QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) I’ve been curious as to why there isn’t one of those standard “Read This before You Post” or FAQ type of things to allow new posters to get up to speed on the site’s dos and don’ts. Since Soxtalk has been around for awhile, I figure it must be a conscious philosophical decision not to have such, rather than not having the time to do so. Just wondered what the reasoning was behind that decision. Actually Mercy! I think there is somewhere... when I get some time I'll look them up - I might have them somewhere on my local pc because I know we talked about this. Good thought, and I appreciate that.

working on a damn paper and had class last night today's the final and the presentations for our paper that's due in two weeks. I love the presentation BEFORE the paper. nice touch. So I had leftover chicken and dumplings last night when I got home. Not that bad, except this morning I'm hungry as hell and don't have time to eat anything all day.

The more I read - the more I'm glad Alfonso Sorryass Soriano (A.S.S) is gone. f***wad. Play where-ever you can to help your team win. Oh wait, it's aaaaaaaaaaall about meeeeeeee... (come on, won't you sing along...) aaaaaalllll about meeeeee...

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Stop gap? Stop gap? Keep saying that in your head, and then picture Arnie Munoz, Felix Diaz and Danny Wright in your head. Calulate how many wins that loses us and come back to me. Our team is stronger and better with our pitching intact, than it would be if we traded one of them for a little more offense. Apparently nobody watched us win the WS last year? Now everyone wants some boppers and we can "fill in" some SP Some people apparently have very short memories, an XBox, PS2, and too much time on their hands.

Thank God B(owel) M(ovement) signed somewhere else. Can we please stop talking about the WHITE Sox getting this guy now?

QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Eh, I was going to go with My friend Courtney and an ipod. . . And then I would give my lab a new soundproof booth, running software, and new computers. . . Oh, and then maybe I would give Texas the "gift" of snow. . . LMAO. (looking out my window) GEEE, THANKS, SOXY. We didn't get that much, but there's snow enough to cover the ground out in my back yard for two days. That's a long time around these parts.

Probably not - at least the way you are describing it - unless you're a teacher, but that's another subject.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 05:33 AM) I’m embarrassed to admit on a sports board that I can’t remember the last Super Bowl I bothered to watch. I record every Bears game (talk about zipping through something in years gone by), but I’m not much of a football fan. Funny, but last Super Bowl I meant to record it JUST to watch the commercials, but forgot all about it. That's about what I do. The Super Bowl is pretty much crap now. Well, this year it might not be.

Midway - basically you have to duck in underneath O'Hare's approach(es). I was in the cockpit jumpseating one time when we landed at Midway. You do come down pretty damn fast.

Just use fast reply instead.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) TIVO. I bought one over four years ago and have zipped past commercials ever since. Of course, that means I'm just that much more in the dark regarding another category of cultural references. You're not missing anything.

That plane is a newer plane (saw a pic). Lots of speculation, but it sounds like the pilot overshot the runway by just a little. Midway is a tricky airport to land at.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) I think they did the math and realized that 75-80% of their constituents do not smoke. I don't care what their motivation was, since they did the right thing for the society which they were elected to serve. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) I also worked in offices where there were policies that were immoral, unethical or that I violently disagreed with. I found new work, or I just quit. I generally am not on the side of business. BUT, private property is private property and I don't understand why it should be illegal to use legal products in private property with the consent of the owner. That I don't get. That's the problem I have. Constituents or no, it's PRIVATE property, and I should be able to do what I want on that property. If I want to allow smokers smoke at my establishment, I should be allowed to do so. I dislike smoke, and for me personally, wahoo... someplace else I can go smoke free. But the eroding of our property rights really bothers me about this issue. This issue is difficult for me.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) I rarely use the word “elitist,” but I really consider all those folks who tell the millions of employees who have to suffer the health and just plain quality-of-life consequences due to environmental tobacco smoke that they should either quit or organize to be an elitist position. (what a badly-constructed sentence, but you get my drift, I hope). Very few of the people who advocate the quit or organize position, I suspect, have to spend every hour of their work days under similar conditions. They are already protected. This is a public health issue, plain and simple. Do you really think they passed the law for the workers, or the patrons?

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) I don't get it. Discussing current political events involving the US without having it come back to involve the Bush administration would seem, well, rather pointless? Are you kidding me? Are you that blind? Bush is a screw up in a lot of ways, but to blame him for everything - which has been my point now for months on this forum - is very shallow on your part. Thanks for proving my point - unless I have TOTALLY misunderstood your point, which I may have.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) My brother was married for about 5-6 years when his wife passed away this April...he desperately wants to get married again. Your brother, as in I4E? Either way, definitely, our condolences.
-
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) I think the high divorce rate is corrolative to those who got married in their teens and/or twenties. I feel the divorce rate of those couple is probably much higher than 50%. How many of us can really "map out" our lives when we are that young? That's a good point. I know that "older" couples who are 25+ when they get married are a lot more successful in their marriages.

Anne Coulter is an idiot. Not stupid, just an idiot.
-
Let's face it. We're torturous, evil, self-gratifying, hypocritical, egotisical, arrogant, greedy, self-absorbed, blind, stupid, (did I say torturous), oil drinking, fanatical, capitalistic, dips***s. Does that about sum it up?
-
I see someone alluded to it... the BIG scuttlebutt here in Dallas is that the Rangers dumped Soriano to make a genuine run at Clemens.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 06:37 AM) But it sets a slippery slope of "I'm sorry SoxFan101, you can't have that alcohol because somebody else thinks it is bad." or "I'm sorry SoxFan101, you can't listen to that music because somebody thinks it is offensive" or "I'm sorry SoxFan101, you can't eat that because somebody was offended at the way it was made." You get to make the choice to put yourself in the situation where you know there will be smoking going on. If you don't like that establishment's choice -- then voice your opinion with your dollars and don't go there. Best post on soxtalk ever.
