looking at "modern web gems" - because of the advent of TV. There have been way better, to be sure. 2 - Yes, I agree that Fisk's play was more "odd" then "spectacular" and Uribe's catch was more of the 'spectacular" variety. But the notion of it was chosen soley because he was RED SOX property is just plain ignorant. "They only chose that play because he was a RED SOX"... PLEASE. You all have way too much conspiracy theory on the brain. It's shown in our pregame every time out, for crying out loud, so someone in the WHITE SOX organization still thinks it's a good play on its own.
  8. oh good grief. OF COURSE any catcher can do that, but how often has it happened? It's one of the best plays you'll ever see, if not spectacular. And can it with the "red sox" comments, please. Let it be what it is, a great WHITE SOX play.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) Alexa is a website that tracks traffic on commercial sites. It happened to be tracking Lieberman's and Lamont's site. Both had equal spikes in traffic. The difference? Joe Lieberman's website was on a shared server with 74 other websites. This website has trouble with 350 people on it at once. It wasn't a bandwidth issue. It looks more like a server issue. This site has trouble with 350 people on it because of database limitations, not bandwidth or server issues. For the record.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) I still have the same reaction to Ft Wayne It's been like 3 years since I've been in the city of Ft. Wayne. The last time was to check out the "new" Memorial Coliseum with you all. It's nice to live in a real city.
  11. That movie looks like the worst movie EVER. I mean, really.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) I'm pretty proud of myself. I pretty much said the exact things the lawyer said. Oh noes.......
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) sometimes? Yea, sometimes ignorance is excusible. In this reference, it's not.
  14. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) Americans don't vote for losers. This is pure gold coming from you.
  15. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) This is shocking!!!! I am now compelled to do whatever it takes to win the war on terra!!! This is WWIII!!! Where can I sign up!!?! And is there anyway I can help make sure that liberal defeatist Ned Lamont is defeated by the great American patriot Joe Lieberman!?! Yea, cause this is exactly what's happening - why the story broke and when it did. Sometimes I hate ignorance.
  16. Something that keeps being missed, is this is Conn. we are talking about. Of COURSE they are against the war. Of COURSE they are more left then the rest of the country by and large. And that was Joe's constituency. That's the bottom line of all of this. Personally, I think CT's viewpoints on things are wrong, but it's their right to be wrong.
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) The real question is how many terrorist middle managers will lose their jobs with the merger? That's awesome. Especially with what's going on in my company right now.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) damn great discussion, but I have to leave. Threads lke this are why I enjoy the buster. SLACKER!
  19. oh, how cute. Now they're being like CEO's of companies doing mergers and all... capitalistic pigs.
  20. No double standard here, huh? Good riddance, Cynthia.
  21. QUOTE(samclemens @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) how's that? edit: i based my statement on: iranian troops now fighting with hezbollah + another terrorist attack attempted = spinning out of control not the WWIII part, the "hopefully now the UK will fall in line" part was ignorant, IMO. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Timing is everything. At some point, someone in the chain of command is going to, for example, pick 9/11 as the date. I don't believe the timing is random. Do you? I think +/- one week is what they had to deal with, not a prep of months to time it right before 9/11. They got the final goods to bust these guys, and they took it. That's it.
  22. QUOTE(samclemens @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) this is WW3. at least the UK will fall into line now (hopefully). (where's that rolly smilie?) That's just an ignorant statement.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) Exactly. I can believe they are wating for a perfect opportunity before some attacks. Whether an Anniversary date, in response to American agression, real or not. I guess this means that Isreal is getting ready to kick some serious ass, huh? Get freakin' real, people. I thought I was a conspiracy nut... guess not.
