White Sox vs. Indians, 4/4/07 (L)

QUOTE(Balance @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 07:34 PM) Pods reaches on an E4. How'd it look? Easy chopper that Barfield had to come in on a bit, but it was still just an easy play that he screwed up. Wow... Pods thrown out by Victor Martinez. Embarrassing. -

The Erstad/Nixon comparisons are awful. One can't play a lick of defense, the other can. One is patient at the plate, the other isn't. One hits for power, the other hits for higher average and is 'slappy'. One can run, the other can't. The only similarity is their propensity for wearing high socks. -

Pathetic inning. AJ and Iguchi more or less had walks 'handed' to them if they sat back a bit, and Westbrook hung that pitch toUribe. Ugh ugh ugh. -

"I like when AJ does that." Swing at ball three, DJ, when the strike zone is tiny and it's cold as hell and Westbrook is having a tough time finding the zone? Gosh damn I miss Rooney. -

On a cold day, you figured the ump would have a more 'lenient' (sp?) strike zone. Guess not... At least he's consistent. -

Did he get through the first unscathed? MLB.tv feels like being a b**** right now... -
Awesome -- Hawks have won their last two and are currently the fifth worst team in hockey. This f***ing team always does it -- win one or two meaningless games at the end of the year to push them just out of the reach of the cream of the crop talent. Also, a couple of Hawk tidbits... * Skille signed a contract with the Hawks and is now up with Norfolk. He had a point in his first game and got some good remarks from the Ads fans who saw him live. Then again, a couple of us saw him play in the WJCs this year and were thoroughly impressed. Speaking of the Ads... * They'll be in Rockford, Illinois next year. I don't know if I'm going to travel that far to see a minor league hockey team, but at least it's now within a reasonable distance if I were to say go there on a night where they had back-to-back games. Plus, will that re-align the divisions? If so, I would hope that would mean games with the Wolves and the other Admirals (Milwaukee). Ah -- I just noticed some of this stuff has been posted at TalkBHawks. I'll hop on there in a few weeks to re-up my account. We had some good discussion in the offseason, back when the Havlat excitement was around -- not that it's gone anywhere, he's still as amazing a player as the day we got him, but now it's time to put some talent around him.

Well, with another job off the table, the chances of Crean going elsewhere decreases, which is good news... I have to wonder who number two is on Kentucky's list. Or, if Donovan DOES go to KU, who's number two on Florida's list. Sorry for straying from the topic, but when can we expect a 'decision' from Donovan?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 03:34 AM) On another note. Kenny Lofton, one of the best lead off hitters of the last several years just stole his 600th base tonight. Really wish the Sox looked at him for LF this year. He's a much better leadoff man than either Pods or Erstad, plus he'd be a great one year option -- Sweeney could take over in a year. I think there were a couple of decent one year options available that the Sox should've looked at -- Lofton, Alou, Jenkins (Milwaukee via trade). As you can see, I'm not extremely happy about our LF situation.

QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) Some videos got released that spoiled the Jim-Roy confrontation and they're funny, not overly dramatic like you may be fearing. That's mainly what I was asking -- very nice to hear.

Ross Gload just pegged Petunia (Pedroia) who was trying to stretch a single into a double. Throw was a one-hopper in a perfet position. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) They need one more hitter. How's their middle relief? Turnbow bouncing back to some semblence of decency would be huge for them. Cordero will close, I think he'll be very good for 'em. Matt Wise is a good set-up man, and Elmer Dessens was just obtained (although he wasn't very good last year). Brian Shouse is the only left they're carrying in the bullpen. Maybe they'll call up they're their stud lefty Gallardo (sp?) later in the year to ease innings on his arm but bring another power arm down there? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) Enjoy it while he's healthy.....he just never can avoid back strains, etc. A Brewer fan just walked in here -- I told him if Sheets stays healthy, there's no reason the Brewers shouldn't win the NL Central. Sheets - Capuano - Suppan is the strongest 1-3 in that division, so... -

I'm up here in Milwaukee -- Ben Sheets is about to finish off the Doddddgers with a CG, one run outing. He's been excellent. STILL hitting 96, and there's two outs in the ninth. When healthy, he's gotta be the second best pitcher in baseball behind Santana. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) It sounds like we were trying to trade Mackowiak on the day we had to release Perez, but couldn't find someone of value. What's Aardsma getting clocked at on the ESPN gun? He looks to be throwing harder than the other guys. I'd say he's throwing anywhere from 94-96. It's a straight fastball, but if he can a.)bury it in on the hands and b.)drop that slider in there, he's going to be as effective as he was with the Cubs. On the bright side, good work from the bullpen so far. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) Massett's velocity is nowhere near advertised. I don't see someone as a "tick" below Jenks., As of right now he's a tick below Jenks. Hey, lookie there! One of our pitchers looked halfway competent against Sizemore! Masset is spotting that low-and-away fastball real well right now. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) I like the balance on that team, as they have a bunch of good overall hitters. If used correctly, I think Gonzalez can really benefit that team. Did Kemp even make their opening day roster? I thought he got sent down to AAA. And, IIRC, Billingsly has been moved to the bullpen. The Dodgers have a bunch of decent hitters but no great hitters. I'd say their best hitter (Nomar? A healthy Kent?) would be the fourth best hitter in our lineup. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) One of my favorite things on opening days is to go around and check the starting lineups for teams. Congrats to Borchard for starting for the Marlins today. The Dodgers lineup seems very solid as well, especially when Furcal gets back. Ozzie would love to manage that team. The Dodgers line up with a bunch of old guys who are blocking good young players, i.e. Luis Gonzalez blocking Matt Kemp? That Dodgers lineup? -
So -- is this week's new episode of The Office about to vault it into the category of being another one of those waaaaay too overdramatic shows, or...?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) I'm glad you've finally figured it out after I spent all of last season mentioning it. "It's only 300 at-bats!" Yeah, well, he's a good fourth OFer to have around and he's a perfect compliment for Delluci. But he became overexposed when facing that many righties, so yeah, I was a tad bit wrong.
