QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 19, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) *cough* Jose Contreras *cough* Contreras gave up three more runs in about ten more innings pitched in Sept/Oct of 2005. Either way, it was very comparable. You still have yet to prove this.

This is pathetic. Marquis has nothing. The pitch he struck Tadahito out on was a fastball right down the middle. He's leaving his fastball up and Crede does nothing. This is f***ing sick.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 19, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) I disagree. They throw the same pitches, but one clearly has the better stuff and mindset. I probably wasn't very clear, but you read my post wrong. When I say McCarthy = Danks, I'm not comparing them as pitchers. I'm comparing them as products of the farm system. So when somebody says, "Which players have been produced under Kenny's farm?", I think Danks qualifies. He didn't directly come from the Sox farm system, but he's still a product of the system because of the good job the Sox did with McCarthy. This is just plain wrong. McCarthy earned a lot of the hype he got. He dominated the minors like no pitcher I've seen in my young life from the Sox' farm system, and he was the Sox' best pitcher down the stretch in 2005. We might not make the playoffs without BMac. People forget just how dominant he was for us in 2005 -- in September and October, 35 innings pitched while allowing all of eight (!) runs.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 19, 2007 -> 07:22 PM) An overrated player since day 1 who has yet to prove, he was anything more than that I agree with the general point that the Sox drafting/scouting has been poor, but you really can't bash Kenny for the McCarthy situation. If you truly believe McCarthy is/was an overrated pitcher, Kenny deserves a lot of credit for talking BMac up enough and getting one of the better left-handed prospects in all of baseball (Danks) for him. For me, Danks = McCarthy when it comes to the Sox' drafting. No, the Sox didn't develop Danks or draft him, but they did with McCarthy and apparently did a good enough job to get one helluva pitcher in return.

I'd like to see Dewon Day's BAPIP. It has to be above .400 . Another typical outing (so far): 1 IP, 1 R (unearned), 2 Hs, 3 Ks.
-
At least something good came out of the Sox organization today -- Russell with a fantastic start. So far... 7 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 1R (earned), 6 Ks.
-
Maybe it's just the fathom in me speaking, but even when we were up 3-1, it just felt like waiting for the other shoe to drop with the Sox. That says nothing of Buehrle, who was pretty good -- not as efficient as he usually is with his pitches, but still pretty good -- but that one (then two) run lead never really had me comfortable. The Sox really need to win tomorrow, as I'm not liking that Sunday matchup one bit.
-
Jason, you have no reason to defend the list -- we know you guys who put the list together put in a lot of hard work and really are the best when it comes to Sox prospects. You guys know your s***, and I think most of us understand that. Don't let one dumbass comment get in the way of that.

The Sox were playing with fire all day. Gotta score more than three runs on the Cubs pitching. Lilly didn't have a very good curveball at all today -- he buried it well a couple of times, but it wasn't really sharp. And six up, six down for the Cub bullpen is pathetic. This offense still f***ing sucks. It's okay, though, let's just look at the back of their baseball cards.

QUOTE(BearSox @ May 18, 2007 -> 05:34 AM) There were a bit more differences between the 03 and 04 Rangers, but none big enough where they were a much better team overall. I wonder why.. Texas ERA+: 2001 - 78 2002 - 95 2003 - 87 2004 - 111 But yeah... A-Rod's no winner. I'm glad you know that he's not a winner, too... Is that similar to being what Hawk would call a "baseball player"?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 18, 2007 -> 04:19 AM) Was anyone else nearly brought to tears when Tayshaun Prince hit that little hook shot to take the lead to 12? I hope Luol was taking notes. Luol's job this summer should be to learn how to play with his back to the basket. Learning that little hook shot would be perfect for Luol as he has those longer-than-average type arms that Prince has. I don't think Deng is ever going to become a great 'superstar' type player, but I think he can become a very good player like Prince is. -
The injury bug seems to be flying around the AL Central -- Jesse Crain has a torn rotator cup and labrum, per Rotoworld. Going to get a second opinion, but most likely done for the year.

I am so giddy right now. This is so f***ing awesome. It needed to get done, you thought it would get done, but it makes me so freaking happy to see it finalized. Don't confuse my giddiness for ignorance. The Hawks are still a long ways from the playoffs, no doubt, but the Hawks are building the right way and it's good to see that it's slowly starting to pay off. Next year is going to be a very exciting season for true Blackhawk fans... Toews AND possibly Skille on the team next year, along with Barker, Seabrook and Ruutu? Unbelievable. You're also going to have rookies like Bolland, Bickell, and Brouwer competing for spots, along with one of the most exciting players in all of hockey in Havlat. This f***ing rocks. Honestly, I could care less if the Hawks "strike out" in free agency this winter. Just shed one (preferably both) of those bad defensemen contracts (Aucoin + Cullimore) and lets go to training camp. I'm so f***ing happy.

Blackhawk news -- WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.chicagoblackhawks.com/news/news.asp?story_id=3856 OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!! Unless Tallon pulls a Martin Havlat trade part two out of his ass, this is going to be the BEST news of the summer. This is awesome -- let the Toews era begin!

Anyone watching Comcast's highlights of the game? After the game, Konerko had a "Sometimes, you just gotta tip your cap" quote. Greg Walker's hard-work is really paying off.

I was sort of thinking about this tonight at the game... If the Reds continue to tank, and the Sox hang around in that couple-games-above-five-hundred area, are we going to see the return of Griffey-Talk? Now that he's in a corner OF spot, it sort of makes sense. It would be an implication that Dye would definitely not be back beyond this year, but it improves the offense significantly, and it doesn't hurt to have another guy who is close to a pretty significant HR record. I don't think the Reds have a whole lot in the way of pitching prospects besides Bailey, so the Sox could probably put together a pretty solid pitching package to entice Cincy. The Sox might be able to get it done without giving up Gio but that would probably depend on how much of the contract that the Sox ate. Here is where I'm confused -- Hardball Dollars has him getting deferred money ($57.5 million total) from 2009-2024. He's only signed through 2009, though. I'd certainly love to see it happen, especially if you can get a Bobby Abreu-like deal out of it where you're not giving up top prospects but still eating a lot of the contract.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 16, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Isn't that what they always said about Aaron Miles? Aaron Miles is, at best, a utility player. His career line in the majors is .278/.320/.356. If a player like that is starting for you, your team is probably not very good. Dan's right on with regards to Getz. His career minor league line coming into this year was .272/.351/.345. Just because some want to annoint him Iguchi's replacement for next year based on ~150 at-bats doesn't make them right. I'll be extremely surprised if Getz can stay anywhere near the .869 OPS he's putting up right now. FWIW, Getz is also repeating AA, and he was a player drafted out of college in the first place. He should be doing this.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 16, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) Babcock's line combos worked to perfection (splitting up Zetterberg/Datsyuk) I didn't watch the game last night, but I think I can safely say the reason Anahiem lost is because they didn't shoot enough.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 5/16/07 Lets Play Two!! (W), (L)

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 16, 2007 -> 01:02 AM) I know BA is still K'ing, too, but I mean...he's hitting fairly well, as far as average, which is what most people cite on here to talk about how well he's doing. I guess it's good that he didn't go down there and totally tank, but he's not really improving. He's striking out in about 25% of his at-bats -- if AAA pitchers are striking you out that much, there are MAJOR holes in your swing. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 16, 2007 -> 12:34 AM) AAAnderson lights it up down there. Comes up and is terrible. You're not really looking at the right stats. He's still striking out as much as he did in his last full stint down at AAA. If he were to come up today it'd probably be more of the same ole, same ole. The same goes for our other real hitting prospect down there, Josh Fields, who -- believe it or not -- is striking out in a larger percentage of his at-bats than Anderson is. It's funny seeing the some of the same people who ripped on Anderson call for Fields to be the Sox' third baseman next season. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 14, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Skiles can't coach worth a s*** From Blog-a-Bull. Fantastic entry from Matt: The first two off the bench that he's talking about, BTW, are Nocioni and Duhon. -
Statistically speaking, Kent would be great, although I've heard or read cases of him being a real ass where-ever he goes. Burke would be nice, but even he's no guarantee. He'd be an upgrade defensively and you can probably get by with him for a year or two, but I can't see him doing that much better than his line of last year (.276/.347/.418). He seems logical to go after, though -- he'd improve the Sox' bench this season and would give the Sox a reasonably decent 2B option for next year if something better doesn't present itself.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 14, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) That was the smallest point in my post, but Ozuna is much faster, and people seem to be forgetting that Terrero had a horrible read and late break on Dye's single, making it much closer than it should have been at the plate (I know it wasn't that close, but if that throw doesn't die when it hits the turf, it would have been). Horrible read? He had to make sure the ball got by Grudzielanek. In the end he scored quite easily, so what does it matter?

A buddy of mine and I were talking about all the former 'Hawks on the ice during the game winning goal last night in the Wings/Ducks game. IIRC, we counted Cleary, Moen, Hasek and Chelios. Expanding it to playoffs, you can probably make a whole team -- Spacek, Nichol, Calder, Amonte, Bell, etc (I'm sure there's more)... Also, Canada won the IIHF. Jonathan Toews played real well and I thought I read on Stuy's boards that Toews led all players in faceoff percentage at about 60%. This was against pretty good competition too, lots of players from teams who didn't make the playoffs. I think he's ready -- time to sign him and get him second line centerman minutes. Ruutu also played well for Finland. I think the dreams of a first line, Peter Forsberg type player are farfetched at this point, but hopefully he can stay healthy for an extended period of time and become a 25-goal, 50 point player for next season.
