  1. QUOTE(fathom @ May 11, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) Chris Burke was sent down by the Astros. It would be a great time for KW to buy low. Also, it might give us our 2nd baseman for next year. Burke for Broadway. If they want Pods, they can have him too.
  2. It's just hard to get excited about Lance Broadway. He doesn't strike guys out, he doesn't suppress hits at a particularly great rate, and he's not a big groundball pitcher. Combine that with the fact that the Sox have three guys pushing immediately behind him in JAG, and another pitcher who the GM adores (Floyd), and it's tough to see where Broadway fits in. I know Broadway won't headline any package, but hopefully a GM out there likes his career ~3.10 minor league ERA enough to inquire about him so Kenny can grab a good player. In the right circumstances, I'm pretty sure Broadway could (will?) pitch in the majors. Heck, he'd probably make the Nationals rotation right now. But I can't see him ever starting for the Sox.
  3. That was probably the worst win I've ever watched. I don't think I've ever watched such a dismal game. That said, kudos to Garland, Thorton and Jenks for shutting down KC. And a win is a win, so no complaining tonight.
  4. Did Hawk just say he saw three straight breaking balls and then a fastball? Looked to me like those first two pitches were fastball strikes (the first one right down the middle). All were straight fastballs too, not much movement.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ May 12, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) They simply can't get hits against LHP. Our average hit total against lefty starters must be around 4. Don't worry, it's sort of cold out tonight. The bats will heat up as it gets warmer. //Greg Walker Funny how the bottom two hitters in our lineup have the best approach against this guy tonight. Iguchi has looked okay, too -- and I guess AJ has been good.
  6. The drooling over the opposing pitcher has begun from Hawk. No, Hawk -- if Odalis Perez is in your rotation, you probably suck. What a f***ing pathetic performance from the offense.
  7. We suck. Hard. DJ: "The Sox take advantage and get an unearned run." No, taking advantage would have meant getting Terrero home with less than two outs. We just wasted an opportunity when KC was trying to hand the game over on a plate.
  8. Good news -- Cheat said the Sox signed two draft-and-follows today. One of the guys they signed got fifth round money. I think he provided a Baseball America link...
  9. No Sweeney tonight -- Terrero is in left.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 11, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) When you consider that if the White Sox hold on to Mr. Dye, and he departs as a FA, the White Sox will still receive 2 compensatory top-of-the-draft picks, and if Mr. Dye goes to Toronto those picks would go to the Jays, I think that's a little much to give up for Mr. Rios. But we're on track with a decent line of thought there, and it could well just be a matter of changing a player or two. Well, with so many comp picks being handed out, it's likely not going to be a top-of-the-draft pick. Flash said there's something like 36 comp picks in this year's draft. Don't get me wrong, you'd still be getting pretty good picks, but man -- I'd love to get Rios. Great defensive player who looks like he's going to have to settle into a .850-.925 OPS guy. Maybe not a star, but still a very, very good player.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 11, 2007 -> 09:09 PM) I do not have time to find the exact draft reports I read. But yes, they claimed that he could contribute immediately and that he was more ready for the NBA because he had played pro ball. Either way, he hasn't been that impressive this year. Haha, that's funny. Look up about three posts, and find me where it says he was ready to contribute immediately, that he could step in and play right away. Kyyle posted five or six different scouting reports, and not ONE says he's ready to step in from day one and contribute. You're just flat out wrong there... It's not anybody's fault but your own that your expectations were unreasonable. I'm not saying that Sefolosha played perfectly this year - far, far from it -- but it's ridiculous and ignorant to call this past season from him a "bust".
  12. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 11, 2007 -> 06:40 AM) We need Ben out there. Yeah, he's struggled. Just like Hinrich, Deng and every other Bull has struggled? Are they gonna overcome those struggles from the bench? Should we have benched Hirnich for Duhon? Deng for Griffin? It's not as simple as you make it. Nice, too bad these situations aren't at all similar. When Ben Gordon is not scoring, he's a below average basketball player. He's a TOTAL liability on the defensive end of the floor. I'll admit to not watching the Bulls as much as many of you guys here -- but it's not just Gordon's height that make him a liability on that end. You'd think that, at the very least, he'd be able to keep guys in front of him. He can't even do that. I was amazed seeing Hamilton and Billups just dribble right around Ben. Hinrich, Deng... those situations aren't AT ALL comparable, seeing that those guys bring it to the defensive end. That being said... -I think you took my initial point to an extreme. I didn't want to see Thabo out there for the whole second half. My question is this -- why weren't they used AT ALL? It seemed to go totally against Skiles' first half strategy, where the Tyrus was the first sub of the game, and Thabo got significant minuts. This from Matt at Blog-a-Bull, the best Bulls site on the internet: -Second, agreed on Hinrich. How many wide open shots did he have that he missed? Yikes, at least most of Gordon's misses are with guys a half a foot taller than him standing right in his face. Obviously something needs to change. We need a big man who can play with his back to the basket and a bigger guard. Hopefully that's Thabo but I think he'd be better served as being the first guard off the bench.
  13. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 11, 2007 -> 04:52 AM) Then who's gonna score, or even be a threat to score? I know Ben struggled in the second half. Just like Luol and Kirk did. We're having enough problems scoring as it is. And what the hell has Thabo done all year? People keep calling for him based off what? The few minutes he played an injured Dwyane Wade well? He's been a bust if you ask me. He was supposed to be the "steal" of the draft and "NBA-ready." He's been a bust? Haha. He was the Bulls' best defender on D-Wade last series, and did a great job on Rip Hamilton when he was in the game. Thabo is strong enough to get through screens but long and quick enough to stay with guys. He's still a little rough around the edges -- his jump shot isn't great, and at times he's shaky with the ball. When it's all said and done, though, I think Thabo is going to be a very good guard for the Bulls -- I think he'll end up making a bigger impact with the team than Tyrus will. I wasn't calling for Thabo to be in the ballgame with two minutes to play. But until the final 30 seconds when the game was over, Thabo and Tyrus didn't play a f***ing minute (*to clarify, in the second half). Not even when Nocioni was playing like ass, ditto PJ Brown.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ May 10, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) No place for Glaus to play. I'd love to get Rios though, he'd be a great fit in RF to replace Dye after this year. I was thinking... hypothetically speaking, because this trade wouldn't hapen (at least right now) -- since BJ Ryan is done for at least a year, would you trade Dye + MacDougal/Jenks for Rios? I would, although I'm not sure Toronto would necessarily do that (for one), and after Dye took the lesser contract to come here (keeping his word), I feel like the Sox are in some way 'indebted' to him.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2007 -> 03:25 AM) I was right about us all year after all If you ever f***ing wonder why people give you s*** from time to time, here's why. You were right all along... give me a f***ing break.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 11, 2007 -> 03:24 AM) Neither one of them did anything while they were on the floor in the first half. I agree that Noch has been terrible. However, Brown has played pretty well for the most part. Ben Gordon disappeared in the second half. This doesn't need to be said, but when he's not scoring, he's useless. He absolutely got dominated by Billups and Hamilton, blowing right by him no problem. Sefolosha was, at the very least, going to play defense. Something had to be switched up. The Bulls' offense against that zone in the second half was worse than the Marquette offense I watched all year. Something had to change... nobody was in the middle of the zone. Whatever. Hopefully the Knicks pick allows us to take a good back-to-the-basket player. I'd love Horford or Hibbert.
  17. The lineup Skiles has on the floor right now is brutal. Why have Sefolosha and Thomas been buried on the bench this half, too? Nocioni and Brown are KILLING the Bulls right now. Get them off the f***ing floor.
  18. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 10, 2007 -> 02:50 AM) This is terrible news for Tizzle. Hah. Flash may be overharsh on certain things sometimes, but if you actually think he's rooting for Danks to fail...
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 10, 2007 -> 02:10 AM) Keep Sweeney in LF until he either proves he is overmatched or whatever. The Mack and Ozuna platoon is not something we should consider putting back into effect when Thome gets back. This is where Kenny needs to act like the general manager. He's the one who sets the roster... There's no need for Boone Logan up here. Sweeney stays, Boone goes.
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 10, 2007 -> 02:06 AM) Ha, similar post. Yeah, you beat me to the punch.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 10, 2007 -> 02:02 AM) A.K.A. Liriano. Liriana was handled with kid gloves. They put him in the bullpen to start 2006 despite his readiness to dominate at the beginning of last season. Liriano had some injuries with the Giants, IIRC, and I thought I recall reading that his motion wasn't particularly 'clean'.
  22. He sat back on the curveball nicely there, just didn't get enough good wood on it.
  23. My goodness -- this f***ing strike zone...
  24. Somewhere, ssi71 is smiling at Sweeney taking that low-and-away pitch into LF. Nice job, Ryan!
  25. Pablo Ozuna is sporting a sexy 26 OPS+ coming into tonight's action. My gosh has he been brutal this year. Luckily, he's outdone by Gustavo Molina's -100 OPS+. I just want this team to get younger. Trade Cintron and call-up Andy Gonzalez. Keep Sweeney here and trade Podsednik. I want baseball to be fun again.
