  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:42 AM) If we can get someone like Aybar for 2B, that could be a nice spark. Oh yeah, Erick Aybar is going to be that spark -- the guy who put up a .283/.327/.413 line in the freakin' PCL last year. We're going to live-and-die with most of the guys on this team -- this includes Pierzynski, Konerko, Uribe, Crede, Dye and Thome. That leaves three spots -- 2B, LF and CF. Who is available at 2B who is going to be a big upgrade over Iguchi? Iguchi will probably hit at some point -- his defense will still suck, but he'll eventually hit better. That leaves the two OF spots. All the options I can think of are going to be costly. Baldelli is going to cost the Sox Gio (plus more), Ichiro will probably play out the season, Ryan Church isn't going anywhere... We're in a tough spot. If the guys we currently have don't start hitting, this team is f***ed. I'd like to see the Sox continue building with an eye towards next season by giving Sweeney the LF spot permanently, and maybe make a play for Chris Burke.

    Entourage

QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:46 AM) Entourage busted out a few new moves tonight. Was a surprisingly emotional episode. I've always thought that in the end Drama would end up carrying the crew while Vince fell flat on his back. I have a feeling that's what's going to happen with his "dream project." Haven't there been rumors that they're trying to cut Vince out of the show? Seems like a good way to do it... Have there really? That sort of bums me out -- I'm sort of oblivious to those kind of things, so I wouldn't know. It's tough for me to see the show without Vince, though, considering the rest of the crew is living off him. He almost seems like the most vital character. I agree that tonight was a bit different. I didn't know what Drama was going to do when he got the keys to the car. The ending "Victory!" was classic, though.
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:31 AM) Well, Javy does have the stuff to be a no. 1 or 2.......... He's had the stuff to be a number one or a two for his whole career. What's that gotten him? A career ERA of 4.33 (105 ERA+) pitching over 75% of his career innings in the NL. Don't get me wrong, I think he's primed for a year of a 4.00ish ERA, but expecting him to ever pitch like an ace again for a whole season is quite foolish.

    Entourage

SPOILERS What a very cheerful ending to that episode. I mean, everyone got what they want; Johnny's series is a hit; Turtle gets the girl; Vince and Eric get what they want . The season finale has to be either next week or the following week, but whenever it is, I can't imagine everything working out roses like it did this week.
  5. Fields still not showing much improvement in the K area. After today he is striking out in about 29% of his at-bats, while last year he was at the same number. He is walking more, though -- he's already walked 23 times, almost half as much as last season.
  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 13, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) Jo Blows strikes for the Indians. 7-7 And Jack Cust walks 'em off.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 13, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) and could be the top spect on a lot of teams Hah. Now I know what Dan was talking about in the thread last night...
  8. Pretty embarrassing to hear the Chicago crowd chant "Detroit sucks" in a series that the Bulls will be lucky to take two games in...
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) If we can go 3-3 in our next 6 games, I will be thrilled beyond belief. I feel like I've said the same damn thing all season long. "If we can go five hundred on this road trip here... If we can go five hundred in this next stretch..." When the hell is this team going to make a that puts them above five hundred? I don't want an answer to that question.
  10. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Tad can play areal good 2base and that's a fact. No, you're wrong. It's not a debate if one person is completely and utterly wrong.
  11. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Fathom, he has made some abosultely great plays at second You must be blind.
  12. Worse offense: Bulls (current) vs White Sox? Worse offensive player: Ben Gordon against any of the Detroit defenders, or Tadahito Iguchi?
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) Except when they call up people from the minors, they get instant contributions. Getting Jack Cust was a great move for Beane. Too bad he built such a weak offense... I'd love to have Cust on this team, though. I guess our offense is good enough to get by Pob Mackzuna as our DH. Not like there's a guy out there who can play 1B/DH and who mashes lefties...
  14. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 13, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) But his technique leaves something to be desired. I'm glad you can already tell us by just watching the whole two months of baseball that Chris Young has played -- and I'm sure you've seen every single movement by Young this year, too. Pray tell, why aren't you a major league scout again?
  15. You guys just don't understand -- none of us have never played the game, so we would never understand. With De La Rosa's sneaky fastball, nasty curve that drops fifteen feet, good turn-it-over changeup, all being thrown from fifteen different arm angles, you can't really expect the Sox hitters to do a whole lot. I'll tell ya what, this guy is much better than his record indicates. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he took home the Cy Young this. Don't tell me what his numbers are coming into today, his pitching isn't indicative of the numbers.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 07:33 PM) Well, that was bound to happen. Good thing Ozzie went out to talk to him. We suck (and I still despise the Chris Young trade!). But wait, I thought Chris Young was only going to be a Mike Cameron type player, and everybody knows guys who play above average defense in CF while hitting 30 homers and stealing 30 bases are very easy to find, right?
  17. Game. Worst series win I've ever experienced. The Yankees are going to outscore us 30-2 this week.
  18. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 13, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) I really wish Ozuna was at 2B and Toby Hall was DHing instead of homering for Charlotte. Ozuna and his .241 OBP entering today? That Pablo? Ozuna is useless against righties and would be exposed as an everyday player. He'd improve the team on defense, but he's still useless at the plate.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) It's like before the 4th inning of yesterday. Does it matter though....one run might be enough to beat us. I can't stand watching this f***ing offense. Think of it this way....you have two guys in Terrero and Molina who have no business being in the majors, a rookie in Sweeney who doesn't look comfortable vs LHP, two slumping power hitters in Konerko and Dye, two players in Crede/Iguchi who all they can do it hit pop ups to the right side, and a guy in Ozuna who has an OPS around .500 over the last 100 games or so. We need Uribe to hit two solo homers I guess. If the Sox are shut down today, Walker needs to be canned after this game. I don't know if firing him will do any good, but these guys need a f***ing wake-up call, and realize that slumping for the first 20% of the season cost somebody their job.
  20. Vazquez has no command of anything today. This game is teetering on the brink of bad.
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 13, 2007 -> 04:44 AM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Lol, Podsednik getting impatient with his slow rehab. He should be getting worried, cause Sweeney makes you look like a beyotch. Ouch -- I sort of feel bad for Scott: Scotty's not getting any play at work or at home with Lisa out of town. That's rough...
  22. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 13, 2007 -> 04:07 AM) Never said that he did, but he's far from sucking in AAA, and not every sinigle person we call up will flame out. Gonzalez should be a useful ballplayer for the Sox. He's one of very few guys down there who can actually take a walk, and he can play SS and 2B. Jason, Dan, Heads -- how's his defense? It's decent, IIRC, yes? He should take Cintron's spot next year -- the Sox don't need their bench players making $2 million bucks. And about Iguchi's defense, I never thought his range was great, but it's deteriorated. Even more worrisome is that it looks like his arm strength has deteriorated. On a lot of his double plays this year where he's turning it, he's thrown a lot of loopy throws. He's still pretty good on anything hit right at him, but that's the only positive I can really say about him defensively.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 13, 2007 -> 04:02 AM) Sabres take 15 shots in the 1st period, score twice. They take 5 in the 2nd, 8 in the 3rd, and 9 in 25 minutes of OT and score 1 time. Shoot the puck boys (although it's too late now, 2-0 heading on the road=toast). Tough to shoot when you're playing most of the game in the other team's zone...
  24. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 13, 2007 -> 03:06 AM) He hit it hard up the middle and the Royals had him played perfectly. Had him played perfectly? They were playing at normal double play depth. And the ball wasn't hit hard. Not at all. It didn't even get up off the grass. KC couldn't have asked for a better DP ball.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2007 -> 03:16 AM) His option will be picked up regardless. He adds an assload of value to a team thats built on pitching (especially with the Sox having a lot of ground ball pitchers). Plus you have the organizations lack of middle infield talent and the fact that they will already be looking for a replacement for Iguchi. People have been wanting to boot Uribe out the door for the past couple winters. I really don't know why... there's no readily available option who is clearly better than Uribe. If that happened to show up, great, but that player better be a great defender. I don't think people understand just how many runs Uribe saves with his glove -- he's arguably the best defensive SS in the AL.
