QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 03:47 AM) How do you know so much about the league if you think it sucks? You obviously enjoy it if you know all about these teams. Plus, is it really different in MLB? For the most part, you have the elite -- Detroit, both New Yorks, Minnesota. You have the pretty damn good -- Sox, Oakland, Boston, Anahiem. And the rest. And below the rest, you have the NL (sans the Mets, of course).

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) And with Fields...he's already spent 1 year at AAA. Yes he has stuff to learn, but he isn't going to learn much more in the minors beyond what he could in a year at AAA followed by a year of winterball. He's followed the correct formula, and that should put him in the big leagues next year with someone. The real key point is this; if the White Sox hold on to both Fields and Crede, we're holding onto Fields to let him develop more while at the same time subtracting from the big league club - since trading Fields could net us a different valuable piece for next season from some team that has room to play him. Sure he can. He hasn't mastered AAA yet. He obviously has holes in his swing, as he K'd more times than Brian Anderson did in 2005 at Charlotte. If Fields is up next year, with ANY team, he's going to struggle BIG TIME. He might run into a few more balls than BA did this year and end up with better power numbers, but I doubt the BA or OBP would be much better at all. The difference is that Fields doesn't have great defense to fall back on. IMO, Fields is at least another year away from positively contributing to a major league club. That's why I'd really love to see Fields moved this offseason.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) All those things combine to make it a time to really evaluate what we want to do with Crede. Can we sign him? Can he stay healthy? Can we get something really good back for him in a trade? This team will hurt itself next year if it has to keep Fields at AAA because we still don't know what to do with Crede...even just as a trading chip he could provide the big league club a real improvement next year, but if he's stuck at AAA waiting on us to decide what to do with Crede, then he doesn't help the big league team at all. The Sox won't be hurting themselves if Fields is held in AAA for another year. He by no means dominated the competition at Charlotte. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he had the year he did, but he still struck out over 140 times this year at Charlotte and with the Sox combined, and while an .894 OPS is good, it isn't great considering the park he played in.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Mark Anderson (pick 159):5.5 sacks As a whole I think the upper half of first round picks are overrated. Sure, you get a helluvan athelete, and in most cases, a helluva player, but you also cough up a s***load of money. I really like to see when the Bears have a bunch of 2nd-4th round picks, as Angelo seems to have a real good grasp on those picks. With Grossman's success, his first round pick track record is looking a little bit better, but there still have been some fairly big misses.

A couple of thoughts... -Look for Oneli Perez to get a chance at making the bullpen. His combined totals between Kanny, WS, and Birmingham were (these are all approxomations): ~78 IP, ~0.80 ERA, ~11 Ks/9. The Sox have shown very little hesitation to promote guys directly from Birmingham, and Perez is arguably the Sox' best 'arm' down on the farm (judging by his Ks/9). -I think Boone Logan will turn out to be a reliable lefty in the Sox' pen despite his late season struggles, because there was absolutely no resemblance between the pitcher Boone was in September, and the pitcher he was from late June through August. WTF are Thorton and MacDougal for? I'd say our late inning relief is among the best in baseball (top 5). Past that, however, we have a bunch of unreliable arms. We need at least two guys who can safely bridge the game from the sixth and seventh to the 8th, where Mac/Thorton/Bobby can finish the job.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) What's Cade Mcnown up to now a days? Honestly though, I'm hoping it's Harrington. I'm already sick of seeing Culpepper sit in the pocket for 5 seconds thinking he has all year to throw and then just get sacked. As someone who hasn't seen one 'Phin game this year, WTF is wrong with Daunte? Is he not running as much as he used to in Minny? Not accurate? Arm strength isn't a problem, is it?

Does Billy Beane's s*** work in the ALCS?

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) KW does use his minor league system differently in that he uses them as trade bait. But does that mean he goes into a draft not rying to draft what he things the most talented players around are? He doesn't seriously draft someone wiht the idea of trading him a year from now does he? I have a hard time beleiving that. I don't think Kenny does a whole lot w/r/t the draft. Last year at Soxfest, someone asked him about Anderson Gomes, and KW barely knew who he was. I'd venture to guess that Dave Wilder has 99% of the pull when it comes to the draft. I think the Sox do a decent enough job drafting. Their problem comes from their lack of production in the international market.

I might try and get creative and keep all three of Crede/Uribe/A-Rod. How? Hate to do it, but see if the Angels are interested in a big bat -- Thome or Konerko. You could have ARod play everyday, but let him rotate between SS/3B/1B/DH. Or is asking a star player to do that too much of a 'difficult' thing? This is assuming, of course, that Crede wouldn't be part of the deal to get ARod. If the deal was Crede for ARod + cash straight up, I think you have to do it, seeing that ARod is still a much better hitter, along with Crede's back concerns (plus the fact is, Joe will never be an elite hitter. Even this year, his OPS+ was only 108, mainly stemming from a below average .323 OBP.)

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) That's not a question at all in my mind. Can the Sox afford that left side of the infield, though?
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) White Sox please. Ditto. We'll deal with his unclutch ass. I guess the only question is, ARod at 3B or SS?

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

Bye Bye Minny! How cute, Little Nicky Punto, telling Minny fans that a championship was coming back to Minny. At least you got a little dirty sliding into first base, huh? WOOT!!!! -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) Oh but of course. But I must apologize a thousand times for posting an opinion contra to the express written subject matter at hand in the thread title and discription, not to mention potentially coming into a thread "just to talk s***" Oh, come on, SS2k -- save the BS. This wasn't a thread debating Frank's powress in the postseason. It was a thread chronicling what Frank did, and how he was doing. Nobody said, "Frank is the greatest postseason player ever". Your initial comment was unprovoked, and nothing more than stirring the pot.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Figgins does have a little bit of power...5, 8, and 9 home runs in the last 3 years respectively. Career SLG% under .400.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) In a vacuum, that is somewhat true - Uribe to Figgins is a gain offensively and a loss defensively. But by having our SS be our leadoff hitter, look at what that does to left field... you replace Pods. You could put Crawford out there in the uber-ideal scenario, or heck even Gload. So now, looking at those two moves together and what they get you, you go from Uribe and Pods in the lineup to Figgins and someone with much better offense and similar or better defense in LF. But you can't look at SS defense and put it on a pedistal with LF defense. You're talking about two opposite sides of the spectrum. I'd venture to guess that the difference between Uribe's and Figgins' defense at short is upwards of 10-15 runs. Then again, I'm not that much of a fan of Figgins, period. He's another player in the mold of Podsednik, a no power slap hitter who is better suited towards the bench.

Soxace, you'll have to forgive me. I'm extremely distracted, and in no way did I mean we'd lose "ten points" literally. I actually don't know why the hell I put "ten" down in the first place. I wanted to say ten+ homers and a bunch of points in SLG%, but -- I got distracted by the Mets/Dodgers play that just went down, plus the text message I just got from my brother.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) SO stating that he had a bad playoff series in 2000 is lame? Wow, I guess im just a hater. Yes. It wasn't needed in the thread, period. A pot stirring post, really...
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) Figgins would be an upgrade in OBP over either one. Maybe only 10-30 points over Pods, but still a difference. And better D. As for Uribe, if Figgins plays SS, well... his OBP gain would be huge, and that would allow us to put someone else in left with better overall numbers for elsewhere in the lineup. Figgins over Uribe? The decline in defense would be enormous, and although there'd be an upgrade in OBP, we're also losing ten homers and ten points. It's a lateral move, at best, and more likely, a big mistake.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) Figgins is a slight upgrade over Pods IMO. I liked Figgins alot, but he was Pods-esc this season. If we really want, we can bring Pods back. Why would we trade Crede for something we already have. Give KW a little more credit than that.... Ditto. Come on, Fathom... do you really disrespect and think that lowly of Kenny?
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Once again, nobody is hating on Frank, its pretty lame to drop in the middle of a thread and have nothing of substance to add other than being a cheerleader. You know what else is lame?

QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 04:13 AM) Kazmir + Price is a handful let alone who they're going to get for Crawford + McGee and Davis, along with a Longoria at SS and upton moving to LF. Their future is bright, now they just need to get something/anything for Dukes. Beautox, I think you are misinformed about Longoria. I noticed that you posted this on SSS too about him, I don't think he played even an inning at SS this year. He took a little more than 200 ABs this year, and minorleaguesplits.com is showing that he didn't even take one AB as a SS. They've got him on the fast track to the hot corner. I doubt he's moving back to SS.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Oh and nice job on the censorship, too, but I was altering my post while you deleted it, so I just decided to repost the altered, more mature post. Wow, this is becoming more like a Cubs board everyday...now you remove posts when you don't like what someone has to say, yet you leave your friends name calling posts alone? Who removed a post? I don't think my 'powers' apply to this board anymore, and if they did, I wouldn't use them. I don't think I've ever removed a post in my history as a mod. I find it funny you call me an ass, and then go on to talk about being the bigger man. If you really want me to, I'll delete my post and send it to the gutter. Anti-Frank people have seemingly struck a nerve with me today.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) Allow me to remind those with short memories (most of you, it seems), that if Thomas was still with the Sox, his salary would have been upwards of 10M, due to his option. So before you compare salaries, remember that what the A's got him for we never EVER could have had him for, instead, he would have cost about 3M MORE per year than Thome, for less production. But thanks for playing, n00bs. Now shut up about Thomas, talking about how he's back in the playoffs and the Sox arent. If the Sox were in that division we would be, just so happens we were in the strongest division in baseball, thus inferior teams with lesser records made it. Actually, Thomas talked about how the Sox didn't even discuss buying him out and then resigning him to an incentive laden deal. But that's neither here nor there, as it would've been a big risk to go into the season with Frank at DH. The Sox made the right move. The main backers of Frank in this thread have been backing Frank the whole year, not just in the second half. Yeah -- through his poor first-half, with everybody saying that Frank will never play well again (my oh my have those people mysteriously dissappeared), we backed him. And Frank deserves this opportunity. Glad to see he's making the most of his chance. Mmkay, newb?
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) I Dont recall anyone saying that Frank was the only one who didnt show up. If thats in here please copy it. The whole damn offense didnt show up, but that includes Frank. Then why was it even brought up in the first place? It comes off as snarky, whiney, and really wasn't needed (and I type this realizing you didn't make the initial post, but responded to it) in this thread period.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

Where the hell is fathom, or Flash, or Milkmand? If Ozzie was managing the Twinkies today and brought Jesse Crain (rather than Rincon or Nathan) into a one run game in the 9th, he would've gotten a ten page thread of people talking about how Ozzie couldn't manage.
