  1. QUOTE(fathom @ May 30, 2007 -> 07:23 PM) I think it's been declared that for a while. As Dick Allen likes to state on here, this is what you get when you go cheap. Should they have gone the Cubs way of throwing money at relievers? 'Cause Bob Howry has a 5.11 ERA this year and Scott Eyre has an ERA over 8.00. Should they have gone the Indians way? Borowski has an ERA over 6.00, Robbie Hernandez over 5.00 and Foulke retired. Kenny has ALWAYS gone cheap with the bullpen. Quite frankly, that's the way to go -- it's stupid to throw money at relievers. Home grow them. That's how the Twins did it (more or less).
  2. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:03 AM) Hawk would love it. He was pimping Collaro on one of the recent broadcasts. Power at the corners, feisty. They were pimping anybody hitting over .250 at any of the minor league levels. It was pathetic.
  3. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 30, 2007 -> 04:40 AM) signing Meche looks great and Moore has won both his trades with Williams so far He has? I'm fairly confident MacDougal will bounce back. If he had a noticeable decline in stuff I'd be more worried. Has he lost stuff? From my watching I don't think so -- he's still in the mid-90s with his fastball and his slider is still there. He's just wild as s*** right now, which is a problem, but I'll give it another couple weeks before I become really worried.
  4. QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:35 AM) OPS has nothing to do with hitting. Thanks for making my night. Haha! QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:35 AM) OPS is the average of slugging and on base percentage. The average of slugging and on-base percentage? No. The sum, you mean? Sum is not average. Get a clue.
  5. QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:31 AM) thome- .288 average, 42 homers, 109 rbis morneau- .321 average, 35 homers, 130 rbis have i proved enough? Thome - .288/.416/.598 Morneau - .321/.375/.559 Thome - OPS+ 156 Morneau - OPS+ 140 Yeah, you're wrong.
  6. QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:28 AM) i pray to god your being sarcastic Prove me wrong.
  7. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) we're losing that matchup of left-handed sluggers. Nah, Thome was a much better hitter than Morneau last year.
  8. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ May 30, 2007 -> 01:47 AM) Right now... I offer the Mets any starter they want (out of Buehrle, Count, and Javy V) for their young OF Carlos Gomez. Unfortunately the Mets aren't looking for pitching as hard as they once were. Gomez ain't going anywhere. He's about as untouchable as they come. Lastings Milledge is a different story. I don't care if he isn't great character-wise, we need some f***ing talent infused into this organization.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 30, 2007 -> 01:10 AM) Danks is our fifth starter. He is a 22 year old rookie that has pitched out of his mind so far. You knew he would have a bad outing. It happens. These games are magnified because the offense decided to take a dump on the field for 2 months. It would be nice to see the offense try and help out after they s*** on the field for 2 months. Wait till it gets warmer outside? Can we still say that?
  10. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) There are 4 different video clips on the hawks main page right now, Keith. I checked them out -- good stuff there. Can't wait for training camp. For those who care about the draft... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/colu...rds-draft_N.htm I'd say Kane or Turris, but that's just going based on what I've read -- I've seen very little of any of the top four players other than some highlight tapes. I did see Kane in the WJCs -- he was one of the USA's better forwards -- but none of the others.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ May 29, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) Chris Young is going to be a damn good player in this league, and is definitely worth more than Mr. 102-108. Young has been fantastic this year -- a .278/.317/.470 line in about 150 at-bats including 17 extra basehits already, that would rank second on the Sox -- and figures to only get better. Six years of, at worst, a Mike Cameron type player or four years of a league average pitcher making $10 million annually? I'll take the former. It'll never be a terrible trade because Vazquez as a league average innings eater holds value, but man, this organization will -- actually, already is -- regret(ing) the day it traded Chris Young.
  12. Tomorrow is the day he gets introduced. This will get me all the more pumped for next year. Comcast better f***ing have it live.
  13. QUOTE(Top Notch @ May 27, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) People don't like Noah because he's a tough, gritty, talkative young kid whose had success two years running now. No, people don't like Noah because his ceiling is extremely limited and when you're picking ninth in such a (proclaimed) deep draft, you want a better/higher ceiling player. He has very little post game to speak of and absolutely no jump shot. This comparison might not be 100% apt, but Noah seems like a much less athletic version of Tyrus Thomas. It also doesn't help the Noah got absolutely MANHANDLED by Oden on college basketball's biggest stage. And Noah isn't strong enough to guard true centers, so he's relegated to a four -- oh, right, we have Tyrus Thomas there. He seems decent on the defensive end and yes, he can rebound, but we need somebody who can put the ball in the hoop from the block. How does Noah help in any of these? I particularly like the, "nobody stepped up and hit a big shot" line. Noah's not going to do that.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 27, 2007 -> 03:55 AM) I'm about ready to proclaim Fields the best 3B in our entire system right now. Really going out on a limb there, huh...
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 27, 2007 -> 05:05 AM) Regression to the means was inevitable for a 29 year old 3Bman who has improved his power each of the last 4 seasons. riiiiiiiiight Yeah, really. It certainly wasn't a "fluke". Fluke would imply that Joe did something abormaly extraordinary, when in reality, he was the same player. His walk rate didn't change a whole lot. His IsO went up about twenty points from the previous season, but that doesn't strike me as a particularly large jump. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I'd take a couple of guesses w/r/t last year -- his BAPIP was up from previous years, and more of the flyballs he was hitting went deeper and thus, out of the yard (61 extra basehits last year -- his previous high was 52). But last year really shouldn't have been unexpected. He's in his prime years and was improving the past couple seasons (79 OPS+ in 2004, 96 in '05, 108 in '06). Will 2006 prove to be his peak year? I'd guess yes, but if he has surgery and comes back just about fully healed, I think he can put up a few 100-110 OPS+ years. And I didn't hear a whole lot of people clammoring for Crede to be traded this winter. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd like to see someone who posted in February that not dealing Crede was going to bite the Sox right in the ass. Plus, I don't think Fields was ready in April. He may not be ready now -- he's just about getting there, I'll say that, but I don't know if it would have been the best idea to have him up on April 1st. It wouldn't surprise me at all to if Fields was putting up a Kevin Kouzmanoff line right now (.217/.285/.400) if he was up here since the season's start.
  16. Unanimous decision in the Leben (sp?) fight? Was I the only one who thought that was pretty much 50/50 and could have gone either way?
  17. Couple of questions: -Any other fights on the card that I should pay particular attention to? -About what time can I expect the Liddell/Jackson fight?
  18. Liddell or Jackson tonight? I'm not the biggest UFC fan but this stuff has caught my interest lately and I'm the one having people over tonight for the PPV. These guys have only faced off once before, yes, and Jackson won? And I don't know how much it matters, when they fought they didn't go at it in the octagon but in the "squared circle"?
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2007 -> 02:21 AM) I can't think of anything good he's done defensively. I won't go far as saying that. He's been pretty good on balls in the dirt this year, and on the few tough 'bunt' plays, he's been good. Nice, Thorton!
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2007 -> 02:17 AM) More terrible defense by AJ, as a good throw gets him easily. Has he had a good throw all year? I know the pitchers don't help him a whole bunch (sans Buehrle), but every once in a while you'd think he'd bail 'em out with a perfect throw right on the bag. ------------ On that Uribe play, if he dropped it, isn't the infield fly still in effect? I'm not quite sure about the infield fly rules.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 26, 2007 -> 02:05 AM) Then he has way too good of control to hang that change to Dukes. That's two different things. Buehrle threw two fastballs inside with the intent of hitting Harris. That's a little different than hanging a breaking/offspeed pitch.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2007 -> 02:03 AM) If that was Buehrle or AJ's call, then that's even dumber. There's no doubt in my mind it was intentional. Oh it was definitely intentional. First pitch waaaaay inside followed by an AJ mound visit followed by a pitch right on Harris' hip. I'm sorry, Buehrle has too good of control for that not to have been intentional.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 25, 2007 -> 11:08 PM) Why not? Some motherf***er gets killed if Dukes gets hit, dawg.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) It seems impossible to get all of our guys in the lineup together. ...waiting for your lineup prediction with Konerko now out. If Crede is out, we're going to be starting three bench players. Uck.
  25. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 25, 2007 -> 04:01 AM) This year, yes, great BB%. I remember a few arguing with me last year that it was great when it wasn't. But I am impressed that it's improved each year, at this rate he will nearly double last season's walk total. I am anticipating his performance whenever he gets called up. Are you at all concerned that his K-rate hasn't improved a whole bunch this season (K'ing in 28% of his ABs this year vs 29% last year)? I know Cheat has commented on it, but I'm interested in your thoughts...
