Ugh. I haven't seen that clip, but the same thing happened to a teammate of mine freshman year of high school. We were doing a 3-on-3 drill, and as I looked back to my helpside defender to let him know I had the ball (defensively speaking), he was on the ground, and if you can imagine it (you might not want to), his kneecap 'bulge' was to the outside part of his knee. Absolutely disgusting... -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 01:10 AM) Imagine the Cameron Crazies times 5...thats a soccer match. College basketball....lol. Here we go again...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 11:33 PM) Is King any good? Or is this more a deal for the draft pick? More for the pick. Apparently Vancouver has two second round picks -- one is LA's, the other is theirs. The difference between the picks is about 15 slots (at the very least), with LA's being in the 30s and Vancouver's being in the 50s. So that'll be a big deal, which pick it was. Because King was included (not that he's anything special), I'd guess it's the later pick, but that's just me speculating.

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) I've been saying the same stuff about Floyd since we traded for him. I haven't heard one positive thing about him over the past year from anyone not associated with the White Sox. Sickels more or less had the same comments about Floyd that KW had regarding his AFL performance. Poor numbers but a good showing of 'stuff'. Dunno how much weight you put on Sickels' evaluations, but... Agreed, but you should be used to it by now. Plus, he is a pretty good pitching coach, even if overrated around these parts. His list of 'pluses' are a lot longer than his list of 'minuses'.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) As for my pessimism, that stems from the loomimg shadow of Pods and Erstad starting and hitting 1-2. The trib already quoted Ozzie as saying he was leaning to starting Ozuna and Erstad in the OF against Sabathia. That implies to me that BA isn't even in the platoon picture right now, and is probably headed to AAA. I don't see any other backup CF option besides Terrero in that case. Who know what will happen, but I'm not happy with hoow the OF looks right now. I would assume that means Ozuna at 2B and Erstad in LF. At this point, I don't think they're even considering Podsednik being ready for the opener against Sabathia. And yes, I realize that's not ideal. You'd hope that Perez will get a chance to repeat his opening day of last year, this time for us. Ozuna vs Iguchi at 2B on opening day? I don't really care... Let's see how Iguchi fares against lefties in Spring Training. I don't like using ST stats to justify something like that, but it's only one start, and maybe the ~30 ABs Iguchi gets against lefties will give us some clue as to how he's seeing them -- hopefully more 2005 (.812 OPS vs lefties) than 2006 (.728). -
Anyone buy the game yet or download the demo on X-Box Live? Early reactions?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) He's had almost 3 seasons to make this team a playoff team, and we're no closer to that goal than when he first came into the job. Three seasons? He took over in the offseason prior to the 2005-2006 campaign. He had his hand in some moves prior to then, but it wasn't official until then. That's not even two full seasons. His main job as of right now is to build through the farm system. He's done an excellent job of that. The team he inherited from Mike Smith was full of old vets and some top-end prospects who didn't pan out (Vorobiev, Babchuk, Yakubov). Please tell me how he was supposed to craft that into a playoff contender in just two seasons? Please do. Again, I'm not saying all of his moves have been perfect, but I have no idea how you can come to this conclusion: I'd love to see that list, if only to have something to giggle at for the remainder of the day. If you came into this season 'expecting' playoffs, your vision was diluted. We have two top six forwards and a young, developing defence whose best prospect (Barker) wasn't even up here from the beginning of the year. I'm sure you're thinking, "Well, whose job is it to acquire those top six forwards?" And my response is that Tallon more or less did his best in trying to acquire those guys. He offered bigger contracts to Forsberg and Modano. Last winter, I doubt the Hawks could've afforded another contract of a top six forward with the cap. The life of this franchise -- the life of Dale Tallon -- they both rest upon the shoulders of guys, several of which aren't even on the team or have been on the team a very short time. Guys like Havlat, Barker, Toews, Skille. Those guys will make or break the Hawks for the next decade.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 08:11 AM) Bad loss, but realistically, Ben has gotta make that shot at the horn if he wants to be a big time player and this team wants to be a legit title contender. I was more pissed at the possession two times before that, where Duhon felt it necessary to come down and try and hit a three from the top of the key. Sure, we tied it up on the very next possession, but it was a terrible shot. Open, sure, but for one, it wasn't what you would call 'wide-open' and two Duhon's not 'the guy' in those situations. Develop quicker, Thabo! -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 06:40 AM) In my opinion, Anderson's defense is overrated. Both Scott Gregor and Greg Couch wrote articles saying that people assumed Anderson had good defense just because he couldn't hit. Gregor specifically mentioned Anderson had difficulty going back on balls straight at him. I trust a beat writer's opinion on that, since he saw way more games in person than I did. I admit, I thought Anderson looked good in the field, but I'm no scout and I think it's possible BA just looked good to me in comparison to Mack. So, pretty much, you think Anderson is a mediocre defender because beat writers say so? These are the same beat writers that think Scott Podsednik is a good baseball player. These are the same beat writers that believe we won it all in 2005 because of 'Ozzieball', because we bunted and 'did the little things'. If Anderson was above average at the ASB and average in the 2nd half of the season, wouldn't that still round out to an above average defender, if only slightly? You don't give yourself, and more importantly, Sox fans. Anderson rated highest in Tango Tiger's 'Fans Scouting Report'. Everybody saw that he got very good reads on the ball (damn well considering it was his first year at USCF), and everybody saw that he was very good at balls hit in front of him. Sure, he had his flaws out there -- particularly going back on deep balls, but I'm not insinuating that he's Carlos Beltran out there. He has his flaws, I admit that, but there also has to be a reason why Darin Erstad has been in CF for all of 27 of the last 416 games he's been in, even if the only reason is injuries. These two statements contradict each other. If they take two years to give meaningful results, why are you making a judgement? Also, I'd like to see more systems, not just one. How did he rank in UZR? How did he rank at Baseball Musings (I believe that's the site)? How did he rank in Dewan's "Fielding Bible"? ZR? I'm pretty sure that he'd come out slighly-above-average-to-very-good in most of these systems. Yikes... this offseason has turned you quite pessimistic. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 04:20 AM) You're a Marquette fan....is Dom James going pro? It's a love/hate thing with Dominic. I love him because he's so immensely talented, and if he left, there's nobody on the squad who can come close to filling the hole he'll leave. But he also does some things -- mainly, shoot too much -- which hurts the team at times. At times he thinks he's a great dribble-and-pull-up three point shooter, when in reality, he's really bad from beyond the ark. Then again, McNeal gets in foul trouble often, and Wes Matthews isn't very assertive -- and I'm sure you know how dismal Marquette's post-men are -- so at times, it's almost a must that he create his own opportunity and try and finish. But I'm not answering your question with what I posted above. Will he go pro? The general people in this thread could probably tell you as much as I could. I can't see how going pro would be beneficial to him. He wouldn't go in the top 10, and it's a stretch to say he'll go in the top 20. If you're not even being considered a lottery pick (I can't see him being a top 15 player), why would it be beneficial for him to go pro? It's a tough question to answer, and I'm dancing around giving you a definitive answer. Personally, I know he hurts MU with his shot selection sometimes, but I want him to stay another year. Marquette doesn't lose any seniors of note next year, and nobody else is going to jump early to the draft. Him coming back or going pro is probably the difference between a top 10 team and a top 20 team. So, I'll tentatively say no, he won't go pro. But in the case that he gets hot as s*** and Marquette makes an Elite 8 run, then I think he's as good as gone, because he'd probably be a big reason why MU is there. -

Haha Jimbo, go ahead and post that whole article. That dude's a f***ing hack. Real, real ignorant to say that the OSU/Wisconsin game wasn't 'good' or 'fun' (however he described it). That ass also took an unneccessary shot at Butch. -

Thanks fellers. BTW, Justin, I need some advice on SIU in College Hoops. Some of their guys don't seem to be rated properly, and I like adjusting 'em to make their ratings a little more semi-realistic. So you might get a PM in the next couple days. -

When do most of the league toureys start? This week? I know the BE tourney doesn't start until next Monday because MU plays Pitt this Saturday. So -- the next two weeks, I assume, are conference tourneys? Anyone have a breakdown, ie which ones are this week and which are next week? -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Yep, I've really lost faith in Tallon as a GM now, after some of the moves he's made. e.g signing LaPointe, trading for Salm. You mean moves that happened over two years ago, or over a year ago in Salm's case? Yet it's right now that you've lost faith in Tallon? That offseason of Lapointe, Barnaby, and Cullimore wasn't good. From the length of the contract to the amount of money involved, it was an unneccessary 'splurging' of money just for the sake of spending money. They thought that getting the team more 'gritty' was bigger than improving the skill of the team. Then again, I don't think that's correct either... They offered bigger contracts to Modano and Forsberg but those two still signed elsewhere. Whatever the case was, they were bad contracts at the time they were signed and they're bad now. They're very tough to unload, too, because in the NHL, you can't eat salary in a trade. Getting back to the point, though, Tallon's main job is to build the farm system and not sacrifice it for a short-term gain. He's done that so far. I know I've been spouting this for a while, but I'm really looking forward to next year. Toews, Skille, and Barker on the roster from day one. (Hopefully) a healthy, resigned Handzus. Ruutu with a healthy summer and preseason. And hey, the Hawks might land a top six forward in free agency.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) I'd be absolutely stunned if a healthy Erstad was worse than a healthy Anderson...STUNNED. Why? At this point in their careers, Anderson is the better defender. In Erstad's last 700 ABs, he's hitting at about a .265/.320/.365 line. One player is coming off of a solid minor league career and a bad ~350 ABs, while the other will turn 33 in June. Erstad's offensive ceiling is extremely limited. Compared to last year, Anderson has a lt of potential. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) Anderson sucked against righties and lefties, its not like he's Eduardo Perez against left handed pitching. I'm sick of the ridiculous love BA gets on this board. The guy was one of the most awful every day starters as a rookie as I've seen in a long time (from the offensive perspective). I'm sick of the love Darin Erstad gets on this board. The guy isn't good, and is living off of one good year. If he has a good Spring Training, it means he's our starting CFer, and that sucks. If given equal opportunity this year, Anderson would outplay Erstad by quite a bit when taking into account both offense and defense. -

I'm glad the refs have come to play for ND today. 14 fouls on Marquette, three on McNeal, Matthews, and Hayward. f***ing awful. Absolutely f***ing awful... -
Anyone else watching PTI? If so, did TK just call Wilbon a 'homo'?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) They did make the elite 8, I'm sure there were many factors that 'blew apart your bracket' rather than an elite 8 team that didn't make the final four. Memphis is good, very good. They have athletes all over the floor, they can go down low and they can shoot, not to mention that they're terrific defensively. Regardless, it's still hard to judge a team that plays against such weak competition. Where would C-USA rank among conference in America? Does it even crack the top ten? I'm in no way speaking 'ill' of Memphis, I'm just saying it's hard to tell how great they really are. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 06:29 AM) Neither do I. This is merely my way of having something to complain about prior to the season. I wouldn't want it any other way...
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 06:03 AM) I'd believe 5'9-5'10, but not because of the picture. -Aardsma is striding off the ground -Gonzalez is bent slightly -Gonzalez is probably a foot, foot and a half behind Aarsdma. They can't be judged on an equal plane. Even with this, you're fairly close to the true height. If he's popping his fastball consistently at 91-93 and still has that nasty hook that I saw in his scouting video, I don't care if he's 5'1.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 05:15 AM) Watching the Hawks listlessly lose 2-0 to the Sharks at the UC is not a good bang for the buck. In Toews/Skille we trust. This is about the time of year the 'depression' usually hits in for me. Seeing teams battle for playoff spots, seeing some great hockey, seeing fans pack the stadium... fun times, hopefully we'll have that soon enough. But it's a double depression, especially when Washington goes up against Pittsburg. Again, no disrespect intended towards Cam Barker, Jack Skille, and Jonathan Toews, but... Jordan Staal... Evgenei (sp) Malkin... Sidney Crosby... All three on the same PP line... And then on the other side, Alex Ovechkin. And to know that the Hawks were about, on average, two picks away from grabbing any one of them. I'm not that mad -- I think Toews could end up being the best offensive player in the 2006 draft, but damn... why the f*** did Washington have to jump us in the 2004 draft? Not fair. Speaking of which -- how has Cam Barker looked in his time up here? Comments from anyone and everyone would be appreciated...

Now I know why everybody hates Duke. Doris Burke comes on with a sideline report about how Coach K is really ragging on the officials and Josh McRoberts is giving his crybaby face and is all wah-wah about how the refs won't give the poor Dukies a call. Next couple of whistles... -Offensive goaltending on Clemson -- ball clearly OUT of the cylindar. -Offensive foul on Clemson -- questionable call at best. -Traveling on Clemson -- apparently a one-two stop in the lane is a foul, not Scheyer coming in and attempting to take a charge (while bumping the offensive player). I should be rooting for them -- afterall, any Duke win is good for Marquette -- but I can't bring myself to do it.
