  1. ''I don't care about Frank right now,'' Guillen said. ''If Frank gets a base hit, it takes five hits to score him." Yeah, Ozzie, it's not like we have anybody like that.
  2. BTW, I didn't see the Mackowiak screw-up. Was it the usual, bad read type play?
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 05:37 AM) Why would you trade 290 40 100 for bullpen arms? You didn't get the memo? 1.000 OPS guys grow on trees.
  4. Pathetic. Embarrassing. ANOTHER blown shot to gain a game on a team. Now four behind Detroit, still two behind Minny. Hurry up and get these 15 games over with.
  5. Minny was down two to Oakland about a week ago (Wharris posted it), managed to come back. Minny was down two tonight vs Cleveland, and managed to come back, despite losing later. Does anybody have 1/10th the confidence in OUR team to comeback, despite the fact that we've scored what, 100 more runs this year? This is f***ing unreal. Our pitching has done okay tonight. Oh, wait Marco Scutaro with another hit. I forgot he was an all-star this year.
  6. Damn this team. Another opportunity to gain a game on a team ahead of us that lost, and guess what? We fail to capitalize and lose. This f***in blows...
  7. Ugh. This sucks... Detroit has something like ten games (including today) with KC and Baltimore down the stretch.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) I'm not totally sure how much Young would actually hurt Garland/Buehrle. Not nearly as much as the occasional Mack in CF has hurt them, I'm sure of that. Young is actually recording more outs/9innings than Uribe (does Texas throw out more sinkerballers than we do? I don't think so but I could be wrong). He's turned more double plays, has a fielding percentage slightly higher than Uribe. His ZR isn't spectacular, but it's not terrible either. At his best, Uribe is probably quite a bit better than Young, especially with that cannon for an arm. But we haven't seen Uribe at his best very much this season, IMO. How good would an infield of Crede, Uribe, Young, and Konerko be? Iguchi is a FA after 2007 IIRC. Yeah, Young actually has more Fielding Win Shares than Uribe. I'll have to take a look at Dial's numbers over at BTF, and Tango's Fan Scouting report. Damn fielding statistics. One of these days, there will be an all encompassing stat that'll make it easier on all of us. I just worry about our range up the middle. Iguchi has very little range, although he is good on plays right to him and on the DP. Uribe seemingly covers a LOT of ground up the middle there. We'd be a better team with Young rather than Uribe, no doubt, but I'd rather not have the defense slip.
  9. If we get Young, I hope it's to play second. He'd be a welcome addition offensively, but he'd hurt Buehrle and Garland a helluva lot, too.
  10. The real question we should be asking is why he isn't playing vs righties more often in LF? What has Podsednik done do even warrant being a platoon partner at this point? Since his poor start to the season (a bad April and May), Ross has been awesome. Post All-Star break, he's hitting .352 with a .402 OBP. At this point, what are we waiting for with Scotty boy? It's not like he's coming around at all. I didn't realize just how bad Pods has been these past two months. He's following up an August, where he put up a .284 OBP, with an even worse .273 OBP in September. So, let's see. He's not coming around, so to speak, there's arguably three-five better options off the bench, and we continually send this pud out there? If you want to know why our offense has struggled in the second half, look no further than the fact that the guy who gets the most PAs in a season has the second worst OBP on the team since August. Luckily Tadahito has picked it up a little bit, or our top of the order might just qualify as the worst in the league.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Uribe's throws on double play balls have been bad; that's it, IMO. Best shortstop otherwise. ^^^ Uribe's taken a lot of crap for his defense this year, yet he's still one of the best out there. He's just had one too many errant throws this year, and, the dropped pop-out didn't help matters.
  12. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) I love this place. I've never said otherwise. What are you talking about? You've been b****ing about the banner since the minute it was put up. If you don't like it so much, I don't think the WhiteSox.com message boards have any banners...
  13. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) So are we going to get a new "The Fuse Is Lit" banner now? And will it also be a joke after we lose 3 of the next 5? So, when are you going to leave? You seemingly hate this place so much, so...
  14. As a last ditch shot in the dark, part of me wants Ozzie to just say "f*** it" tomorrow, and sit AJ, Pods, Konerko, and Thome, and put in Stewart, Ozuna, Gload, and Fields. Such a depressing loss tonight. I'm not pissed so much as just dejected right now. I just keep waiting and waiting on this damn team, and they never produce consistently, night-to-night. And, without sounding too complain-y, it seems like everything is going against us. We finally start getting the pitching, and our offense can't score more than three runs. Detroit throws out TWO runners at homeplate tonight. Minny comes back from a 5-3 defecit against the normally strong Justin Ducherererererer. I knew we wouldn't be catching all the breaks like we did last year, but yikes. The baseball gods are sure coming down on us with vengeance, or so it seems.
  15. As Lee Corso would say... "Goodnight, sweetheart". Chance to take the lead in the ninth, runners at the corners, one out, and Crede K's. Runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs and an MVP candidate standing at the dish. What do you do? Be aggressive on the bases! Yet another opportunity to take the lead, as Ross Gload smokes a double to RF. But, of course, Ross is the only one who can touch Dennis Eck-- err, that's Hector Carrasco. Dustin Hermanson? In a tie game? WTF? And, not that it makes a difference, but thanks for the help Oakland and Texas. And I f***ing hate Jason Tyner, too, on an unrelated note. You better take this all in this year, because next year, your ass is going to be back to the normal .220 scrub that you are.
  16. Will the RallyGage be in attendence...? I think we can touch Santana around a bit (although, before the game, I hope that Walker and Guillen tell the team that they are not, in fact, facing Johan). Ervin has been mediocre-to-bad in his last three starts. We need to continue that trend. The thing I really don't like is Buehrle vs the Angels lineup. Buehrle vs Guerrero + Rivera, specifically, scare the **** out of me.
  17. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) no way in hell you think about this sort of deal unless Brandon Wood or Howie Kendrick is involved. Anaheim will not deal them either, so this is a no go. Yeah, I'd do Figgins and Kendrick for Crede. I'm not thrilled at the thought of Figgins being an everyday player, but Kendrick is one helluva player, and is going to be an excellent second baseman, not to mention dirt cheap for the next five years.
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 05:28 AM) Good thread. It's an interesting topic. I can't believe how well Hurt is hitting. I wonder if he'll pull a Fisk and play 8 more years. If so, he'll be inducted in the Hall as an A. Frank could retire now and should be voted first ballot. Without a doubt.
  19. Looking ahead a little bit: If Ozzie keeps the rotation as is, we would send out Buehrle, Garcia, and Garland against Detroit in our series next week. Sending out Buehrle and Garcia in the same series doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence in me. We have an off-day immediately following this series. If Ozzie wanted to manipulate the rotation, what could he do to get two of Garland/Vazquez/Contreras to pitch in that series?
  20. I'd assume that these gambling arrests have something to do with this email I just received a day or two ago from Doyle's Room (I no longer play there, but they still have my email from way back):
  21. I hate to plug SSS here, but seeing that the minor league seasons are over, and that this part of the board might be down a bit till the AFL and winter leagues, I thought I'd post the interview here for those that didn't get a chance to see it. http://www.southsidesox.com/story/2006/9/3...2732#commenttop
  22. One thing that hasn't been mentioned -- and, I'm stealing this from another Sox fan at another site -- is that one guy who has probably suffered from Frank Thomas not being on the team is Juan Uribe. Last year, it just seemed like Frank had an effect on Uribe's swing. I remember reading about Uribe and Thomas being close and how Frank would do his best to keep Uribe 'on the ball', rather than the flailing we've seen this year. I'm glad Frank is having a great year for the one team I'd root for in the AL if the Sox didn't make it. That being said, I'm also glad Thome is here. Not having Frank, or having Thome, aren't the reason(s) that we're in third place in the Central -- everyone know the real reason, and it has nothing to do with this team's offense.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 03:38 AM) I'll be there, hopefully getting the Sox back on the right track!!! The RallyGage is born?
  24. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) 4 ) WTF WAS JOSH FIELDS UP IN THE ON DECK CIRCLE IN THE CREDE AT BAT FOR! OZZIE MIGHT AS WELL OF JUST SENT HIS SON UP THERE FOR THE AMOUNT OF GOOD IT WOULD OF DONE US! If Crede would've gotten on, you would've needed a hiter who would give you a shot to hit a three run homer. Seeing how useless AJ was today (as were most of our hitters, except Tadahito), our best shot at a three run homer from someone on the bench against a lefty is Fields.
  25. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Who do you think we're dealing with here? You honestly want to stretch out MacDougal considering his arm troubles, or his relatively violent delivery? Guillen didn't pitch Logan/Tracey because he hoped to raise their confidence. Extending MacDougal another inning yesterday with a two run lead, with Thornton available, basically left him unavailable this afternoon. He pitched the day before as well. It's that simple. I agree with you; I wasn't being sarcastic. Yesterday's s***ty effort from the bullpen, turning a nine run lead into a game that our two best relievers needed to pitch in, really had an effect on today's game. If the bullpen does it's job yesteday, we'd have MacDougal and Thorton and Jenks available, but instead -- well, we gave up seven runs in an inning.
