White Sox vs. Angels, 5/5/07 (W)

Crede with a gork shot. Sox HAVE to win this game now. Hopefully Jon can get through another inning or two and we can hand this one to the bullpen. -

Great inning from Garland. He's got some very good movement on his sinker/two-seamer today. That thing is running in at 89-90. Definitely good to see. -

744 for Bonds. First pitch, gone. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2007 -> 04:23 AM) guys Beane or Paul Depodesta have targeted Haha, keep taking shots. You just love that red herring, don't you? You made a dumbass comparison between Milledge and Anderson when you were clearly wrong. I called you on it, and you haven't done anything to back up your case. You quote the 170 major league at bats where Milledge wasn't even that bad. I've admitted that Contreras for Milledge is certainly debatable. For you, though, that's not enough, and I understand that. I have to be wrong, you have to be right.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2007 -> 04:21 AM) We might be the slowest, most unathletic team in history. We disagree.
-
Oh, and FWIW, Milledge's major league debut wasn't terrible at all -- .241/.310/.380. I'm not going to debate whether Contreras for Milledge is fair or not. That's still to be determined -- if Contreras pitches with his good forkball, he's going to be a lot more effective, and no way would I trade him for just Milledge.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2007 -> 04:10 AM) ...and his major league stint was comparable to Anderson's. Yep -- all 169 ABs? Really? Hah, you're clearly wrong about that comparison between Milledge and Anderson and yet you keep making the argument. You're a really funny guy.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:55 AM) I'll believe it when I see, and yes I watched him play with the Mets last year. Reed was 22 when he put up monster numbers in Birmingham. Yes -- 22 at AA, 23 at AAA, still two years older than Milledge any way you slice it. Milledge >>> Anderson, Reed.
-
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:50 AM) I really don't think the Sox could get much for him anyway. Watching the game on TV, you can see his stuff isn't anywhere near as good as it was in 2005. If he were pitching well, maybe he'd bring back a low level prospect of some sort. But as it is, the Sox would have to throw in more talent just to move his contract. Jose has looked great since the second inning. Guys are swinging right over that forkball. Too bad the offense sucks.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:47 AM) Well considering you're 5 feet from the ledge because of Chris Young, I'll chalk him up too. Reed put up better numbers than Milledge in the minor leagues as well. Anderson has had better minor league seasons than Milledge too. What the hell are you talking about? Milledge, as a 21 year old, put up an .828 OPS in his first year at AAA, while Anderson, as a a 23 year old, put up a .829 OPS. Oh, and Milledge's league, IIRC, was a much harder league to hit in. Ditto Jeremy Reed. Milledge is a much better prospect than either of those two ever were, no comparison.

Fathom, what's the extent of Milledge's injury?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) So, does Contreras have 1 yr or 2 yrs left on his deal after this season? Signed through 2009.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:36 AM) Why are you so obssesed with this guy? Is it because Beane showed interest in him? Haha, still beating that drum? That was almost funny, I guess... Why is it a horrible trade? We shed $20 million dollars on a fading pitcher and get a very good outfield prospect. Things change if Contreras dominates for the next two months and the Sox fade out of the race, but I'd do that trade.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:32 AM) All I know is if Omar Minaya comes a sniffing around Contreras around the trade deadline, you seriously consider moving him. Contreras for Milledge. Boom, done.

SSI71, great Swingers reference. In fact, after this game, I think I'm going to watch that movie. Is there a better scene in any movie than the NHL '94 scene? "I'm gonna make little Wayne's head bleed."

Honestly, I don't care if Sweeney hits .220 this season, I'd love to see the Sox just say 'f*** it' and keep him up here the whole season. Despite the fact that Sweeney has never dominated a level, the Sox have always pushed him. Why not keep him up here for the whole season? He's going to be part of the future outfield eventually, let him get his lumps this year.
-
Some great forkballs for Jose there. He's meat if he doesn't have that pitch, but when it's there, he's fine.
-
Can someone on this team hit a hanging slider? Iguchi got one 0-1, Crede got one 3-2. What a joke. Nice, Erstad.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:53 AM) It amazes me to see how some people fall in love with prospects, even ones they've never seen before. I think a great chip we could trade is MacDougal. It's not likely he'll stay healthy throughout the year anyways. I'd rather trade Jenks. As much as MacDougal is injury-prone, I think Jenks is a ticking time bomb. Plus he is a closer and has a bunch of saves and World Series experience. Other teams tend to overvalue relievers and the Sox have people coming up who can replace him.
-
How many times is Contreras going to hang his s***ty as side-arm slider? God dammit.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:43 AM) I hope there's a picture of that. It's so going on the front page. Cheat's got his recap pic, that's for sure.

What the f*** is going on with Josh Fields? Another weak night at the plate -- 1-for-5. I know it's early, but he needs to get going, ASAP.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 5, 2007 -> 01:52 AM) Mack/Cintron/Sweeney doesn't look dead sexy to you at the bottom? At least Sweeney is playing. I was going to be pissed if I saw Terrero's name instead of Sweeney's.

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"

QUOTE(infohawk @ May 4, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) I do agree that any trades the Sox make should bring in a young leadoff hitter prospect. I like Pods, but he seems to have some pretty chronic issues with pulling groin and abdominal muscles. No, the Sox should get with the times and stop turning "leadoff hitter" into a position. Find someone who can work the count, someone who will get on-base at a .350 or better clip. Oh, right, we had that guy on the roster going into the winter in Tad Iguchi. But God forbid, he's not going to steal 45 bases so f*** it, he can't leadoff. He can hit #2 but he can't leadoff, his average would probably plumit and his whole world would come crashing down. The Sox took a stupid risk, assuming a guy who hasn't been healthy (or good, for that matter) since the middle of 2005, would stay healthy. Not to mention that if said player isn't 100% healthy, he isn't in the least bit useful. Now they're paying for it. Lesson (hopefully) learned. -
Do I vote for him? Yes. Do the sportswriters vote for him? Probably not. That would've been so great had the Sox pursued Bonds this winter. I was giddy when I heard that KW and Bonds had some sort of friendly relationship, but equally dissappointed when KW or JR threw water over that fire.
