  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 01:00 AM) This is going to be a damn good Angels team when their guys get healthy. Their offense will still be weak because they're going to continue giving ABs to Garrett Anderson and Shea Hillenbrand. But that team sure can pitch. I think Boston is the best team in the AL.
  2. Aaron Cunningham not involved? That's not grindy very grindy of him...
  3. Yikes. This is sick. Has Weaver been that good or is it more of the same from our offense?
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) I think the big issue is if we'll actually pay for players in the FA market, or will KW continue to whine about the overpaying going on? You say this like KW was wrong. All the hitters did get overpaid this winter. There were some who he missed out on (IMO), but good players got star money this winter. There will be potentially two stars on the market this winter in Andruw Jones and (maybe) A-Rod, and a third very good player in Ichiro.
  5. QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) Not sure what the going rate would be to move up, but if it was a swap of 1sts, give our 3rd and 5th, Id do it I wouldn't. I want Angelo to have as many mid-round picks as possible. They're the best value in football, and they're especially of value to the Bears because Angelo hits so often on them. There's going to be a very good player available at #31, Quinn or no Quinn.
  6. QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 08:02 PM) I'm going to get flamed for this, but the bears really should trade up for Quinn here. As a notoriously cheap franchise, this could be a time in which you could get a potential franchise qb for the cheapest possible rate. You dont have to pay him top 15 money now, and it's not like a Tom Brady is going to fall in your lap in the 6th round. Grossman has a year left. This is a prime scenario for Quinn. Strong Defense behind him, good o-line, and a few weapons to work with. I agree with you, although I don't want the Bears giving up picks. If Quinn falls to #31, I'd take him, even if the Bears don't necessarily want him. At this point, he's far and away the best player available. If he falls there, I don't see how you can pass on him.
  7. Chris Denorfia traded to Oakland for two PTBN.
  8. Patrick Willis with a Sox hat too? Two more mancrushes in the NFL for me.
  9. I know it's still early to start thinking about this, but is there one guy that you're just hoping will fall to #31 but probably won't? Like Poszlusny (sp?), perhaps?
  10. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Browns are gonna regret this pick. Guess they are really banking on Frye this year. I don't think so. You're QB isn't going to do anything if your offensive line sucks. Thomas seems like a really safe but still quality pick.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 06:06 AM) A lot of people would be, and there is probably very little chance of it actually happening. I just get a hunch that he could be moved. O' well, what do I know? Speaking as of right now -- is there a better pitching prospect in the organization? Russell has potential, but he's never done it in a full season. I want to see him pitch well for a whole season before I buy into the new arm angles (the stuff is obviously there). I'd be very dissappointed if any of the top three from the Birmingham rotation were traded. I understand that you can't get something without giving something, but guys like McCollough, Broadway, and Haeger should go before any of the top three in Birmy, IMO.
  12. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 05:39 AM) With the caveat that it's too soon to judge a trade a month into the season, I don't think this was a disastrous move. 1 year of Garcia at 10M (+ a draft pick) versus Floyd and Gonzalez. Right now it seems like a weak but not terrible return. The question is, could Williams have gotten Taveras and Hirsh (or maybe just Hirsh) for Garcia or Garland instead? If you think the answer is yes, this deal looks quite a bit worse. One question is, do you really think Hirsh plus Tavares (who I see as nothing more than a fourth OFer on a good team) is better than Floyd and Gonzalez? I think you can make an argument either way, but from a pitching standpoint, I like Floyd + Gio better. You can argue all day whether the package should have been better, but honestly, I'm not too pissed at this point. Gio starting the season the way he has is putting him back on the map as one of the better left-hand prospects in all of baseball.
  13. Can someone explain to me this stupid rule about fouling Ben Wallace here? What the f***?
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 02:30 AM) Did his .337/.386/.790 September not happen? .284/.326/.356 in the second half. That includes September. And when he did get on base, he got caught stealing.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 02:29 AM) Good grief....why are we throwing fastballs to Vlad with a slider pitcher? Now we have Sisco in to face Anderson. Let the overmanaging begin!
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 02:25 AM) People can throw all the stats in the world at me, but we would NOT have won the world series if we "substituted" Lee for Pods in left. You can admit two things though. 1.) Pitching was a bigger reason why we won in 2005. 2.)Pods was ass in the second half (only to hit out of his mind in the postseason -- he'll always be loved for that).
  17. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 02:20 AM) Unless you think we would have won the World Series with Carlos Lee in LF and Magglio in RF instead...odds are, you'd see the same team as we saw in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. LOL at this argument. I thought we'd never see this again, but I guess I was wrong. Too funny...
  18. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 02:12 AM) And when I say better, I don't mean a smudge better. Nixon is more than a 'smudge' better than Podsednik. But if you want to think that they're equal ballplayers, that's your perogative. Nice job Bulls. Keep playing D and it'll be 3-0.
  19. Yup -- you brought up the 33 at-bats. And let me just say -- 33 ABs > career OPS+. Fixed. ------------------------------- Gio has 13 Ks in seven innings pitched tonight. He must've struck out the side last inning.
  20. What's Podsednik? Well damn that Kenny Williams to hell for not jumping on Mr. Trot Nixon. No telling how good our offense would be with him on board. That's really not the point, but you're not seeing the forest from the... No, you're not seeing the trees either, so...
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:37 AM) Heard of it. And Pods had one near .390 before he got hurt. In 33 whole ABs? Really? Hurray Scotty!
  22. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:33 AM) Nixon? A platoon player that can't hit lefties? How would he be any better than what Pods brings to the table? This is a serious question? It isn't a joke? Career OPS + Podsednik - 89 Nixon - 117 And Caulfield -- he's not a natural LFer? Is that a joke too? LF is the easiest position to play.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:30 AM) Yep, my thoughts exactly. I guess a good thing you can say about having Pods is that it kept us from giving Juan Pierre or Gary Matthews ~$50 million, but I'm not going to call a move a good move just because it wasn't the worst move.
  24. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 01:25 AM) Yet you, Tony, or anybody for that matter, can't come up with a legitimate upgrade that wouldn't have costed a ton in money or players/prospects. Trot Nixon's been brought up multiple times. He would've been a great one year fit. Also, keeping Eduardo Perez on the roster and just having an Ozuna/Mackowiak platoon out there would've been pretty much equal to giving Pods $3 million.
