QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) omg, local CBS cut away from the marquette Pitt game AHHHHHHHHHHH Awesome game. Things didn't look good when the game went into OT. Pitt obviously had momentum on their side, McNeal had fouled out, and Matthews had four. I was in and out of the game, because the Bears game quite obviously held more importance (although there were two TVs at the place I was at, so the two games were on simaltaneously). James buried key free throws down the stretch, Fitz stepped up and played well, and even Ooose held his own defensively. Helluva win, helluva day! -
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) They have dropped off and yet Tallon stands pat... I don't get what he is waiting for. I guess someone willing to take our junk.... What's he supposed to do? This wasn't supposed to be a 'playoff run' year, unless you constitute sneaking in at the 8th spot as a playoff run. Now that our fate is more or less sealed, it's time to start dropping some dead weight off of the team. Smolinski has been a nice addition in his short time here, but if you can find someone who's willing to give up a fairly decent draft pick/prospect, make a deal. Ditto Lapointe, Cullimore, and Vandermeer. It's going to be tough finding a taker for Aucoin, but if someone is willing to take him for even a toothpick, you have to make the move. That's Tallon's job the rest of this season. And if you can sign Toews to get him acclimated for the last quarter of the season, that might be nice too -- although I don't, in any way, want him rushed, and if it means that Toews would get to free agency sooner by playing a bit this year, then he should probably just play in the A or finish his college season. Also, see if you can resign Handzus. While neither Zues nor Toews figure to be #1 centers next season, both figure to be solid #2-3s.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) We are the biggest free throw shooting joke of all-time. f***in hell Marquette begs to differ. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) Talk about impossible. At least I ended up having half of my team out of the lineup thanks to red cards Aww come on fellas, it ain't that hard. Use the 'Y' pass, or lead pass, to spring your guys for a breakaway. Or go to the corner, make a hard stop, move to the middle of the penalty box and 'Bend it like Beckham' (literally for me -- Real Madrid). Keep tryin, once you learn how to bend it real nasty, it becomes fun as hell.

Samsonov seems pretty useless to me. That's what they want Salmaleinen to eventually be, ie smallish guy with crazy wheels. Plus, the Hawks will have at least three forwards coming in from the A or college next year, not to mention potential free agents like Briere, Drury, and Gomez (I'm fairly sure all are FAs at season's end).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) My thoughts are that Peanut Tillman, Alex Brown, and Cedric Benson are the three most important players going into the game on sunday. If they all play well, the bears should win. If Ron Turner realizes who the better running back is, then I agree that Benson should be pretty important. If it's like last weekend, where he had about four touches going into the fourth quarter, than we might be looking at trouble offensively.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 04:37 AM) Getting to know the characters is imperative to enjoying the show. Knowing their personalities, histories and quirks makes everything they do and say funnier. I was also somewhat disappointed in tonight's episode. The phone in the ceiling trick was hilarious. Other than that, I didn't laugh nearly as much as the past 2-3 weeks. Yeah, it seeme that this episode was moreso getting to the story, mainly with the Jim/Karen thing at the end.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 07:09 AM) Not of any importance, but in NHL 07 for the 360, I traded Aucoin and a 2nd round pick for Samsonov yesterday, no joke. How is that game? Worth picking up? I'm in love with Fifa and College Hoops right now... I can play Fifa all day.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 03:18 AM) We just got our asses handed to us by Evansville. This is the worst f***in defensive effort this team has ever had. This loss is completely unf***inacceptable. Piss poor f***in performance, f*** f*** f*** f*** f*** f*** f***. I'm going to go f***in run into a wall the rest of the night. f*** Find a locker and punch it. Hard. -
Are we really out of contention this coming season?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) Longer explanation is that we still have a great offense, the best in the division. I don't think it's that clear that our offense is the best in the division. Cleveland outscored us last year despite playing in a much worse park to hit. They added a solid top-of-the-order guy in David Delluci, too. That's not to say our offense won't score more than they will this year (although I'd bet against it), but in no way can you make a clear 'our O is the best in the division' statement. -

Nice win tonight at Louisville. My Golden Eagles are finally starting to play some ball. Sucks, though -- Bears game is at the same time as the Marquette/Pitt game this Sunday. Ugh. -
Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?
CWSGuy406 replied to spiderman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 15, 2007 -> 04:46 AM) I'm suggesting a balance. Everything Kenny is quoted as saying in regards to signing Buerhle , Crede and Dye is negative. [...] Big time players attract fans. There's your problem, and the problem of many, many GMs this offseason; your saying that a good player is a "big time" player. Crede is not a "big time" player. To Sox fans he is because what he did for us in 2005, but in reality, he's not one of the five-six best thirdbasemen in all of baseball. Yet he's going to get paid like one. I already touched on Crede a little bit, but the truth is that Joe is never going to be a great hitter because he doesn't walk a whole lot. Oh, yeah, and there's that whole back thing. Kenny's problem isn't with paying big money. He'll pay big money for star players, and I don't think any of the three of the names above are in that category. Maybe Buehrle if the second half of 2006 was a fluke, but I want to see that proven over at least 3/4ths of a season. If Buehrle is his usual innings-eating, 3.75 ERA self, and his fastball speed is back up to 90, not 85-86 like last year, than I'd certainly look at extending him (even at a costly price, ie 4 years/$75 million, but no more than five years). Dye isn't a star because of his age, and the fact that he's never come close to putting up last year's offensive numbers. That's not to say he won't be a solid RFer for the next several seasons, but I would bet against him being a 1.000 OPS player ever again. -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 14, 2007 -> 09:35 PM) Rex won this game for us. This guy deserves Michael Jordan type treatment this week. He's gotten so much s***, a lot of it deserved, this season. I don't ever want to hear the name Brian Griese again. I wouldn't say he won us the game, but I'd give him a 'plus' grade; his only real mistakes were his fumble (should've just took the sack there, you're not going to outrun anybody, much less Julian Peterson) and when he threw behind a wide open Berrian (although Berrian did still have a chance to grab that ball). His long throw to Berrian was money. A gem. If we play like this against the Saints, though, we're going to lose by two scores.
-
I will be extremely negative within ten hours or so, but for now -- W00T!!!
-
Berrian dropped it, but that one's on Grossman. Hit him in stride and it's 28-24.

f*** Ron Turner. FOUR f***ING CARRIES FOR BENSON?!?!?! Embarrassing. Defense has been awful, offense is keeping us in it but not doing a great job. God, I hope he gets that job at Miami. Good riddance.

Flash, I'm just nervous 'cause just about everyone is predicting the Bears to win by at least two TDs...
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) Some of that may very well be the Bears defense simply knowing that they didn't need to win any more for the last few weeks of the year. Combine that with injuries, and the defense could look a lot worse than it really is. This is true. While Tony is right in that the D hasn't been intimidating, guys who shouldn't be out there have been playing significant downs, most notably Devin Hester. I appreciate his Special Teams powress, but the guy can't cover. I can't remember the last time I saw Tillman, Vasher, and Manning Jr all on the field 100% healthy. None of them are true shutdown corners, but all three are good #2-3s.

Without a doubt, Arrested Development. I've getting hooked on some funny series' over the past couple months -- The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm mainly -- I think AD is funnier than both of those. The characters are hilarious, the script/lines are brilliant, and each character has their little 'niche' that makes 'em even funnier. I checked on wiki, apparently they are planning on doing an AD movie, but no new seasons. I'd rather have the opposite, but...

The thing about the Bears QB situation is this -- what makes Griese so much better? Did that guy (quoted above) not watch the Green Bay game? Griese's two INTs were just as bad as Grossman's. I also think more of the problem lies with Turner. Turner isn't as bad as I make him out to be, but why is this team never in the shotgun? You have a 5"9 (or whatever it is) QB who is pretty immobile and you're going to have him run five-step drops on every pass play? Is there a reason for this? Is Kruetz not comfortable with the shotgun snap? So, I think there wouldn't be a huge difference in Griese vs Grossman. Ultimately it will come down to the gameplan. The Bears need to get a lead (even if it's a FG lead) early so they can pound the ball 35 times with Thomic Jenson (preferablly more Benson). If this turns out to be a high scoring affair -- ie if the defense doesn't show up again -- then we're probably looking at one-and-done for the second year in a row.

Nice win at home over WVU. I was worried about how Marquette would respond to WVU's 1-3-1 zone, and it turns out they attacked the middle just about every time down the floor. The free throw shooting was poor, and there were some bad turnovers, but playing at a high tempo, I should expect that from now on (not the poor free throws, although at this point I just assume that they won't make back-to-back on a two-shot foul). This wasn't the true WVU, though. They're a much better shooting team than that and obviously not that sloppy, although part of that was Marquette's defense. Big game Monday (?) at Louisville. Two straight road wins would be sweet. -

Good start for Marquette here. Gotta play up-tempo with West Virginia, because if it becomes a game of half-court ohh-fences ( ), WVU is going to win big. -
QUOTE(Gage Loves Me @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 04:07 AM) 1. I know you were being sarcastic. I was just replying as if you weren't. I ain't to noob to message boards. My bad, then. Just makin' sure... I didn't intend for it to make it seem like I was "calling you out" on bashing the Hawks, although I now see that my post certainly looks that way. Assuming you're older than twelve years old, you've seen a Stanley Cup champ in your lifetime. Quit'yer b****in'...
