  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) If we can get Billingsley and Brox for Dye, I'll drive Jermaine to the airport. Yeah, no chance we get both -- I'll take one of the two along with Betemit, though. LA should be the team we're targeting, here. They have some good young talent that the Sox could really use, while the Padres, OTOH, really don't have a heckuva lot in the way of prospects (IIRC). That being said, the more teams interested the better -- more leverage for Kenny is definitely a good thing.
  2. OMG!!!!! Hibachi is going to be a free agent after next year! Arenas is opting out of his contract! Dear John Paxson -- Please sign Hibachi. Thanks, -Keith
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) Wilson Betemit - Struggling ATM as he's only hitting .187. However he also has a .743 OPS, so he has real good plate discipline. Move him into a good hitting environment, and I think he'll really become a solid player. And he can also play some SS and 2B besides 3B, so he's very versatile. Maybe Colletti would have some interest in Crede as well? Betemit is a very intriguing name. He's not a prospect but could perhaps be looked at as a replacement for Iguchi, although he's played most of his career on the left side of the infield. Still, I'd imagine he could do a passable enough job there so the Sox could maybe even look at sending Iguchi to another team. A couple of contending teams could use upgrades at second -- I know Shapiro likes his young guys, but second base has been a black hole for the Tribe, and I wouldn't mind helping out Cleveland if it meant we get a decent prospect. You also have to wonder how confident the Mets are in the Easley/Valentin combo they have right now, as good as they've been in the early going. But I'm getting waaay ahead of myself. If LA happened to offer Billingsly and Betemit, I jump on that in a minute. If they need a backup to replace Betemit they can take Cintron, too. This is very encouraging, seeing articles with scouts talking about how Dye will be a big addition to a team, how teams are still asking about him despite his struggles and how multiple teams are after him. That's awesome -- let's hope he gets hot as s*** over the next four weeks so we can really turn three months of Dye into some good young players.
  4. I think I made a comment on this sometime last month, but one of the nice improvements Gio has made this year (beyond the fantastic K/9 and H/9) has been keeping the ball on the ground more. After a 10-to-5 GO/FO ratio tonight, his season total is up to 1.43. I wonder if that's because of an improved changeup or perhaps some different (new?) type of movement on the fastball.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 12:59 AM) McCarthy looks really good so far tonight. Not as good as Willie Harris, who is 2-for-3 with a walk (so far) and he's scored every time he's reached. f***ing stud!!!
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Now I'm concerned about the velocity for Jenks. His pitch speed was way down today. He shouldn't be sitting in the 91-92 mph range. Those weren't straight fastballs from Jenks, they were that cutter-type pitch that moves down-and-in. Last outing against New York he was hitting a legit 96 on the gun -- that's probably the last thing you should be worried about at this point. Boone Logan rocks, and nice game for Fields today. I now await the Jermaine Dye or Mark Buehrle trade. This team is losing games to bad teams in the NL Central. Time to throw in the towel, although I know the Sox can't really afford to white flag it so early in the season.
  7. Boone Logan eats lefties for lunch. He's going to be a good f***ing LOOGY for this team -- hopefully someone other than Jenks can step up so this team can have a decent bullpen for the coming years.
  8. Hey now. For as much as you bash that trade, if things don't change in a hurry, the deal (at the very least) is going to be a wash and, if Gio or Floyd do anything worth a damn in the majors, it's going to be a winner for the Sox. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) The good news is that Buster Olney said today that Buehrle might go on the market soon, and he'll be the best player available. That makes me sad. Buehrle is one of -- I think I counted five last night on my way home from the Metro -- yeah, five players that I actually enjoy watching. I think I counted Thome, Fields, Boone, Buehrle and Danks. Oh and Bobby Jenks. Six out of 25, that's spectacular.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) I understand why we've struggled this week: Clippard.. On a note totally unrelated to your post, Clippard has impressed me so far. I think he's going to be a nice middle-to-back-end starter for the Yanks. That's the type of guy I would've liked to have seen Kenny get along with Gio in the Freddy G trade.
  10. According to Brenneman we won a World Series in 2006. Why the f*** didn't any of you guys tell me that? Woo-hoo! Defending champs!
  11. I didn't see the game yesterday -- did C-Lee get booed?
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) If you recall, they claimed Freddy's velocity loss was due to the playoffs and WBC and that he'd be back at 94 mph in 2007. My question is, did other teams also believe this? Or did other teams believe that he'd more or less still be the same pitcher who would have to learn to get by with less velocity, thus lowering his value? Value wise, the deal looked pretty good for us -- losing $10 million dollars, a good-but-not-elite pitching prospect and a good-armed project pitcher for a league average pitcher. If Gio gives us just one year of league average pitching, the trade is an easy win for the Sox.
  13. It's unfortunate, but there's not a heckuva lot that could've been done to prevent a year like this from happening, unless you somehow could have predicted guys like Konerko, Dye and Crede just falling into the crapper the way they have. There could have been some things to make this team a little better -- the left-field situation is one, and maybe the bullpen (although I'm only going to criticize the bullpen construction so much, as throwing money at relievers isn't the greatest plan in the world either) -- but even with a reasonable set of "perfect" moves, this team wouldn't be a heckuva lot better than .500 right now, and it certainly wouldn't be so good as to be competing with Detroit and Cleveland. It's amazing that all of the 'collapses' and injuries have (seemingly) just hit this team this season. It's a shame, but hopefully there will be some small bidding wars over Jermaine Dye, (perhaps) Iguchi and whichever starting pitcher goes.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 05:09 AM) There's been a lot of excitement in the A's games recently. It's been a great time to have the MLB package. You watching this A's/Giants game? I just got home, so I don't know what the f*** has happened to force Bochy's hand like this, but the Giants currently have Noah Lowry in RF, Randy Wynn at third and Pedro Feliz catching.
  15. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 06:24 PM) nice #s on johnson....but that 30 HBP has to be a mistake right? Johnson is on ESPN2 right now, just a heads up.
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) I was speaking of just velocity. That's no where near the same thing as saying this:
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) He wasn't the only first round talent to tumble today. Baseball America had him rated 43rd in their May 22nd Top 200 prospects list. I can't say that I didn't want the Sox to take him, but I can say that about a couple of other guys, too, most notably Will Middlebrooks. FWIW, Baseball America's scouting report said nothing of a two-seamer or of any fastball with plus movement, and here's what the MiLB scouting report said about him: I'm sure he'd have more movement on his fastball than four of Danks, Buehrle, Contreras, Garland and Vazquez, though.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:54 AM) Crosby would have the 2nd best 4 seamer in our MLB rotation if we put him in there tomorrow. So he already has a major league ready fastball but lasted till the end of the fifth round. Hmm...
  19. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) no idea... http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/ev...mc=middlebrooks Middlebrooks was taken 33rd overall in Sickels' mock draft and is rated in his top 12 OVERALL hitters. I'm stunned that he hasn't gone yet, but would be elated if the Sox grabbed him this round. I'd be absolutely thrilled.
  20. Here's a clip of Griffith going up against 49th overall pick (WASH) Michael Burgess. It's from a bad camera angle, but you can see some of Griffith's breaking stuff and his (apparent) velocity in the 92-93 range.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:16 AM) Has that Guinn player been picked yet? no
  22. He almost throws sidearm -- slightly above a 'sidearm'. Hard thrower.
