QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) That's what I said. The only difference is that they wait a year to draft again. And I don't see any problem with that. At the very least, by taking Porcello you're keeping him out of the hands of two of the better teams in the AL, the Yankees and the Tigers. And hey, if you don't sign him and he goes to play for UNC, you're drafting twice in the top 30 next year to add onto any supplemental picks from Dye, Iguchi and Buehrle.

Is the supplemental round going on right now? If so, is ESPN going to show it or is it still 45 minutes of Steve Phillips' s***ty analysis?

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) This raises an interesting point. It is going to take $$$ to keep Pocello from going to college. Detroit may have wasted a pick(which they will get back in new drafting rules) if Porcello decides he can make more $$$ after college and possibly be the #1 pick then. Nope -- if Detroit doesn't sign them, they get the same pick in next year's draft as compensation. Either way it's a win-win situation. That's okay, though, because at least the Sox won't be going over slot! Maybe we can even get Poreda for less than slot!

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) Detroit's not that far of drive. Why don't you all pack up and go root for them. I'm sick of this constant bashing that the White Sox cannot do anything right. It is so extreme it's pathetic. What's so tough to understand? The Sox had a chance to take the BEST HIGH SCHOOL PITCHER in the draft, and they passed because of $$$ issues. I love when people talk about something they have no f***ing clue about.

he gone!

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) where did many mock drafters have porcello going? If he gets to the Yankees, he's gone there.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) They have additional compensation picks, so if Porcello is the pick they're not guranteeing much money for later picks. I'm hoping San Diego and San Francisco have similar reasons for not throwing 8 million at Porcello. I would be perfectly fine with the Sox taking a "lesser" talent in the second round if they're able to land Porcello. Taking Porcello would certainly make a lot of people happy...

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) I haven't paid a ton of attention to the high school guys but Ahren's name is new to me. Is he a reach? He wasn't in PG Crosschecker's first round mock draft, so I'd say yes. Also, folks, be prepared for Porcello to go off the board here. Texas has $$$ (duh).
-
Wow -- what a reach.

Light tower power! Joe Borchard, where?!?!?!

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) Keith Law has no emotion whatsoever. He is terrible... Law knows what he's talking about. I don't mind him...

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) ESPN is in full control of this thing and it' sickening. Can't wait until next year when the time per pick in the first round is moved to ten minutes, and eventually the 15 minutes like NFL teams have. More Steve Phillips analysis!

F*** you ESPN!!!!! I don't want to see baseball highlights, it's the f***ing draft!
-
Matt Bush was a first overall pick. Show Matt Bush highlights~!

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) I'd still bet on him not getting to us. Or, if he does, the Sox not taking him. He's asking for something like $8 million dollars and a guaranteed contract -- I'd love the Sox to shell that out, but I doubt they do.
-
I need John Kruk's thoughts as well! Where the f*** is he?
-
Yeah, I already miss the conference call. Boo ESPN MLB draft coverage.

Going to see Albert Hammond Jr (guitarist in The Strokes) live on Friday, woo-hoo!

Joe Crede to 15 day DL, Josh Fields called up from AAA.
CWSGuy406 replied to marsh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's probably for the better for both parties. Crede tried going the other route -- which I'm not going to bash because of the stories people have told of any back surgery being a big risk -- and it apparently hasn't worked. It also allows the Sox to give Josh Fields the ropes on third base for the rest of the year. It's a shame that Crede has taken such a 'fall' since September of last year, but hopefully the surgery can be successful so we can see (maybe) one more year of 2006 Crede. -
Couple of comments... -For those expecting Milledge + Pelfrey for Buehrle, keep dreaming. If that offer was on the table this winter, Kenny would have jumped on it right away. You think Minaya is going to offer six years each of the afformentioned players for two-three months of Mark Buehrle? -I think Kenny would be best served trying to find a taker for Contreras, get Jose to waive his NTC and offer a reasonably big contract to Buehrle (5/$75). If the Mets would do Contreras for Milledge straight up, I'd be all over that, and I think Jose would waive his NTC for that (big latin influence on New York including El Duque). -Why is any ire being directed at Javy Vazquez? I know the trade sucks, but he (along with the other four on the starting staff) are the last guys who people should be complaining about. If their ERA wasn't collectively around 4.00, this team would be behind KC.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 6/6/07 (L)

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:37 AM) Congrats to the Ducks! //hijack I'm so geeked about the Hawks. I can't wait, there's a chance that the Hawks' last four first round picks are on the ice at the same time -- Kane (if taken), Toews, Skille and Barker. Glad the offseason is officially here. -
Speaking of last year's draft, a lot of us were pretty pissed when Daniel Bard, the other UNC pitcher, didn't fall to the Sox -- IIRC, he was picked just one or two picks ahead of the Sox by Boston. Anyways, Bard hasn't done any better than McCollough (sp?) has done. Bard didn't pitch at all after his season at UNC (I assume he didn't sign?) and this year, in 16 innings pitched, his ERA is close to nine and he's given up 24 walks in just over 16 innings pitched. Another guy a lot of us wanted was Pedro Beato, a DFE who didn't sign with Baltimore (?) the year before. He's doing okay this year but not great -- his ERA is 3.29 in A-ball but none of his peripherals really stick out. The guy the Sox might have missed out on is Miami closer Chris Perez who is a pretty dominant reliever. That being said, I'm not going to bash the Sox for passing on a reliever in the first round.

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) Yes yours is a good point but there is a reason these players sign with Boras, it is to get top dollar. having watched Boras like we all have, that means waiting until the last possible minute which keeps a developing player off the field all summer. In theory I agree with you as a college sr. he should be easier to sign although I'm not sure if he may have eligibility left. Either way the Boras camp always brings a fly to the ointment no matter what. The other poster is right too, as he seems to rep lots of good players. Lots of them turn out to be busts though, like any agents talent. And teams have paid through the nose for a bust. In a perfect world you pick the best player per your scouts and to heck with the agent but its not always like that. If the Sox feel the best player available on the board at #25 is a Boras client, they should take him. All the other 29 teams have to deal with him too. And he doesn't always hold out -- IIRC the Cubs made a Boras pick two years ago (Pawalek, perhaps?) and he was signed immediately after the draft. The Sox have two picks in the top 100 -- money shouldn't be an issue AT ALL here.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 05:04 AM) Well America is retarded, they'd rather watch any sort of bulls*** reality show before a very entertaining game 3. That game was phenomenal in terms of entertainment value. It also hurts that some of hockey's biggest markets, ie Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal and to a lesser extent New York, have are continually not fighting for the Cup or, in Chicago's case, not even within spitting distance of the playoffs. I'd like to see ratings for a hypothetical Rangers - Blackhawks showdown...

Seeing that Chris Young homer is such a kick in the nuts. Kid is going to be a very good player in this league... Why the f*** did Kenny trade him again?
