  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) The casual fans who only root because it's their country. LOL. That's not condescending at all... I'm a casual soccer fan, and of course I'm going to root for the USA. And my hopes -- if you want to call them that -- are no higher than they were yesterday. It was a nice 'W', but quite obviously they still have a long, long way to go.
  2. All Marquette does is win. Although, if I were the odds-maker for the game at Georgetown on Saturday, I'd give MU points. I don't know if we can stop Hibbard, who went 9-for-10 in GT's game tonight. Talk about efficient...
  3. Neato. A two seed for Marquette and a first-round game at the UC. I think that's a tad optimistic, unfortunately, as the end of our conference schedule is tough with games at ND, Georgetown, and DePaul and some home games like Pitt and L'Ville. Oh, and 'Nova too. To get that two seed, I'd say that Marquette can lose two games the rest of the year, conference tourney included. More likely, I expect three losses -- an 'L' in one of the above road games, maybe an 'L' in the finale against Pitt, and since it's tough to predict any one team to win a conference tourney, an 'L' at Madison Square. Things are looking good, though. A two, three, or four seed is looking very possible.
  4. Yeah, my anger is directed at the opportunity lost last night, not in any way the Colts. If it was NE it would've been a different story, but in no way am I mad that Indy won. I probably would've rooted for them if the Saints beat us two weeks ago anyways...
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 05:22 AM) A huge, momentum switching turnover, and then a game-ending injury. The debate about who to keep at RB is going to be interesting this offseason. Based on one game? I'd love to see them split 15 carries per game, but I don't think they can coexist like that. Too much ego on both sides (or too much on one side, not sure which...), and it's a shame, because having two good backs is arguably better than one great one (unless that one is LT or LJ). I do agree with you about the Benson turnover, I'm surprised nobody has talked about it. 14-6 Bears, ball at midfield, Bears even with a field goal had a chance to get up 17-6 early, or, at the very worst, punt the ball deep in Colts territory. Worst possible time for a turnover there. One more thing on the David Carr front. If you bring him in, you're bringing in another question mark. Could he be good? I guess it could be argued either way. But you're staking a lot on him. I don't know which way the Bears should go. Maybe the right thing to do is ride it out with Rex; this was his first FULL year, and while he wasn't great, there have been worse years from guys in their first (full) season. Maybe the right thing to do is hitch your wagon to another QB ala Carr or Leftwich, although Leftwich would look to be the better choice there. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 05:24 AM) IIRC, Grossman doesn't like it. Really? Isn't that pretty much all he did at Florida, when he was, you know, one of the best QBs at his level? (I'm not directing that question at you, it's more a rhetorical thing.)
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 05:08 AM) I don't put ANY blame on the D tonight. Any D is going to give up yards to the Colts, thats obvious. However, when your Offense can't get off the field fast enough, you are going to get warn down. 3 and outs. 3 and outs. 3 and outs. No defense should be on the field that long. I'm sorry, Tony, but the defense is as much to blame as the offense. For one, the defensive line got man-handled from the instant they were on the field. I can't believe how many times I saw a Bear defensive lineman pushed five yards back by a Colt lineman. The Manning mistake on the Colts' first TD pass is inexcusable. You CAN'T do that in any game, much less the SuperBowl. Terrible time to have a mental mistake. I'm not calling for his head, I understand he's a rookie, but that was really bad. The linebacking core wasn't very good, either. Briggs played okay, but Hillenmyer and Urlacher missed their fair share of tackles. Kudos to Tillman and Vasher, who I thought contained Wayne and Harrison reasonably well. I do agree with your general point that we pissed away that game, and I think a lot of that starts with the gameplans from our coordinators. Defensively, we rarely blitzed and thought that we could get pressure with our front four, despite the fact that they were getting owned from the very beginning. Offensively, there's a lot of subtle things about Turner that bug me. Lack of a commitment to the run game. Wierd types of pass plays. Lack of the shotgun.
  7. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:44 AM) Rex is holding this team back. Hell, maybe we need to take a look at a guy like David Carr. Drafting a QB in the first round won't help, because he won't be good for 2-3 yrs and windows are short in the NFL. David Carr? GMAB. He's not the answer. Draft? Certainly not in the first round... Troy Smith in the second-third? Trade? I know that Jacksonville has Gerrard, but why have they been so quick to give up on Leftwich, a guy that they used a (4th?) top pick on? Anyone with comments on this? I know he has a cannon, but his lack of mobility could hurt us, especially in an offense where our coordinator refuses to use the shotgun, even in obvious passing situations. ---------------------------------------------------- I know it sucks for us right now, but turn on 670 and listen to Buffone and Obradovich. They're without a doubt my favorite guys on the radio, and despite their age, they actually know their stuff. Plus, you can tell that they live and die with this team just like all the rest of us. Oh, and on a positive note, Devin Hester's TD return was the greatest moment in my lifetime as a Bears fan. What an awesome start to the game, it was unreal. It has taken the spot of the Mike Brown TD return in 2001 against San Fran along with (on a funnier note) the Keith Traylor ~60 yard interception run down the sidelines in 2001.
  8. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) Is Leonard Hamilton in the wrong for holding up his index finger meaning #1 while walking off the court being yelled at by fans. Everyone that saw it on TiVo says it was for sure his index finger, but many Dook fans are sayng he was being immature. The Dook fans can give it out, but can't take it? Yeah -- I think the FSU coach (don't know who it was) got to him pretty quickly. But as close as those Duke fans are to the court, I'm sure that there's some none-too-nice words being shouted from the Dukie fans, so they shouldn't be crying if someone rubs it in once in a while. I'm not going to say Hamilton is justified in doing whatever he did, but Duke fans shouldn't say a word regardless.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 04:00 AM) Duke actually does have some solid ooc wins with Air Force, GTown and Indiana. Problem is, they had 0 true road games ooc and you just can't be rewarded for that imo. They got a real tough schedule down the stretch, we'll see what happens. Well that's what I'm saying. I thought their OOC schedule was weaker, but it actually had some pretty decent opponents on it -- didn't they also play Gonzaga at Madison Square Garden, IIRC (along with my Golden Eagles, obviously)? But as you said, no true road games, and when teams are still 'feeling it out' in the early season, being home/away can play a huge role in who ends up winning.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 03:40 AM) I think you guys have completely moved yourselves off the bubble for the time being. RPI of 19, SOS of 15 with wins over Florida, Va Tech and @ Duke. Barring a total collapse, FSU is in the tournament. Duke needs to fall a bit, too. They're barely above .500 in conference at 5-4, are facing an (almost) certain loss with an amped North Carolina team coming to Cameron, and overall, haven't been very impressive this year. Yes, I realize they only have five losses, but their OOC schedule was embarassing (mostly the lack of road games -- they had some reasonably 'tough' home games). Barring them winning the ACC Tourney, they probably shouldn't be anything above a three seed, and a four seed would maybe even be a better fit.
  11. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 02:55 AM) maybe those rex = worst super bowl QB comparisons were right I've probably been one of Rex's bigger backers around here. I'm not going to defend his performance. But you guys putting this all on Rex is embarassing. Everybody was bad. The offensive line was ass, the defensive line was ass, missed tackles all around, Ron Turner's gameplan was ass, Rivera's thinking that the front four could get pressure was ass, everything was ass.
  12. Refs helping out Duke yet again. Guy calls a T on the coach with under three minutes to go in the game? WTF is that? FSU up one...
  13. Wow Dicky V way to embarrass yourself. He was talking about tourney seeding. His top four -- Florida, Wiscy, UNC, UCLA. Fine. The first number two seed he mentions? Yep, you guessed it -- Duke. What a f***ing joke. ------------------------ Wow, tie game in Lawrence.
  14. Awesome day at the Bradley Center. The Wade ceremony at halftime -- they retired his number, for those that don't know -- was put together very well. Marquette played pretty well. The score looks close at 69-62, but Marquette had a good four-seven point lead for the majority of the game. They extended it to 13 in the second half with about six minutes to go and pretty much stopped running their offense, and as a result, Providnence went on about a 9-0 run. Dan Fitzgerald was great, 4-6 threes IIRC. James had a bad shooting night but did a nice job dishing, and McNeal was his usual a-little-out-of-control-but-still-intense self. Time for somebody else to step up and beat Pitt.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 3, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) Texas loses at home to K-State, UNC down 5 to NC State with 2 left, USC up 3 with 16 seconds left on Oregon and Ok State getting blown out by Colorado mid way through the 2nd half(wow would that be an awful loss). The past two foul calls on UNC in this game have been very ticky tack. Looks like NC State is going to pull it out.
  16. Wade gets his jersey retired today and Marquette, and the Eagles take on Providence, trying to make up for that 15 point ass-whooping from earlier in the year. Should be a packed house, too...
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 01:24 AM) It happens all the time and it's ridiculous. Once again, IU was favored in this game and for people who have watched that team play over the last few weeks, it was certainly a good possibility that they would win that game. I know you didn't rush the court cause you forgot your parachute but overall I just think rushing the floor needs to stop. The thing that gets me is that, IMO, half the kids rushing the floor are doing it with wrong intentions, ie wanting to get on TV, wanting to get on the floor so they can tell their douchebag friends later that night that they stood within five feet of Dominic James or whoever the player may be. Sure, there's a good portion of the kids who are doing it because they're pumped over a big 'W', but there's also a good portion just doing it as part of a.)groupthink, b.)because they're drunk, c.)because they want to get on TV and act like an idiot. Also, someone needs to tell me how RPI works. Wisconsin and Duke -- arguably the two best opponents Marquette has played this season (well, Pitt is probably better than Duke) -- just lost on back to back nights. How much will that hurt the ole RPI?
  18. Stanford/Gonzaga going to double OT after a Stanford player buried a three with about 16 seconds left to tie it up...
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 01:19 AM) Well, the big question is...do you want an outfielder to back up Anderson or do you want an outfielder to back up/Platoon with Podsednik? I think the organization answered, at least at some level, that question by which one they picked. But yeah, I would also add that Kenny's history of liking Erstad and his "intangibles" and so forth probably played into that choice also. My gripe isn't Erstad over Wilson -- it's Podsednik over Wilson. Wilson probably wanted to stay in St Louis, but the Sox could have doubled St Louis offer of $1 million and STILL paid less for Erstad + Wilson than Podsednik @ $2.9 million. I think the Sox also could have offered a reasonable amount of playing time; he'd be playing everyday against lefties (either at DH or LF), and could occasionally spell Dye in RF too. Really, I think Wilson could make the team a win or two better than Podsednik, and a one year deal would have in no way screwed over the future of Sweeney or Fields out there.
  20. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) I hate you... The road game at DePaul is going to be a toughie, even though I didn't list it. I know the DePaul season hasn't been 'ideal', but I still think they're capable of beating anyone in this conference if they play to their potential on any given night. Are you gonna be at that February (13th? 14th? It's a Wednesday game, I know that) game?
  21. Wow -- Marquette a #3 in that latest Bracketology. There's still a lot of time left in BE play, though -- eight more games, with some real toughies at Georgetown, along with Pitt coming to the BC.
  22. Heh -- didn't see that OJ Mayo thing until PTI brought it up...
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 12:43 AM) Man, we barely beat an inferior opponent in MSU and somehow go up in the rankings? How does this thing even work? I dunno, but it's the same thing with Marquette. Of their winning streak, the USF victory Sunday was the worst game they played (they probably should have lost), yet the Coaches Poll moves 'em up from 20 to 15. I guess it has more to do with other teams losing, but...
  24. Nothing up on YouTube yet. Hopefully somebody'll put it on there in the coming week...
  25. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 05:13 AM) I think it's close, but he's going to want atleast 5 with an option for the 6th, perhaps either a player option or a vesting team option with like 1000 innings or something very achievable. Say 5/$75 with an $18 mill option for the last year. That would mean that Garland would (most likely) be gone after 2008. If we were forced to keep just one of the two, I'd keep Garland. Why? I think he'd get less money on the open market, and while he might not ever dominate the way Buehrle did, I think he's as good a bet as anyone to stay healthy and average-ish over the life of a five year contract.
