  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:08 AM) 6 IP (I think), and 4 R (3 ER)... that is a quality start, and he put his team in a good position to succeed. You're talking about a prospect here, not a starting pitcher who has already established himself. Excuse me if I'm not encouraged by a start where Floyd is giving up two baserunners per inning.
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 02:56 AM) Looks like Floyd settled down a bit, and had a good overall outing. Lopez and Fields both had good break out games at the plate today, which was good. Eleven hits and three walks is a "good overall outing"? Hah, shows what I know...
  3. I'd be a fan of the Bulls drafting Hibbert as an 'heir' to Ben Wallace. I don't think he's ever going to be a great big man, but I think he can be a pretty good one. He's really improved his post-game over the past couple years as well -- he's developed a very nice hook shot, and when he's up against a mismatch, he understands that all he has to do is overpower the guy and use that dropstep. The Bulls could obviously use a long-term center, and drafting another forward wouldn't seem to make sense. Ditto a guard, as they're pretty deep in #2/3 types.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) If we had a sandwich pick or two I'd be willing to select Tolisano. Since we don't, it should be between Aumont, Robles, and Peavy. Although I doubt Aumont will be available around #25. Are any of these guys Boras clients? Or is that still to be determined? Hopefully acquiring Danks means turning the page on the whole "not drafting Boras guys in the first round" for the Sox, but I still have my doubts.
  5. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) I can tell you this early, judging from mock drafts, that I'd select either Tanner Robbles or Greg Peavy. This is if the draft were today; which it isn't. I'm sure the names will change (Cole St. Clair was rated #2 overall in an earlier Scout.com draft, and look how he's fallen). One name I'd hope beyond all hope falls to the White Sox is Phillippe Aumont. From what I'm reading, this guy has legitimate stuff; albeit a little raw. If we end up missing him by several positions I'll curse the White Sox for winning 90 games. 86 wins could have been the difference between selecting 20th and 25th, and wouldn't have changed anything about the club entering this season. I really think the system needs a tweak. That's bulls*** that the Cardinals get to go to the playoffs AND are allowed to pick before the Sox. The eight playoff teams should hold spots 23-30. I was really pissed when I found that it just goes by record.

QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 02:14 AM) us.imdb.com: Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is planning to re-release Grindhouse as two separate films - after the double-bill flopped at the box office. The film, a double-feature directed by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez made just $11.6 million in its opening weekend in the US. Producer Weinstein is disappointed - and thinks Tarantino's Death Proof, starring Kurt Russell, and Rodriguez' Planet Terror, with Rose McGowan, will perform better on their own. He tells PageSix.com, "I don't think people understood what we were doing. The audience didn't get the idea that it is two movies for the price of one. I don't understand the math, but I want to accommodate the audience." Bad idea, IMO. When are they going to start doing this? I thought they were only doing this in other countries but not the U.S. Grr... People just gotta see that Blades of Glory movie. Pisses me off, too, because there's really no doubt in my mind that Grindhouse is the better movie. BoG looks a helluva a lot like Talledega Nights only with the 'skating' twist to it.
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) Joel 'Zambraya' hit 102 on the gun tonight....in case you care. Heh -- no velocity problems for Tigers pitching...
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Even Roto had a little blurb about Day. I don't know where Day fits in just about yet. Everyone has done well in the early going for the Sox. The back-three, who most people thought were going to struggle, have shown well in the early going. That's not to say it's going to last, but it might -- Aardsma showed this type of success with the Cubs in the latter part of the season last year, and Masset should be here for a while because he can throw three-four innings at a time. I'm still skeptical about Sisco, but so far, so good. We're in a good spot... in fact, if guys like Logan, Perez and Day keep succeeding -- along with future relievers OMGrosso and Long keep pushing from the lower minors -- I wouldn't mind trading one of our proven arms for something of more value to us (an actual MIF prospect? a catching prospect?). I'd go so far as to say Jenks could become available... (blasphemy, I know)
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) I don't care if Mack should or should not have been batting in that situation. You don't freaking slap at pitches low and away when there are no outs, and you have a runner on 3rd. As a player, you should be able to drive a ball in the outfield. And Mack, who isn't an everyday player, should have taken advantage of getting a start, instead he blows it. He is a MLB hitter, freaking make the play, don't blow it. Don't make freaking excuses for him by saying he shouldn't have been batting. He is getting paid a couple million for mainly his bat and versitility, earn some of that money. You can say that usually about three times per game if you really wanted to. I expect you to call out every player the rest of the year now when they don't get a runner in from third with less than two outs.
  10. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Easy fly ball LOl. Was there an error scored?? Who would have caught that ball on our team?? Anderson doesnt have the speed to catch up with that line drive QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) The Legend is here. Thanks to SouthsideSox.com Line drive? If it makes you feel better about yourself, you go ahead and think that that ball was a "line drive". Any competent OFer knows how to put his mit over his head and make a catch. BTW, watchtower, go ahead and try to defend that with the video right there. It'll give the rest of us another good laugh.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Question for some of you guys: is there a hockey equivalent for Baseball Prospectus or Baseball America? I'm sure there is; so, what is the best stuff out there? Also, why has everyone cooled on Alexei Cherepanov and Angelo Esposito? From everything I've read, those two seem like the best options out there. Go to the hfboards (hfboards.com) -- check out the 'Prospects' part of it. Lots of intelligent posters there, and a guy from ISS (International Scouting Services) also posts there. He explains how they come to their rankings. That's a very good place to look. There's also The Hockey News -- every year before the draft they release an issue that ranks the top 50 or 60 prospects. RE: Cherepanov. The Russian hockey league doesn't have an agreement in place with the NHL. I'm not going to be able to give you the best answer, but it comes down to a matter of transfer fees and the Russian league not exactly wanting its best players to get away, so the whole issue is very murkey. The Hawks have also had troubles with their recent Russian picks -- ie Vorobiev and Yakubov -- and while it's certainly not fair to judge a prospect based on passed happenings with other prospects, that issue is there. RE: Esposito. I think his play has fallen off, quite simply. A year or two back he was viewed as the best available player, a franchise player (of sorts). I don't think he's going to be in consideration at this point. I think, for the Hawks, it comes down to three guys -- Patrick Kane, Jacob Voracek and Kyle Turris.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) The Legend is here. Thanks to SouthsideSox.com Forgive me -- I can't help but laugh really loudly at that. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Umpire blows call which would have resulted in a successful squeeze play from Pods, which would have added a run. A WTF inconsistant strike zone, bigger for the A's, smaller for the Sox. I saw multiple instances where the Oakland pitchers were getting strike calls, and our pitchers were not in the exact same locations. Nope -- would've been a foul ball. And there were two outs -- Podsednik shouldn't have been bunting in the first place. He's not a good bunter in the first place, so what made him think he could place the bunt perfectly down the first base line so he wouldn't be out? And what's he doing in the game in the first place? Oh, right, our manager must have not seen Pablo Ozuna and Brian Anderson and Jermaine Dye sitting on the bench.
  13. New avvy, baby! Kane and Voracek are looking like the top two standouts, with Turris as a possible third.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 05:44 AM) Why even make that comparison. No matter what, you can't guarantee anyone, not even Carlos Beltran, would have thrown him out. Does it make a difference? Was Beltran in LF for the Sox tonight? Was Erstad or Anderson in LF for the Sox tonight? No, ok, so move on. I don't see the point in beating a dead horse. We know Pod's cant throw...oh well. WTF are you talking about? This is a post-game thread? What the f*** do you expect us to talk about, pink poke-a-dots and giraffes? My freaking Lord...
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 05:32 AM) Chances don't mean squat really. So it wouldn't have mattered if it were Carlos Beltran out in LF tonight? Because -- chances are, Beltran makes that throw in his sleep and the Sox win then and there. But chances don't mean squat, so Podsednik = Beltran, right?
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 05:05 AM) It's almost the same exact situation as Game 2 of the World Series. Even if Pods does his usual two-bouncer to homeplate they might have had a chance at getting him. All he had to do was get it within the vicinity of homeplate, and he f***ing airmails it. The ball almost went into the stands, that's how pathetic of a throw that was. There's absolutely no f***ing reason why Anderson was sitting on the bench in the ninth. You put your best defensive lineup out there in a close game. If that EVER happens again this season, Ozzie ought to have his socks shoved down his throat.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 04:59 AM) I assume you're talking about Pods non-catch in the walk-off flyball, but at that point, is was 1-1. An average arm in LF throws out Milton Bradley at home. Pods was playing in because of the lefty and STILL couldn't get the ball anywhere near the vicinity of home plate. And don't get me started on the seventh (?) where Cintron had a leadoff double. You let Mackowiak AND Podsednik hit when Jermaine Dye, Pablo Ozuna and Brian Anderson are available? Absolutely pathetic. Awful managing. Hang this 'L' right on Ozzie's head.
  18. It was a bad call, but DJ needs to quit b****ing about it. Maybe Pods shouldn't be bunting with two outs... Maybe Pods shouldn't even be AT THE PLATE when Jermaine Dye and Brian Anderson are available.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 04:05 AM) He's a terrible bunter. It's a stupid idea. What was Ozzie to do? It's not like we have any right-handed OFers on the bench... Oh wait...
  20. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) Brad Richards, Vinny Lecavalier or St. Louis. There are going to be a LOT of people clammoring for the Hawks to trade this pick. That's totally understandable... BUT -- there have to be certain conditions. You can't be trading for a RFA who's contract is up in one year. And if you are, this player needs to be signed minutes after the trade is made. We can't trade a first overall pick for a player who won't even spend a whole year in a Hawks uniform. The second -- and this might be obvious -- this player has to be a clear-cut top six forward. We have enough defensive prospects. We have enough 'character' guys. Gimmie someone who can put the puck on Marty's stick anywhere and anytime he wants it, or give me another guy who can put it in the back of the net 30+ times.
  21. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) Many people have been losing confidence in Esposito, he was considered a Sidney Crosby-esque talent only a a couple years ago, but now is not in that territory. I hear the russian guy Alexei Cherepanov is the top talent nowadays. Voracek and Kane are two others. Tallon is actually going to see Voracek as their playoffs are starting. Any thoughts on either of those guys? This is the best news to happen to this franchise since the Havlat trade. I know, there is no Crosby or Malkin or Alex-O, but this is still very good news. We get our pick of the lot. Hell, we could trade it for a young-ish forward who a team can't afford to keep.
  22. QUOTE(Dan @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) So who's rooting for who in the Playoffs? Whoever's playing Detroit. Let's go Flames! Make it three years running of first round exits for De-twah.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 03:46 AM) I like seeing Carter with a 3-5 game. That guy has the ability to be a middle of the order MONSTER. Jason, have you seen Honel or talked to anyone who has seen Honel recently? I'm just wondering about the status of his 'stuff', i.e. if he's still throwing that knucklecurve we heard so much about when he was drafted.

SPOILER QUESTION for Planet Terror (Grindhouse) I feel sort of stupid asking, but why -- in the first flick -- did everything keep blowing up? I didn't have a problem with it -- things randomly starting on fire is great -- but I didn't know why...

    Entourage

FWIW, this isn't a new season. These final eight (?) episodes are finishing season three. Season four starts sometime in the fall (as does another new season of Curb). Yeah -- it's as close to a 'drama'-type show that I'll ever watch. I dunno what it is... it's not exactly a comedy -- there are some very funny parts, don't get me wrong -- I guess it's just the lifestyle they live that hooks me.
