Looks like the Cubs just drafted a guy whose potential is a worse version of David Eckstein. Ick. QUOTE(R.J. @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) Next pick at 149... Who do you want to be there? Middlebrooks, without a doubt. I really would've loved for Harvey to fall to the Sox with that latest pick -- I really think the Sox might have grabbed him. That's too bad, but...

Scouting report on Ely here: http://www.southsidesox.com/comments/2007/...1/24912/107#107

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) Wow, I called that, but in the 2nd round I thought. I know a lot about him. Well...?
-
There goes Harvey, f***. I'd love the afformentioned Middlebrooks.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) Wow Middlebrooks is still available? Would be a great pick this late. I'm liking the scouting report from MiLB. Is he committed to a big time school, Texas U or Rice perhaps, that's scaring teams away? Or is he repped by Boras?
-
Kenny Williams and his scouts will have everybody on their collective knobs if the Sox take Harvey (if he's there) in the third round. The Sox would be getting THREE top 50(ish) talents and would certainly make passing on Porcello worthwhile.

Griffith tidbits and video: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/ev...jsp?mc=griffith
-
Woo-hoo! Nevin Griffith! And Soxtalk's amatur scouts -- myself included -- rejoice!
-
Brian Guinn, a HS kid the Sox worked out with Jackson the other day, is still on the board. Anyone know where he's ranked overall?
-
Desme looks like a great pick for Oakland. Looks like a first round, five-tool talent who fell due to a wrist injury...
-
Again, looking at this second pick the Sox have upcoming, money shouldn't factor into the decision one bit. The Sox should confidently be able to take a high schooler like Griffith and offer enough money to keep him 'away' from college.

Do Atlanta scouts even leave the state of Georgia to do their work?
-
Round two is underway. This is so f***ing stupid, BTW -- the conference call was SOOO much better, we'd be through round 15 by now if this was the conference call.
-
Still 25 picks away, but Nevin Griffith is still on the board.
-
More Poreda stuff here: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/ev...x.jsp?mc=poreda
-
From watching Poreda a bit, one positive is that it looks like he throws that Matt Thorton "easy heat". His delivery is very effortless yet he gets that ball up in the 90s.
-
Burgess is gone.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) Jackson off the board at 45. That sucks. I liked what I read about him, but just didn't want the Sox to take him so early. There's the problem with having ZERO supplemental picks, though.
-
For those who still care, Smoker and Borbon (sp?) are off the bored (that should say board, although maybe it's a Freudian slip with ESPN's s***ty coverage). Nevin Griffith still there, although it's still 50+ picks until the Sox.
-
While I'm on my cursing binge... f*** YOU ESPN WITH THIS BULLs***, I WANT THE f***ING CONFERENCE CALL BACK, NOT EVEN SHOWING THE f***ING SUPPLEMENTAL ROUND MAKING ME WATCH IT VIA THE DRAFT TRACKER!!!!
-
I should also add -- if this Poreda goes on to do great things while Porcello dwindles in the wind, I promise I'll be the first one to say "hey, I was wrong". It certainly wouldn't be the first time. Looking at everything I've read and heard about Porcello, though, I don't know how you can't love just about everything about him. Smart as hell, projectability, great stuff, great command...

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) You're intentionally not listening. This is almost the definition of threadcrapping, what you're doing in this thread. Please, for those of us who would like to listen to people who know ANYTHING about these prospects, just stop. You're here just to rip people. It's a joke. No, Ribbie Rubarb is 100% correct, it's the rest of us who are morons. The rest of us need to get a clue, he's the smartest man in the room.
-
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) I think having a player with a plus fastball with an excellent chance of signing with a good upside is better than wasting a pick so you can get another pick next year...which is your concept. Wasting a pick, you keep saying that. That makes no sense. The Sox can sign him if they go over slot. Hell, reach for a player in the second round if you have to -- we're talking about the consensus BEST HIGH SCHOOL PITCHER HERE!
-
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) You approve of wasting a first round pick instead of picking the pitcher we got???? Wasting? Who said anything about wasting? WTF are you talking about? Do you bring anything unique to this thread at all? No? Oh, right, all you do is b**** about people who b**** about our GM -- not me -- making you just as bad as those very same people. Christ, get a clue.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) So did all the teams before us make a pick that was better than the Tigers? You can't compare the Sox to all of those other teams. Some of them had multiple first round picks and/or supplemental picks; some are in a much different financial situation than the Sox. I'm looking at it like this -- the Sox are a team that should have the $$$ to pay for a player demanding big money. Financially they're in a pretty good spot, especially with a bunch of money coming off the books next season. Their next pick isn't until what, 89? I'm not seeing much of a reason why the Sox passed here.
