  1. That's what pensions are for, right? (serious question - teachers are highly pensioned)
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) The stimulus was proposed along with estimates that said unemployment would keep going up. That was 100% assumed at the time of passage. Wrong. Remember 8%?
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) The point is kind of weak and actually it's entirely moot to be honest. Who the f*** would care if someone was building a Christian center there? There would be no controversy and nothing to talk about. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) If someone wanted to build a Christian center in Mecca or Jerusalem, I'd support it wholeheartedly and I'd hope everyone else would as well. The locals in Mecca, for example, would not. Which is exactly why this country is right. You're only thinking this through about 15% to 25% of the way here. This is ALL, from every angle, a poltical statement. Built it? /// Uhhh Ground Zero!! (check). In this way, we can make those stupid American f***ers racist pigs that they are, even though building here is of course imflammatory to begin with... let's get those Allah Hating people in our face, because it makes us look like the tolerant ones (check). Pull in the political leaders and start the back and forth (check). Imam makes phone calls talking about what a meat feast this is turning into - send more money - NOW - so we can get the shariah mentions in here... (check) Imam meets with mayor Bloomburg, tells him he'll get some cash out of the deal in the backroom, Mayor announces this as a great idea (check this one is the chaching kind) Call in more controversy by saying that they are only coming to this particular site out of revverence, love, peace, and all that crap for the people who died there that day (check) ....... all the while knowing that even the action being considered is condecending, provacative, and just downright "morally repugnant" knowing the seeds down there. (check) Now you have the Sean Hannity's of the world running around talking how bad this is (check) and therefore how much better they all really are, because ultimiately a "peaceful (YET DISRESFECTFUL AS HELL) religion" wants to clearly set up base there to make a name for themselves on one of the most controversial places in the world. For Chris's sakes, just make the movie about it and get it over with... bunch of attention whores trying to make points that frankly don't need to be made there.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) He'd never have to support a Christian center because they aren't bomb carrying terrorist. It cracks me up how no one can see the point through the forest here.
  5. If this were a 'Christian' center, would he have stood up as strongly for this? We all know the answer to that. Again, this is all just a big show.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) What years was George Bush president? What year did Glenn Beck start on Fox News? He was on CNN yelling way before Fox News.
  7. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) balta/northsidesox are 100% correct in this. Of course they are. Just remember what you ask for, you just might get it... and what you people don't realize is this whole agenda is not what you think it is. But thanks for playing.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) If you make it easier to become a legal citizen, I believe most reasonable people would also agree that you can more strictly enforce illegal immigration. I assume that there are other people like me who do not want to enforce illegal immigration laws, because we really do not believe in them. I do not believe that freedom should be "First come first serve", but instead that the path to freedom should be available to all that seek it. So if everyone could come to the US legally, I would have no problem being a hard ass on those who still came here illegally. I would have no crisis of conscience because I would know that the people who came here illegally had the opportunity to come here legally, but just chose not to. Conversely, today I feel bad for illegal immigrants because I feel the majority would have come here legally if there were not so many unreasonable barriers to their entry. I do not feel that unjust laws should be enforced, so I do not believe illegals should be deported. I absolutely agree... except to say that somehow you have to enforce the law or make it such that there is no path for current illegals to citizenship, however you do that. In other words, give them a legal way through their home country to come back, and most people don't have a problem with that.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) Does punishing a child for the actions of their parents strike you as fair? I do like how you talk about people taking risks for this country but only allow for it to count for the people you like. What's "fair"? Taking trillions of dollars and handing it to people? Does punishing "wealthy people" make you happy and only count toward making you more complete? Do people who make the choice to come here illegally, knowing that they have to go through what they do and it's not legal or proper, take risks that benefit you? What the hell is that? You don't know them any different then I do, so don't go there on that judgement call.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) How far away is appropriate? Does your offense decline linearly or exponentially with distance? Personally, I don't care. But I also realize that the whole thing is a publicity stunt.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) Does arrest and deportation of 15 million people strike you as anything other than morally repugnant? Does the current situation on the border, where people are being smuggled by coyotes, dying, etc., strike you as anything but morally repugnant? Does a situation where 10 million people are working illegally with no rights, workplace safety, or guarantees of any sort strike you as morally repugnant? Sure as Hell does for me. Hmmm, does coming here with all of those risks, when they know those risks, seem morally repugnant to you? Does what happens to those same people in their own home country seem morally repugnant to you? Does instantly giving these people citizenship seem morally repugnant to you when hundreds of thousands of people died so that "citizenship" means something in this country (of course not... helps your base and further erodes the "rich power" those evil Republicans have "pushed" on you).
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) They're taking over the building of a vacant Burlington Coat Factory. And demoloshing it, and taking what will end up being hundreds of millions and turning it into a religious attention whore. THAT location is muslireligous in nature, after all. Sacred ground and all. I'm sure now I'm a scared anti-Muslim freak now.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) So...illegals cost an enormous amount, making them all legal costs an enormous amount, pretending that they're not here right now costs an enormous amount, and deporting them all costs an enormous amount. Unless you have a cost effective way to go back in time and pass comprehensive immigration reform under Reagan, I don't see how any side gets to complain about costs, because every single solution costs an abject fortune. It's a question of who's cost estimate winds up being right which option is cheaper. Instead of worrying about which option costs more, let's worry about which one is actually possible, and which one is actually anything but morally repugnant. Oh, so you get to define "morally repugnant"? Barack Obama gets to define that? Who the hell made you and him king? That's arrogant and is the main reason that respect is lacking when this comes up.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) Ames got f***ed. Worse than 93 Wow. Worse then a couple of years ago when Des Moines got hammered as well?
  15. So? They want to build a xx story humongous building and have it funded with what will end up being 9 figures at least? It's an attention scam and nothing more...
  16. First, the cost of illegals is astronomical. Then, your logic is "make them all legal", which will cost even more. No one has a problem with legal immigration, which no one on your side seems to want or care about. That always seems to get dusted into the "racist" dustpan, whisked away at a moment's convenient notice. And the way the social networks keep being pushed toward government, and the more people you want the government to take care of (the biggest redistribution of wealth scheme ever), the more and more ponzi schemeish it all becomes. Just tattoo "Democrat" on people's foreheads, because that is all big government is about: control.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Just picked up the radiotime app for my android phone since it has The Score 670. What are the odds that it won't have the Sox games streamed? I like this app, it seems to play most things. I don't know if it will check your dns when/if you're out of or in town (depending on blackout issues) or not.
  18. I find it kind of funny that when this arguement gets brought up, the disappearance of LEGAL immigration goes totally out the window, on both sides. Why is that?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Not with the database we have. This next upgrade has to convert the entire database to a different set of data. It will take probably literally forever.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) i thought George Bush did a good job post-9/11 of reaching out to Americans who are Muslim. It's certainly taken a turn for the worse lately. I give you bonus points for this post, sir. I'm glad you recognize this. Just as I'll recognize the idiocy of the far right on this one. With that said... the only reason they are building that mosque near GZ is to start exactly what this is starting and NO other reason.
  21. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 07:06 PM) Soxtalk needs a mobile site... Any web developers here? Actually, this will get done whenever we do the next upgrade... (which is after college football season because that's when everyone will be able to pitch in... the next upgrade is a f***er of an upgrade).
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Nope. (That would be a clearly unconstitutional and socialist interference with the rights of businesses to do whatever the Heck they want). Yes, they do. Starts in 2011.
  23. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) That's really sad. He lost his wife in another plane crash that he survived thirty years ago too. That is just stunning - he was in a plane crash 30 years ago, lost his wife, he survives, and then 30 years later dies in another plane crash. That is incredibly sad.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) That call is probably 20 years old now. I remember hearing it on Bob and Tom when I was in college. Geesh, you're f***ing old.
  25. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) http://techcrunch.com/2010/08/06/bill-gates-education/ Okay, so? How do you prove that you are paying attention? There has to be a measurement of success somewhere.
