  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) And Egbert is pulled, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 12 K Gio Gonzalez laughs at Egbert's allowance of three base-runners to reach.

Flash -- Like others have said, Death Proof dragged a little bit. There was a lot of talking -- some of which was funny, other moments just sort of dragged (hate being redundant) -- but I thought the car scene made it worth it. Overall, it's a movie you have to see. The fake trailers are hilarious, as are some of the other little commercials. The spots where they inserted "Missing Reel" were pretty funny, too. I also enjoyed the many ass and boob shots -- funny and good at the same time.

Just got back from Grindhouse... loved it. NOTE SEMI-SPOILER (Not really, but I don't want to ruin anything...) I thought it dragged a bit in the second half. The scenes with the women just talking were eerily similar to many other Tarantino scenes, ala the opening part of Resevior Dogs. Still, the end more than made up for it. The trailers were also hilarious. I'm a sucker for Tarantino movies. I know there's a bit of controversy surrounding him, but I've loved every movie of his besides Hostel.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 01:42 AM) I'm guessing his pitch count was up there. 9k's too, pretty sick. Vazquez threw a scoreless six so the no no is intact. Eek -- Vasquez just bombed in that second inning. He's given up a couple of runs... Oneli is in now. Kudus to Gio. You think he's on a (relative) fast-track this year? I'd imagine he should be at Charlotte by (or right around) the All-Star break...
  5. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) Considering Sweeney hit .296/.350/.452 last year, .300/.350/.500 wouldn't be much of an upgrade. I'm hoping for him to hit higher than .310 just to show notable improvement. While, your season would be far from a disappointment I'm hoping more for something like .312/.370/.500. Granted, those are somewhat high expectations that is what I want to see to give me hope for him being a 300+ hitter with 15 HR power. I don't see why Sweeney would push Anderson out of center. That makes 0 sense. So what if our RF doesn't hit for power? As long as the lineup makes up for the power elsewhere I don't care where they play. My .300/.350/.500 line is a little conservative -- I agree. Hopefully if his power surge from the second half of last season is for real, pitchers will start to be a little more careful with him and he can get that OBP closer to .380. I would think that the increase in SLG% and the increase in OBP would come hand-in-hand, but I guess we shall see. My CF/RF comment about Sweeney was more about 'value' than anything. You can find guys in free agency who can put up good numbers on the corners, but it's a lot harder to find CFers who are average. If Anderson ends up sticking, no question that you could just put Sweeney in RF and be done with it. That's actually what I'm hoping for.
  6. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) Ultimately this is a make or break year for Sweeney. He has always been very young for the league he has played in. This year he will be repeating AAA so he will have experience at the level and won't be one of the youngest players in the league anymore, though still on the young end. If he repeats last year I think you can write him off as a power hitter of any sort in his career. I'm not saying he won't be able to hit near 300 in the bigs, but I severely doubt he will ever hit for power. I'm one of the hardest on Sweeney, but I still expect him to hit over 300 this year in AAA and develop into a solid defensive OFer that can hit around 280-290 with a respectable on base, but little power. It's tough to see Sweeney ever becoming a 'star' at the plate. He'd have to make a pretty big leap in his power for that to happen. It will be interesting to see if his power surge in the second half of last year is for real. If he comes out this year and hits .300/.350/.500, that will be very encouraging (although some will probably be due to the fact that he's hitting in Charlotte). I still can't see Sweeney ever being more than a very good player, though. What are Sweeney's prospects in centerfield? I know that he's better suited for RF, but do you guys think he could play an average CF if given the chance? His value goes up quite a bit if he could stick in CF, although that would mean moving Anderson to the corners, and I'm not sure that he has the power to stick in one of the corners. Either way, I'd love to see a scenario in which Fields (LF), Sweeney and Anderson are all in starting spots next year for the Sox, although that would mean that the Sox would have to bring in a big time free agent (A-Rod for third?) because it's going to take some time for the three to adjust to the big league level (Anderson included). (Sorry for the run-on.)
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 04:58 AM) How can we consider this a horrific off-season. So far Danks won the fifth starters spot and Brandon McCarthy and Garcia had terrible springs and Garcia is now battling a bit of the injury bug while McCarthy had a very mediocre first start. The only move I really had a 'huge' problem with was not ridding the team of Podsednik. I'm very glad Kenny didn't delve into this market where average players were getting upwards of $50 million. Also -- people have given Kenny's revamped bullpen a lot of crap so far, but I think it'll be the strength of the team when this year ends. Our top two righties are about as good as there is, Thorton should be fine (looks like the velocity is still there, and he's got that nice slider now), and Masset + Aardsma showed quite a bit this series -- not that a series means a lot, but they look like they're capable of being decent in middle relief. I'm still shaky on Sisco, but if he struggles enough, Logan will be up here. Overall I'd say our bullpen is pretty deep.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 03:30 AM) Ha. Khabi makes 56 saves, Bickell scores on his debut, and the Hawks finally beat Detroit in a SO. Hawks continue to play their way out of a top five pick. Grrrrreat. Gotta love meaningless wins at the end of the season totally screwing up your draft position.
  9. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 03:34 AM) If we give up Gio and Broadway in one trade, we better get the equivalent of Carl Crawford, not Rocco Baldelli. Haha. Green = sarcasm, just so you know.
  10. I've sort of grown used to Hawks 'antics'. DJ I don't like at all. He really doesn't bring a heckuva lot to the booth. That caught stealing yesterday was quite embarassing, and I don't think that's the first time something like that has happened. I really wish the Sox would've found room for Stone in one of the two booths (radio or TV). As it is now, I don't think any of the four broadcasters we currently have are anything special, so I just listen to Hawk and DJ (because turning on the radio just isn't worth it). Sigh... come back, Rooney.
  11. It looks like you arrived at Soxtalk just this offseason. If you notice up top, every day we (usually) post all of the minor league games and commentary on those games. Just for future reference...
  12. I thought -- at least for AAA -- they were offering a minorleague TV? I thought I remember them having that at the end of last season. Apparently not...?
  13. Excellent work, bullpen. I'm not worried about Thorton -- his fastball is still hitting the mid-to-upper 90s, and this year he actually has a decent breaking ball to go along with it.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) Someone on our offense, man the f*** up and get a run. Please. You can bet we're going to see some 'hero' swings. Hopefully not from Erstad, though...
  15. Well, nice single Scott, but since you can't steal on Victor Martinez, maybe you should just stay put on the bases this year (when you happen to reach first).
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) Look for Masset to start tiring now. He's gotta get through this inning. And, if this inning is quick enough, work into the fifth. Aardsma is probably only good for one inning, at most, and Sisco is again going to have to take two.
  17. Our bullpen is going to be dead after today. Jesus, this is so pathetic. What are our pitchers so f***ing unprepared and not-sharp coming out of the gate?
  18. Is it written in genetic code that if you're born in Detroit, you're a scumbag? Why the f*** were Detroit fans throwing s*** at Tyrus Thomas? Hamilton's a b****, too... following TT around, just kept talkin' smack.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) The Twins are a good team because of Mauer, Morneau, and a sensational end of the bullpen (and a sensational manager at following fathom's #1 rule). Tony Bautista, Ramon Ortiz and Sidney Ponson all shake their heads in agreement.
  20. Ahh!!!! A lefty! For me, Podsednik at the plate is a win-win situation. If he makes an out, hopefully it brings him that much closer to being sent elsewhere and putting Anderson back into center with Erstad in left. If he gets on base, well, he's helping the team, so...
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Nah, he actually was pretty quick a few injuries and operations ago... I don't deny that. I said "good". He's had one good year (2003). 2005 he was acceptable. We're talking about two different things.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) Pods seems to have lost a lot of physical attributes from a few years ago. Mainly, any power he had, and a lot of his speed. Put him with the thousands of other players who have seen suspicious dropoffs since steroid testing went into play. Or he was never really that good in the first place, had a real lucky (fluke) year, and has been (more or less) living off of it for his career...
  23. Aardsma and Sisco are up. I assume the plan is to get Garland through an out or two in the 6th, play situational matchups with Aards/Sisco to close out the inning, then finish with our Mac/Thorton/Jenks trio.
  24. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) Who bats 2nd then? I like Iguchi down in the order, and Anderson hasnt proven he can hit yet. Id leave thigs as they are for now. If anything maybe KW can pull off a deal for a LF/CF who can actually hit Let Iguchi lead off. He still wouldn't be asked to give up at-bats and move runners over. He'd be perfect for the role as he has the best non-power-hitting OBP on the team.
