That's true, but a lot of those players were from Sale/Q/Eaton dispersal moves. Those are over. I've followed the Sox for a long time and they've always struggled with the farm, except for the period from around the late 1980s to early 2000s. And not surprisingly, they were consistently good from 1990-2008 ( a few off years, but not many); and that's the only period of sustained "goodness" since the mid 60s. Maybe this is another such period -it's fair to say that the farm has produced more productive players than the rankings suggest it should. And despite all the guffaws I got in another thread, yes their 2nd round picks have sucked: leaving last few years TBD, it's Bob Wickman and Terry Forster, 2 relievers, since 1965.

They are going to have to make some decisions and moves with these guys (or others) and clear out some of the upper minors. Burger and Sheets have some value, but both are Rule 5 I think, which tempers things. And Sheets will need to play a good OF. From what I read, Burger really whacked the ball when he was up (impressing the stats guys impressing the stats guys with his exit velocities and such). Or they can keep these guys and move some of the incumbents. They'll need a 2B, OF and pitching next season.

I get why the low minor teams are terrible (#30 farm system plus a lot of really young guys among the new prospects); but Charlotte's roster doesn't look like a 26 below .500 roster.

Beating up on the Twins is always treat. Only 2 more games left in 2021 to get the licks in.

Knight's comments all over the AAP board are downright depressing and reinforce that #30.

Kath he wasn't a consensus first round talent (to some, not even a 2nd round talent). So why pay him overslot? If they think he's really a first round talent (while few others do) then that's their premium. Same with the 3rd round pick. As for rounds 5-10, they've had more success in those rounds than they've had in the 2nd (which is none in the last 20+ years, Sheets and the recent picks TBD).

Be proactive to keep up the starting pitching. Think ahead. Don't be afraid to move players early. That should keep the window perpetual.

Sox could probably move Kuechel, just in the sense of "we'll take him if the Sox keep 1/2 his salary." Offseason salary-dump with no real prospect exchanged. Sox free up cash; the other team gets a decent pitcher for $10 million, which is around his market rate I'd guess.

Yes - that's exactly what they did. I was responding, globally, to the absurdity that this gives them cushion so that the Sox should now start trading. young pitching to plug some marginal holes for this season. Crochet remains extremely valuable to this org. The Sox did the serious work in the offseason: Rodon and Lynn. Whether by fortune, scouting some of both, these are the levels of players serious contenders trade for this time of year. The Sox have a top 3 that stand against anyone.

Lock up a veteran for a couple years, and it’s time to trade away a good young player or two. That philosophy has about a 0% success rate.

Why punt picks like this when you didn't draft anyone overslot? And it's like they're not even trying with some of the punt picks.

The Sox have starting pitching issues: Lynn and Rodon after this season, then Keuchel after 22 and Giolito after 23. Yes, Kopech and hopefully Crochet will enter the rotation, but there's not a lot of depth there. Any weakness in SP will put this team into that 83-89 win purgatory. I would guess , when the farm system is ranked last (!!), there is not a lot to trade. And there is no excuse for it to be last: the Dodgers, Tribe, Astros, RedSox are neither last nor wallowed in the mire most of the last decade. The Padres wallowed, but they aren't last. And the Sox shouldn't be either. Nevertheless, the Sox have generally churned out more good players than the farm rankings would suggest they could. The glaring example was 2014-2016 talent churn, which, sadly, was completely squandered. Hopefully that (the development; not the squandering) continues. Sox can't trade a lot of farm talent to go all in this year. This rebuild and all the associated pain for a decade can't have been for just 1 or 2 years. 8 years of pain for 2-3 years of pleasure is just not the right ratio.

Actually, most of the Astros best players Are/WERE draftees. Most of the Sox' best players aren't draftees. But the draftees are currently providing a lot of depth and making it up in volume. And several of these guys contributing on the major league team are also probably part of the 30th-ranked farm system. it's all so weird.

I like Escobar too, and his price should be right; although his numbers are firming up, so if there was a discount to be had, it's probably gone. I don't know how Arizona could be so bad, but they are and they should have a clearance sale that includes any and every player.

They should make these trades for October 2021; nothing else. Frazier isn't ideal for this year October, and certainly not next year (his game in RF is what you get from Goodwin or the like). A rent would be cheaper (apparently - Heyman prices him like he's a stud); a rent is also a better fit because, as of now, the sox don't need a 2B, OF or C beyond this October. What they are going to need is pitching, as these guys start rolling off the rotation.

They also drafted Vaughn (who is going to be a great player for the Sox for years) on top of him. More of these guys should learn OF - increases their versatility, value and it's easier on the knees. That was one killer swing last night in the 9th.

It looks like he can hit; of course he could devolve into Palka too. Regardless, he clearly has skill, so why was a complete afterthought until this year; did he develop that much in 2020 where no one outside the org could see? Did the org. even know what they had?
