  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) I've got a jar full of assorted ones if you get up here sometime soon. They might get cashed in during January so let me know what you want soon so I can separate them out yea, actually... I'll get a list of what I don't have, which is a lot now.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) Darcy better throw down with Vandermeer tonight, or else :angry Have fun dude!! Don't forget about question #2. I didn't tell him. Oops. And then again, I probably don't have to. I talked to him last night for a bit about getting all the travel and hotel arrangements made... this should be a pretty fun weekend. I'm gonna try to get him to answer question #2... DUDE from Toronto asks... ???? Um, yea, that's already happened. (leans forward) We need to talk... (silence)... Between reptiles, questions, and foot in mouth syndrome, I'll have some classic stuff.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) I am a big time coin collector. Its one of the things I picked up proudly from my grandmother. I check all of my change before throwing into jars as a kind of mini savings account. Honestly I think it could be a neat thing to pass on to my daughter when she is old enough to understand. Some hobbies easily transfer from generation to generation, and are neat ways to interact with your kids/parents etc. I tried collecting the state quarters, and after about (ironically) Indiana I quit. I need to catch those up somehow.
  4. The only reason I am starting this thread is cause I'm gonna be there tonight - probably with a pretty good seat. Remember the last time these two teams met there were I think 5 fights in the game and some bad feelings after the game. Tonight should be interesting. Nashville is pretty down right now, they are down to their third (and possibly fourth string) goaltender tonight because of injury. They also have lost three other key guys in the last two weeks. Chicago has been playing better as of late, and candidly, tonight they need to beat Nashville while they are down. Hopefully ya'll get a chance to tune in.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) I think he is. I specifically asked for a portable one.. and both Best Buy and the Sirus site don't offer one.. I coulda sworn they offered a portable one now.
  6. Nope. In this case, it's someone's opinion, no matter how wrong I think it is. Just don't attack HIM for it, attack the stupidity (IMO) of the post.
  7. QUOTE(LDF @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 04:57 AM) then why even have a msg board so we can all piss and whine and f***ing cry over every little pissant move our GM makes? damn... how soon you morons forget what we just accomplished. ENJOY what is happening... and realize that management is not sitting on their ass while everyone gets better, we are getting a LOT better.
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) I don't like this trade at all. We don't need to totally overhaul the team. Wilkerson sucks. Dude hit 32 hr's in 04 but only 11 last year. Blalock would be an upgrade offensively over Crede, but a downgrade defensively. A major prospect? Jesus! Why do we have to rape our farm system? Blalock is NOT that bad defensively. He had 50 some games in a row without an error.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) That's nice, but I never blamed Bush for the bad intel. How about the guys that fed him the wrong info taking a hike? How about we learn from this and figure out how not to make this mistake again? Not just this administration, but future ones as well. I have a lot of respect for Dubya in several areas. But when guys start taking blame for s*** that happened several layers beneath them, they seem to be placating some element of society. I am not criticizing him for the statement, I don't think it needed to be made by him. I think it needed to be made by the people who actually delivered the wrong information. Do you have a fever, Tex?
  10. I wouldn't think so... but I can ask around down here.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) A couple of the things that has slowed down my checking off from the life list is the remoteness of the Rio Grande Valley. Everything is a two hop plane ride. An hour or two to Dallas or Houston, than wherever. AL though I've gotten over my headache of the new restrictions the airlines have on stoves, fuels, etc. The second factor is I'm out with my Boy Scout Troop once a month and my Venturing Crew once a month, so I have to plan trips that are possible for either 11-17 year old boys or 14-20 year old coed crew. The Venturing Crew has a couple girls that are really excited about backpacking. The boys in the Troop love the 15 pound Dutch ovens and giant tents. My next spot is the Guadalupe Mountains and the highest spot in Texas. There is also a new wilderness area near the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico called Double H Ranch. No established campsites or routes. All very strict LNT backpacking. I am fairly certain to be spending two weeks there in 2007. I also added the Continental Divide Trail to my list, and I'm hoping to start hiking sections of it next year. The Continental Divide trail has some fascinating and beautiful views of more "modern" mountains, but the Appalachian Trail through the Smokies is breathtaking as well in its own right.
  12. QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) Only missed one point on my only final. I'm obviously the goddess of Conditioning and Learning. Conditioning and Learning what...? Edit: ding ding ding ding - hear that bell in the background? It's purina food time.
  13. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) I'll have a great deal for you! The plan is 3 days Rio, 2 days Manaus, 2 days Amazon Rain Forest. That's really cool. I would love to go there.
  14. I'll predict that this is not good enough for many. /bows out before it gets ugly.
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) Just because they may be impossible to entirely stop, that is no reason to not make inquiries into the irregularities. And when the "irregularities" happen with alarming regularity it is a responsible question to ask why, and what can be done about it. Oh, I agree - no matter what we have to make the system better. But to make the leap that the elections are "thrown" because of this, goes a lot too far, IMO, which is what I'm trying to say (I think).
  16. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) Punch cards or optical-scanned cards that can be physically preserved/protected and can be manually verified are quite a bit less hackable. Indeed. But they can also be altered. Just saying. It bugs me that (not necessarily you, Jim or LCR but I want to make a point) a lot of people in this country thinks the elections are all thrown when a Republican wins a "big" election. There will ALWAYS be irregularities. It's impossible to stop. Yet, Diebold "threw" the election. Katherine Harris chumped Al Gore. I could go on in some congressional elections... but the point's the same. By in large, the elections system works. And it makes me cringe to see all these conspiracy stories, because people are bitter and pissed off about what happened 5 years ago and can't let it go. I'm sure we would all be s***ting rose petals if Al Gore were president right now. But he's not, and we're supposedly 10,000 times worse off for it, so now the elections are all rigged.
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) We still havent given up the whining and conspiracy theories about the '04 election I see. :rolly More like 2000, 2002, 2004, and upcoming 2006. Hey - all kidding aside, anything's hackable. And for you all to suggest that there indeed was a grand scheme to hack votes so GWB could win Ohio... that's juuuuuuuust a little too far for me. (preparing now to see 7,856 links about how it happened from lib blogs).
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) i will agree the same, but I really really, didnt want to unload Chris Young, AZ really found a Gem with that one. I agree. Chris Young, from all accounts, has all-star potential, and that can't be said for most of these other "prospects" we have traded away over the last couple of years. At the same time, I really think this is a smaller piece of a bigger puzzle and will be a good move in the long run.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Let me put it this way...based on what I saw from him in 2005, there's no reason why he can't earn it if he stays healthy. When I watched him pitch at the end of the year, he was the best pitcher on our staff including Contreras. The only guy who I saw be any more dominant than BM in those games was MB in those couple 1 hour 50 minute games earlier in the season. I think he can win the Cy Young award based solely on what i saw last year, if he can stay consistent, yes. Will he? Well, let's just say I hope so. I think he will win one with us, or he'll finish up 2nd to Mark. He is that good. Even if he has some difficult games next year...the one thing I do want is to make sure he is in the starting rotation, so he gets enough innings to keep working things out. I agree that B-Mac is something special. And more importantly, CHEAP, at least right now. That's what makes me think that Jon-jon is more likely to go in this scenario if there's another deal coming.
  20. So what you're saying. Balta, is everything being equal, just hand the Cy Young award to Mr. BMAC next year if he's going to be the best on our staff?
  21. Some of you same people that are b****ing about this trade b****ed about Count too. Just food for thought.
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) He lost me, TQ. I'm just awestruck. Clearly, there is another move in the wings, here, and I have no idea what direction Kenny is heading. Is he perfectly clear on what direction he is heading? I was always the first to salute Kenny and give him the benefit of the doubt--the man brought a World Championship to this city after 88 years--but, he truly lost an ardent supporter today. He flat-out cut off his nose to spite his face. -You lose bullpen depth in Luis Vizcaino. Remember bullpen depth? You know...one of the key components to that World Series Roster -You completely f***-up McCarthy's situation. That kid was absolutely ready for that fifth-starter's role this year and I can say that without a shaddow of a doubt. What the hell is going to happen there? Are you telling me you are going to stick Brandon in the bullpen for 2006, waiting for an injury? -It appears Jon Garland, a guy who would probably leave after this season, whom CAN BE REPLACED IN 2006 FREE AGENCT, is on his way out along with Chris Young, the Golden Boy and CF of the future. He lost me. He's going to have to earn this supporter--and his money, devotion, and time at the ballpark--back. Wow, dude. Juuuuuuuuust a little bit of an over-reaction. It's your right, but my opinion stands.
  23. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) This really shows how far the Middle East still has to go before it will be on par with our form of democracy. I mean, if they were serious about stealing the election they'd be using Diebold voting machines instead of trailer trucks full of ballots. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/14/internat...agewanted=print Don't forget the Diebold machines owned by Bush's GREAT, BEST friend. We really need to get that conspiracy theory right!
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) If they got Tejada, we'd have to be in the 100 mill range. Which is why I don't think this happens. Unless Garland goes. And even then, I doubt it. I can't think the payroll is going to $100M plus.
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) You can't blame him. Its on the other board too. Levine made it sound as if the deal he threw together off the top of his head, was imminent. Like I said... it smells, and it's not necessarily all his fault. I edited the topic title.
