Really? I hadn't had trouble, but also, I have noticed they said they run into bandwidth issues every once in a while.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Here is the letter that Sen. Rockefeller wrote in 2003 to the White House expressing his concern over the program. He says he is worried about the program, and he's even more worried about the fact that he can't consult with his staff or anyone else in Congress about it. Edit: Statement by the Senator: Ohhh, so these f***ers DID hear about the program, and never came forward, until the times broke it? Which is it? "We didn't know".... or ... "We kept our mouth shut until it becomes a political football and now we're punting that f***er as hard as we can?..." Interesting.

Amputee vet running to replace Hyde in Congress

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) PLEASE. Speak for yourself. I've never said that. I don't see anyone saying that here. God, these generalities! I wasn't saying you did. My fault for implying that by quoting your post. But it is implied throughout the SLaP forum in some more subtle ways. -

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) Was she a Republican before her candidacy? Your comment makes it sound that way. I don't know. I'm sure time will answer that question. -

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Well, let’s see - of some of the people who have posted here; one said he wasn’t interested in finding out anything more about her, two are on my ignore list so I don’t know what they said ; a couple made some harmless cracks; one said she was being supported by the Democrats for the pity factor; and everything else has been cripple, cripple, cripple. If it walks like a duck etc. I'm kind of saying that. I wish it weren't true, but I'm saying that indirectly. I'm sure we can dredge up some Republican crap of the same sort of thing. After all, they are a "party of fear". -

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) She's been a leader with Rotary in establishing community service programs in hotspots throughout Southeast Asia including East Timor. She's now a Major in the Illinois National Guard. Makes her as qualified as anyone else. She is, by definition, a leader. And the amputation has nothing to do with her being encouraged to run. Chances are they were eyeing her before her injury, and possibly before she left for Iraq. I'm willing to bet she had been somewhat active politically before she left to Iraq as well. And it's just entirely possible that she wants to run for Congress. Another possibility that everyone else here has ignored. Then the article that was printed to start the thread is HORRIBLE at getting that point across. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) Does this mean Kap spends his time "talking to hot chicks on the internet"? Oh yea. Edit: I see murph lurking. Believe me, I'm ready to go home.

Amputee vet running to replace Hyde in Congress

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) So she's a qualified person recruited to enter public service. I don't see the problem. She may be the best person for the job, but she wouldn't be in the running at all if it were not for the exploitation of the inflicted handicap. Or to say it another way, the sickness is, she would NOT be a candidate if it were not for the amputee part of it. That's the point that is trying to be made. THAT is the saddest commentary of the whole thing. -

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) They've already indicated that they're not interested in the resume of this particular candidate. But they do want to keep discussing why she's not qualified. Sad. I don't think anyone said she wasn't qualified. But she absolutely did get recruited and a lot of money shoved her way simply to put the (D) behind her name. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) I've been forced to take it to mean that we are not supposed to be critical of the president and his administration because that would just be playing partisan politics. Nope. Nice try. It means, at least most of the time, please quit blaming our president for everything on the planet earth that's wrong, because the same games get played by both parties. It's just one side gets reported far more then the other for the "wrongs". Where is that parliamentary system when we need it? On a serious side note, what's wrong with a parliamentary system anyway? Maybe that should have its own thread. I'm curous to see what you all think about that.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) Personally I think brandishing war wounds around on the campaign trail is wrong-headed. Its not the fact that she's handicapped that bothers me its the fact that she was recruited for candidacy because of it. Politicians should stick to the issues. I think it's been said three times now. But apparantly, we're just bashing her for her injustice against the Republican (war mongering) machine. I mean, how could she go against the Republicans if she's a war hero? We're too ignorant to look at *gasp* issues. I think I've had my allottment of SLaP today. I'm starting to get cynical. My apologies. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Not me. So long as They All Do It® , then what's the harm? Keep twisting what I mean by that.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) Unless he really thought this activity had to be hidden from even the secret FISA courts. I'm getting all Tom Clancyish now... but every single conversation that takes place anywhere on earth has the potential to be overheard. Somehow. If they are monitoring certain people that are in illegal activity, and they have to act on it before they get approval, then what?

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) So, therefore the whole story is nullified because they wanted the scoop out before the book release? It's still pretty important regardless. I love how everyone here peers into the motivation of the messenger before they even look at the message. That's just plain sad. I've never once said that. I do, however, think that if you let a story sit and then release it for purely monetary gain ... that could potentially harm people in this country, that's shameful too. Again, I'd like to know details as opposed to the blanket Penis-In-Chief comments. And much like the amputee story (on the flip side), this isn't news at all if a Democrat did it, which I'm positive has happened. Can I prove it? No. But, I'm sure it's happened.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) Kap, they didn't hold the article because of a pending book release. They held the article at the request of the White House. Yea, until the book was going to come out, and then they couldn't hold it any longer.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) I've known of her candidacy for weeks. I found out she was an amputee yesterday. Nobody in the party is talking about her missing legs. But if you wanna say its because she's all stumpy - that's your perogative. Rex, look at the damn article that started this thread. It MADE A POINT to talk about the amputee part. If she's so damn good as a candidate, why even talk about it? Ohhhh, because they have to so that she's more appealing. Come on. It's too obvious. And I'm not trying to mock her. I appreciate what she's sacrificed. But she was 100% recruited on appeal, not her beliefs. -
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) Kap, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, serious, witty or all of the above. Nice job! The administration can get a warrant up to 72 hours after the fact and still have the eavesdropping be OK under law. Why the need to circumvent the law? And why get mad at the whistleblowers if you're proud of your action to begin with? The anger about being found out seems to portray something more sinister, I fear. And I think the point is that I thought we are fighting to protect freedom and the rule of law. If we flout both to save it, what are we fighting for to begin with? In all seriousness, I can't really make up my mind on this issue yet. I don't think I'm educated enough, other then to know that the NY Slimes held the story for over a year, and 10 days before a book is going to come out on the issue, WALLAHKAZAM, a NY Slimes exclusive appears before our eyes. I can also piece together the issue above - that the only time this was used is if the communications were country to country (outside the US). Not sure of the legalities there, and I wonder if that's where things are somewhat hairy. And I hate to do this ... because again it becomes a pissing contest of sorts and on this issue I don't mean to turn this into that ... but I guarandamntee you that Clinton before and GB the First did it too, and just never got caught. I'm sure of it.
