  1. Watching Wilfredo Ledezma pitch tonight is so freakin' frustrating. These situations aren't totally, 100% identical, but they're fairly comparable. Leyland had a starter in Zack Miner who had performed reasonably well for most of the year. He also had another starter in Ledezma who had been bounced between AAA and the majors, and who had performed well at both places. Leyland didn't get all sentimental w/r/t Miner when the decision came to bump Miner out of the rotation and Ledezma in; it was made as soon as it was obvious to everyone that Ledezma was a better option than Miner. In Freddy Garcia, we pretty much know what we're going to get at this point in the season. At best, he can give the team seven innings of two-to-three runs, meaning a good start, but by no means a dominant one. At worst, he gives up close to a run per inning. Basically, you have his August -- one good start, one decent start, and a bunch of mediocre to bad starts. Now, I know that recently Brandon's two recent outings haven't instilled a whole lot of confidence in people. And, to that, I say this: I don't think BMac is going to adjust to pitching in the bullpen. Over the past three months, in outings where McCarthy has pitched two or more innings, he has given up a total of four ER in those appearances. Those appearances, BTW, covered close to 30 innings pitched (I think it's 28 right on the button). And don't tell me that McCarthy isn't stretched out, either. I know that if McCarthy were to take Garcia's next scheduled start, he could give the team at least four-to-six innings. After that, you play the matchups and use Haeger/Logan/Riske/Cotts to get you to the seventh.
  2. Without taking too much of the blame off of BMac, whoever called for anything other than a fastball in that count needs to be shot.
  3. Guys, you don't know what you're talking about. If Ozzie were to change now, his team would panic. I think at Soxfest, someone needs to tell Ozzie that the only thing his players were panicking at was when balls were hit out to CF when Mack was out there.
  4. AJ, call for the changeup down the heart of the plate like you did when Cantu was up.
  5. LOLERZ. He brings in Cotts, who will proceed to allow Grudz to score. The Sox will homer, and lose 5-4.
  6. Keep trying to pull that stuff low-and-away, AJ. Don't even make the effort of going the opposite way. Not only does this team stick the knife in you, they twist it slow and painfully. Your 2006 Chicago White Sox!
  7. Ugh, hanging curve from Peralta, and Crede pulls it foul.
  8. This team kills me. They're really not going to lose by one run again, are they?
  9. omg! A guy hit the ball to the opposite field. (Okay, it was center, but I'll take it.) Surprise, surprise, it was JD.
  10. Uh-oh. Is that right? We'll be facing three righties in Boston? Hopefully Brian will be able to get into one game...
  11. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) Don't forget about the possibility to trade for Bobby Abreu or Alfonso Soriano, but a majority of posters were convinced that we were fine with Podsednik in left field..... No, I think a majority of posters thought that unless our pitching staff grew a collective pair, that it wouldn't matter if Shoeless Joe was our LFer.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) It's almost impossible for us to back into the playoffs the way our schedule is. Heh. I'm with Hawk -- I'm glad we're done with KC. We've just been Redmpwned.
  13. At least with Boone Logan up, our booing of Neal Cotts works in more ways than one.
  14. Teahen's about to put the nail in the coffin here. I hate this matchup.
  15. Cunningham with four BBs? Any way to tell how many of those were intentional?
  16. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 02:27 AM) Boy would he look good in a sox uni next season.. I thought people hated Scott Podsednik...
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 02:10 AM) I don't know if this was posted, but Ozzie said on the pregame that Sweeney will be getting a few starts in CF. Apparently our LF situation doesn't need improvement. Are you f***ing kidding me? Somebody in the Sox organization needs to hit Ozzie with something hard over the head. Does he know that his LFer is hitting .223 (!!!!) since the ASB? Does he know that his LFer doesn't have any arm whatsoever? Does he know that his CFer that he insists on sitting every third day is hitting .296 over the ASB? I'll say it right now -- Brian Anderson is a better hitter than Scott Podsednik, and from this point on, will ALWAYS be a better hitter than Podsednik. This is a joke... One sick, f***ing joke.
  18. Couple of comments that I don't think have been mentioned yet... -No reason Thome should have played today. Gload has done a MORE than serviceable job out there the past couple nights. It was absolutely pathetic watching Thome "run" out that double play he grounded into. And, I'm not saying that Thome was dogging it, not at all; but looking at the replay, it seemed like he was running WORSE than Frank Thomas this year. His AB against Gobble in the 8th inning was really, really pathetic, too, BTW. One of the worst ABs I can remember this season. DJ tried to make it seem like Gobble threw him two spike curveballs to get him out, but those last two curveballs were awful. -Podsednik is teh suck. If anyone who sits near or around the Sox dugout could bring a "Free Ryan Sweeney!" sign, it'd be much appreciated from a large portion of White Sox fans. I think it'd be funny as hell if someone in the Scout Seats -- preferably the ones in the first row -- held up a sign like that so it was on TV the whole game. Not that it would actually do anything, but it'd make me laugh. -In that big six run inning for KC, one thing I couldn't understand is why Ozzie called for the infield to play back when the Royals started the inning with runners on second and third with nobody out. The next three hitters were, if I remember correctly, Paul Bako, Joey Gathright, and Andres Blanco. If you even come close to making your pitches on these guys, not one of them is going to make solid contact. Something minor, I know, but I thought it would've been the right move there. Man... Boone looked good. Fastball at 94, good biting slider, and I think he even threw a cutter. Sure sucks, though, that if we are blessed enough to back into the playoffs, he won't be on the roster. Did I mention that Podsednik sucks?
  19. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) Cerbaho-WG you just got owned, son. You know what, I agree. A person saying that there's a conspiracy going on from the Tribune execs against the White Sox, by noting a Neifi Perez and Phil Nevin (hah) trade, is totally, 100% correct. If Cerb didn't make his initial post, I probably would have done the exact same thing. This thread is ludicrous, and deservedly got ripped.
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) Now that I have calmed down a bit since this afternoon, lets look at the big picture. IMO Minny, Detroit and us all have similar schedules. Us being on the road more is really the only big setback. While I understand it isnt last year, after 05, the West Coast doesnt scare me nearly as much as it used to. Now, lets imagine what it feels like in other fans shoes. The only reason Detroit didnt get swept out of NY was because of rain. If Big Mo goes in game 2, its over. The Twins probably have lost Radke for the year, and if he does come back, it will probably hurt the Twins more than it helps. I really think he is done. Santana was the only one that could have saved them from a sweep at home from the Royals. A rotation of Santana-Silva-Garza-Boosner-Baker down the stretch doesnt send chills down my spine. If I am being biased, tell me, but I really dont think I am. The Twins also have a couple of guys -- namely Nick Punto, Jason Bartlett, and Jason Tyner -- who are playing well over their heads right now. And, while a month of games isn't too much, I can't see all three of these guys continuing to hit .300+, even if it is without any slugging whatsoever.
  21. Northwestern up 21-3 on Miami going to the 4th quarter.
  22. No word on who might be going to San Diego, although the rumors earlier in the day made it seem like Kattaras, the SD catcher, was going. He's doing very poorly this year in AAA, I think. I can't believe I actually wanted the Sox to trade Fields for this catcher...
