Scherzer will probably be worth $40 Mil per annum. He earned every nickel of that $200 mill contract with the Nats.

Semien to Rangers, 7 for $175
How so? Semien (fielding and hitting) is an elite 2B; Conforto is not an elite RF. The Sox actually have players who can cover RF pretty well. They have no one to play 2B adequately.

Robert was the best hitter on the team. Kopech and Crochet both pitched well out of the pen, which is all they were asked to do. They did step up. Vaughn was in year 1. After this long-ass rebuild, the Sox shouldn't be in a position to need him right now anyway.

That's why you sign a TOR starter. They just need a good starter; they don't absolutely need a TOR. The mere thought of Hahn trading away these young players is just freaking scary.

Pick up Kimbel's option, only to pay Segura $14 mill, when you could have Escobar for $10 mil.

Semien to Rangers, 7 for $175
He'd fit well with the Sox

All of which would suggest that they really aren't serious. I could kind of understand it if they had a viable farm system; but, no, Rick Hahn has delivered the #30 farm system. Semien signed for market price. Escobar probably for below market. Big need position and a better market than RF, the other need.

McNeil has been 1.2 WAR and .5 WAR the last 2 seasons. That's about what Engel's been, and Engel missed most of 2021. This isn't 2019 anymore. McNeil may have had his moment. What exactly is McNeil supposed to cost?

Sox to talk about Semien with Boras
A lot of the top-level right-handed hitters can also hit righties: Kris Bryant, Robert, e.g. Something to be said for more consistency. We've got Sheets for the lefty slugger role.

That would be full-circle for Rick Hahn: after selling Montas for a dime on the dollar, let's trade Vaughn to get him back. Stay away from all of these pitcher trades, unless Kimbrel is the centerpiece. And especially if the Athletics are involved.

Adam Frazier traded to Mariners
Then don't pick up his option, if moving his salary is #1 priority. If Kimbrel has real trade value, this is an opportunity for Hahn to make a clever and creative trade that could fill a hole. But that would not include some lazy deal like Kimbrel for Segura.

Sox to talk about Semien with Boras
Just speculating, he's kind of a stat-hog, he doesn't hit lefties well, and his defense isn't good. And the Met fans are probably just tired of him. I'd hope we'd find someone more athletic as well, versus he slugger-type.

Adam Frazier traded to Mariners
Who do you want? Jean Segura and his $15 million of payroll flexibility? That's how you win?

Adam Frazier traded to Mariners
Padres need a closer and now have more payroll room. Preller not shy about trading prospects. Throw in some $$ and get a couple of interesting prospects for Kimbrel. Padres went a season with Melancon - the worse good closer in MLB; Kimbrel's a big upgrade.

But that's also because the Sox traded one of the best closers in baseball for Koch. Under any level of analysis, Foulke was the superior pitcher. Koch threw hard; Foulke didn't - I guess that was it. But Williams finally got the pitching squared away and got the ring.

Adam Frazier traded to Mariners
Hoping, not expecting. When Kimbrel pitches well, which he did for much of last year, he is an elite closer. Hoping some team is willing to pay a bit for that.

Robbie Ray to the Mariners, 5 years $115 million
Ray, to, me, screams "buy high." He had a career year last year. Otherwise, he's good, not great.

Sign me up, although we need a starter too.

Seems a mite steep for Canha.

Where could Kimbrel be traded, and for what?
Well he was, wasn't he? That he is a proven elite closer, when he is pitching well, is what adds a premium to his value: when the Sox bought him, and hopefully when they sell him.

MLB top 10 or Phillies top 10? This guy kind of looks appropriate for a Kimbrel trade, either solo or perhaps the Sox would have to take Segura (not ideal).

Kendall Graveman agrees to deal w/Sox 3/$24
And they need to cover the bottom pen spots internally/scrap-heap because they have far bigger holes in SP (Keuchel is one of the 5 and they have no depth), 2B and RF. Perhaps they can take a Giants approach to the pen and look for command over Ks for the bottom spots.

I didn't think the market for Kimbrel would amount to much, but it looks like they will get something. If it's the Phillies, send us Eflin. Still young, has been pretty good, but not great; I think he's sitting on a big season.

Kendall Graveman agrees to deal w/Sox 3/$24
I do hate repeating the practices that put the Sox in a 5-year hole, and creating a hole to fill a non-hole. Anyway, what major (or non-major) hole does this fill? Maybe SP, as his gives Hahn room to move Crochet, one of the few players of real value that he could trade. Athletics, I'm sure, would be pleased with Crochet for 1 year of Bassitt, although the FO would provide them with more.

This FO loves veteran relief pitchers.
