  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) How so? I'm trying to back up an argument. You cant be serious... If you don't think your tone is arrogant and snotty, then I really have no need of talking to you. You're clearly passionate about soccer, which is perfectly fine, but you don't have to be an ass about it either.
  2. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 02:10 AM) On a side note, im not really a basketball rules guy so what are you exactly allowed to do boxing out? I was always taught that pretty much everything is 'fair game' in boxing out. So long as you don't use your hands to grab the player and hold him behind you, no foul should be called. Obviously if you intentfully undercut someone you're probably going to get whistled, or if you take out the shooter in a rough way (or if you hit him before he hits the ground from his shot).

    Summer Movies 2007

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 02:21 AM) Yeah, it was right along with Hellboy and Sin City for me. I hated them all. Wow, you're honestly one of the first person I've seen/heard who didn't like Sin City. I loved that movie...
  4. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) We all know he has the talent. As a punter?
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) And there comes a point where "overpaying" becomes a necessity, like when player contracts are running out and your minor league system is one of the worst in baseball and in possibly the worst shape in team history. Out of this group, who should the Sox be looking to overpay? I think him including Iguchi in there is just posturing. The market for second basemen isn't good at all. Adam Kennedy and Marcus Giles just signed contracts, and neither got a contract of a better annual value than $4 million per year. Unless Iguchi has a crazy good year with the bat, I can't see him getting more than $5 million per year. Jermaine Dye will probably get paid by somebody, but is he the kind of guy you want to sign for 4-5 years? He's looking at his last big contract, so I doubt a three year deal would lock him up. He's also on his way to becoming a DH -- he just seems slower and slower in the field every year. He'll be 33 before the season starts, and is coming off of his best year ever by a long shot. I mean, his OPS in 2006 was close to 200 points better than his career OPS. You could make the argument for Buehrle if he's able to bounce back to his pre-July-2006 form, but even then, his way of 'getting by' is more of an exception than a rule. And I can see a scenario where the Sox -- with this new plethora of minor league pitching talent* -- are saving for the time when Johan Santana hits the market. Because I'd say the odds of it happening are extremely strong. And if the Sox can have two-three of these pitching prospects pan out, they'll certainly be able to afford giving Johan $20 million per year.
  6. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 04:11 AM) Did anyone see the end of the Louisville-Marquette game? Couldn't ask for anything more in that game. Padgett had three fouls within the first three minutes of the game and, because of the foul trouble, was more or less silent the whole game. We shot pretty well, around 48% from the field. But those damn free throws. Up four with 30 seconds left, McNeal misses the front end of a 1-and-1. They go down, bury a three. We go down and hit 1-of-2 from the line, and their player goes coast-to-coast to make an EASY layup to tie up the game. Dominic James gets to the free throw line with five-and-a-half second left, hits the second free throw... and... they go down and hit a three in McNeal's face with less than a second left. Kudos to Louisville. That's three in a row for Marquette with no 'easy' games left... Wouldn't surprise me at all for Marquette to drop all three and fade into oblivion for the rest of the post-season.
  7. As a casual fan, I'd love to see this. Yes, I understand that these guys are past their primes, but still, I'd rather watch "superstars" on the decline than 'mediocre' players on the rise. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way...
  8. QUOTE(SnB @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 02:13 AM) I don't think our hats are all that terrible. But i did love the old ones. I have one of them and it's the only sox hat I'll wear. It's over 4 years old, never been washed and pretty much disgusts everyone. It's my baby. My 2001 Bears hat >>>>>> your hat.
  9. We need a Spring Training Catch All this year. The Sox Ps and Cs report tomorrow, right? Up in Milwaukee, I don't hear enough Sox talk...
  10. Yuck. 11-21 from the line tonight was where the game was lost. Oh, and Dominic James shooting two threes in the final 45 seconds, both coming from about three feet beyond the arc. A real shame, too, MU fans packed AllState. Virtually everyone in the UD was in gold and there was a big spralling of gold in the LD, too. Drunk morons in front of us, crappy All-State arena parking, and a bad game makes Keith unhappy.
  11. Traveling down from Marquette to see my Eagles take on DePaul. Can't wait to see half of All-State in gold...
  12. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 02:35 AM) but...but..but.. OUR SCOUTS LIKED WHAT THEY SAW IN FLOYD! They scout the player, not the stats, you know. Williams will do whatever possible to receive his players. That about covers the excuses I heard. Too bad they couldn't scout Fabio Castro and reacquire him. Oh God no, Philly scouts mocking the Sox?!?!?!?! What ever will we do? I wonder if those were the same scouts who liked Adam Eaton enough to give him $24 million dollars. Or the same scouts that liked that 'awesome' package of players they received for Bobby Abreu.
  13. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 06:49 AM) I would love KU to get the 2 with Pitt as a 3. They have the most obvious gameplan...if you zone them, they crack. I honestly don't think Pitt gets a three. I would assume that your thinking is that Pitt will get the best seed out of the Big East, and at this point, I doubt that will be the case. They still have games left at Marquette and at Georgetown (one of the better teams currently in the country, BTW -- they've won eight in a row, and seven have come in double digit wins with the 8th being an eight point W at Louisville), and they'll be lucky to escape with one win in those games, much less two. Big East wise, I think Georgetown will end up getting the best seed (a #2 if they run the table, a #3 if they lose one the rest of the conference schedule) with Marquette following up with a #3-4, and Pitt with a #4-5.
  14. OMG! Two references in the third person from Big Z! I love it! And -- Zito money? Don't set the bar so low. You're a couple years younger than the other Z and have stuff that's much nastier than Zito's. $125 million should be a starting point, not "what you're looking for". All I ask is that, if Zambrano does end up resigning with the Cubbies, he takes that team over the barrel. I'm talking 7/$150. Make that team pay for handing out such a large contract to Soriano...
  15. Pitt is getting killed by Louisville. Pitt is playing awful... turning the ball over about every other possession, not handling the slightest bit of pressure that Patino (sp?) is throwing at them. The Pitt loss will put G'Town and Pitt in a tie atop the BE. I think Georgetown is the best team in the BE, and wouldn't be surprised at all if they get a higher seed than both Marquette and Pitt. Hibbard and Green are quite the tandem, and their guards do a good job of managing the game.
  16. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 12:43 AM) Perez doesn't hardly add more with his bat than Pablo does with his bat. Then, take into account Pablo's speed, ability to play positions in the field that are not first base, and being our only right handed backup outfielder. Ozuna's only real plus at this point is his speed. He's third (or worse) on the depth chart at every position as of right now -- behind Cintron at 2B and SS, behind Mackowiak and Cintron at 3B, behind Erstad and Mackowiak at all the OF spots. Plus, while their OPS' vs lefties were similar last year, I'd venture to guess that Perez' is more sustainable than Ozuna's. Afterall, Ozuna really wasn't a good player for the Sox past July -- in his final 103 ABs, he put up a .247/.284/.371 line. Then again, if it were up to me, Ozuna wouldn't be the one packing -- Podsednik would be. He's so useless to the team at this point.
  17. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Find me a better perimeter defenders than Chalmers and Robinson...ill give them that. Jerel McNeal. But seriously... Jerel McNeal.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) There's no chance that they trade/release Pablo. If anything, I could see them trading Mackowiak. I think the only chance Perez makes the opening day roster is if Pods is on the DL. Really, that should be the answer. Is there anybody who doubts that an Erstad/Mackowiak/Perez platoon -- and later in the season, perhaps Fields and/or Sweeney -- couldn't do better than Podsednik? Podsednik becomes quite useless with this signing. He's more or less relegated to one position; he'd be a disaster in center and is third (fourth if Mack is before him) on the depth chart there, his arm is waaaaay too weak for RF, and he's only a bit above average in LF. Perez can play first and probably fake a LFer -- but that really wouldn't be a big problem so long as he continued with his lefty mashing ability. Damn... I'd love to see the Sox ditch Podsednik and his ~$3 million for a live arm.
  19. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) They were one of the worst Super Bowl teams in the history of the event. No other team has come out and been as embarrassing as this years Bears team since the '85 Patriots. It's been discussed that nearly all teams that made the AFC Playoffs would have been beaten the Bears; outside of Kansas City, I might agree. The Bears are who I thought they were. A team that was successful in the worst division in the league and also the worst conference in the league. I hope that if you ever wonder why a majority of the posters here have an ill perception of you, you go back and look at this post. I mean, I know the Pats killed the Bears... err, wait, they didn't. They beat them by four... on their homefield. Please... get a clue.
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) This is ultimately what I'm hoping for, as well. Too bad our relationship with Boras is sour. Trading Crede next offseason and attempting to sign Rodriguez would have been an interesting proposition. I'm not sure how he would react to trading one of his clients only to sign another, but I'm sure he'd forget quickly if 160mil over 8 years was thrown at Rodriguez. A-Rod would be worth big money for a couple of reasons. First, the pressure here sure seems to be a helluva lot less than in NY. Second, he looks like he's in great shape physically, so while you wouldn't be getting his prime years, I don't think he's someone who will break down. And lastly, you're looking at some milestones down the road. He'll probably hit 500 this year, but 600 and most likely 700 will come in his next contract. That, of course, added onto the fact that he's going to go down as one of the 25 (or so) greatest players in the history of baseball, and even when he does start dropping off, his dropoff years will still be damn good.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Don't know about any of you, but I'm not going to accept this "OMG, teh market" if we're competitive with a 100+ million dollar payroll. Williams has assembled possible alternatives for our pitchers. Few are available for positional players -- especially infielders. I took this as a possibility that money would be spent if it were deemed necessary. From your comments, Steff, I guess not. We'll have to see. I think they'll spend the money -- ie, big money -- to a guy they feel actually deserves it. More than the contracts themselves, look at the players who got those big types of deals. Who was the best player who got signed on the FA market? Probably Soriano. Paul Konerko had a very similar offensive season to Soriano. Of course, Konerko's done it two years running now whereas Soriano hasn't put up those numbers since 2003. What i'm getting at is that nobody signed this winter was a star, save for maybe Matsuzaka (very arguable -- bear with me), and I can't see anyone complaining that the Sox didn't pay a combined ~$110 million for him. When Cabrera hits the market in the 2008-2009 offseason (maybe it's 2009-'10 winter), someone will be paying for his prime years. That type of player is worth it, especially if you can get Ozzie to have a little talk with Miggy about making a couple less trips to the buffet tables. Even so, however, Thome will be finishing his contract by then, so you can sign Cabrera and let him DH a bit. Hopefully we can get lucky and have our three top position prospects work out (to a reasonable extent, at least) so that there will be a ton of money to spend on a superstar like Miggy.
  22. Okay, all things considered, I'll take only being down two at half. Our "star" has been brutal -- he needs to wake-up in the second half -- and McNeal's energy at the defensive end is missed. Really, I don't know how they're within two. Probably because Hibbert and GT have missed some bunnies down low.
  23. Don't crucify me, but -- realize I'm asking this as a kid who has never played a game of soccer in his life and is an extreme casual fan -- is the term 'marking' defending or is it passing?
