  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) USC just pummeling Texas. Guess we should've took your word... : /
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) I meant that they would rival each other as two of the best lefty combos in the al central. Sowers - Miller Sabathia and Miller - Ledezma are/will probably be better. Is that a changeup from Floyd? Impressive. Nice change-of-pace and good movement down.
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Gio is going to be a stud, IMO. I think Danks & Gio are going to make a great 1-2 lefty punch, like Santana and Lirano. Umm... yeah, I'll just leave that alone.
  4. Okay -- Gavin rebounded nicely. The Bard double was right down the middle, but the Greene double wasn't terrible. It was hit hard, but it was a decent pitch -- probably should've gotten it in a little more. He has good movement on his pitches -- nasty slider to Kouzmanhoff and also ran a fastball in on his hands that looked good -- but he doesn't attack the zone the way Danks does.
  5. Nice series to Kouzmanoff there. Fell behind 1-0, but came back -- ran a fastball in that Kouz couldn't hould up on and then a nasty slider in the dirt for strike three.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) This umpire sucks, and his strikezone is about the size of pea. That shouldn't be an excuse, but damn. are you kidding me? This strikezone is horrible. For Wells, Danks, and Floyd Ehh -- I'm only watching when the Sox are on defense. Danks didn't seem to have too much problems with the zone -- no walks. I'll concentrate on the zone a bit more this inning.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) It's hard to do, especially with Farmer and Singleton talking about beer batters, but it sounds like Danks and now Floyd are just missing with these pitches. Doesn't sound like the best strike zone. I'm watching on MLBtv (as I'm sure others are) -- the strike zone is fine. Danks didn't walk anyone. Floyd has good movement on his fastball and on his breaking pitches, but he's not finding the zone.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) It's obvious Danks wasn't fooling anyone the second time around with a major league lineup. Are you watching the game or are you just saying that cause his overall 'line' looked bad? The ball is carrying today. His changeup was fooling guys all game. He left a couple of pitches up and got hurt from it, ie that Kouzmanhoff double.
  9. Branyan hits a 1-2 fastball on the outside part of the plate for a homer. I'm not too mad about that -- pretty decent pitch, low and on the outside corner, might've caught a bit too much plate, but the ball also carried a bit.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) Andy Marte I thought V-Mart was going to play more first with Shoppach behind the plate.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 09:09 PM) Now it's off again, I can't believe this. We can't watch the last 3 minutes because we need to watch the first 5 of Memphis-Nevada? Hop on NCAA-MMOD. It's a bit behind the TV so you should catch what you missed.
  12. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) How does his fastball look? It's tough to read the gun, but I think he's sitting in the high-80s. Seems to have some decent downward movement, but I'd like to see what Cerb has to say. Also, Cerb -- is it just me or is he throwing a cutter/sinker that's around 80-81 MPH?
  13. It's pretty much my fault for turning another thread (this one) into a Erstad bash/Anderson "love" (I use quotes because it isn't really love, just that we want him to get more respect from the organization). I'll stop with the Erstad bashing for a bit. I think I've become an annoying broken record.
  14. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 01:23 AM) The question is, how bad is he hurt and how does this affect his chances of making the club now? And most importantly, how does this affect the White Sox opening day roster? My apologies -- I sort of derailed the thread a bit. And I understand about ST stats -- believe me, I'm not even going to go into that. But Ozzie seems to want to put a job on the line by how people do during ST, and so far, Anderson has been better.
  15. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 12:59 AM) Brian Anderson has the potential to be a good player, but after watching him at the plate Thursday and again today, it's obvious he's not quite major league ready yet. He keeps jumping back at every strike over the inside part of the plate and the opposition is beginning to pound him inside pitch after pitch. He looked silly on that swing on which he hurt himself today. And yet, silliness aside, he's hitting .276/.353/.448 in Arizona -- better than Grinder can say. I think what Brian needs is some 'moxie'. Or some 'swagger'. Maybe then he'll be embraced.
  16. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) Ozzie's career record says otherwise, too. So what. With good pitching, you don't need to sit on 3 run homers, because they may never come...then again, Weaver also preached fundamentals -- which in that era of the game consisted of base stealing and bunting properly , too. I personally think he tacked on the 3-run homer thing as a joke...because it makes me laugh. And which of these does Podsednik do well, again? He's an average base stealer with a ~69% success rate the past two seasons, and that doesn't take into account pick-offs. So he's really not helping the Sox over the long run. And Podsednik isn't a very good bunter, too, which is funny -- fast guys who can do nothing but hit a bunch of singles and run fast are supposed to be the best bunters. There's several guys on the Sox who I'd rather have put down a bunt than Pods -- that's pretty pathetic. Oh, and lemme know when Ozzie gets past year ten. Just a bit of a difference 500 games to 2500 games...
  17. Erstad is having a spring very similar to what I expect during the regular season. Coming into today, he was putting up a .317/.349/.390 line. If he gets lucky with his BAPIP, I think he could do something like this during the season -- very empty batting average, very few walks, but hey -- if he's hitting a lot of singles and is getting a little lucky, more power to him. The more realistic scenario is where he hits .270-.300, and, because he doesn't walk, his OBP falls to .320-.340. But he'll be 'grinding' out those singles, so all will be well in Ozzie's playhouse.
  18. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Me. I never noticed this, but it's ironic that you have that Earl Weaver quote in your sig yet are a Podsednik lover, seeing that Pods contributes to absolutely none of those.
  19. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) I wish they would have won, but atleast they showed up and gave a much higher seed a really tough time. Maybe if the Big 10 had gotten more respect Illinois gets a better first round match up and wins. That was pretty much a perfect matchup for UofI. That team was very undisciplined, and U of I and their defense were able to take advantage for the first 30+ minutes. If the Illini adjusted AT ALL offensively in the second part of the second half they would've won comfortably.
  20. Time for Texas to take the ball right at Tucker. He's got three.
  21. QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) but win-win for us. he plays balls to the wall then he'll be damn good to start the year - then he'll hurt himself and we'll have anderson up who will show he shoulda been here all along. The thing is, I think Erstad is perfect for us if he were to be used correctly -- as the fourth OFer. Or hell, even as our starting left-fielder. Remove Podsednik from the picture and everything is perfect. Eduardo Perez makes the team. Mackowiak is the backup corner OFer. Erstad backs up Anderson in center. Everything comes up roses.
  22. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) "The defense up the middle with Uribe and Erstad really will help us out." That's such bulls*** too. Call Anderson all you want on his offense, but there weren't many defenders better than him last year in center. If Erstad plays his balls-to-the-wall way, he's going to get hurt. If he pulls it back a little bit, he's going to be a worse player because of it. It's a lose-lose situation -- for him.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Call me crazy but I thought it was good that he was willing to bunt in his first game back. Plus I think he should bunt more anyway. Than again I'm far from a so called money ball guy. Yeah, I know he's trying to work on it so it's actually working once the season gets here. It was more a snarky comment than anything...
  24. Mercifully the Tennessee/LBST game ends -- final point total of 207.
