QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) I wish Gload would get a chance to win the starting LF spot. He sucks in the OF...but so does Pods. It's amazing how many infield hits Gload seems to get. He has more this year than Pods does in probably 20 pct of the ABs. I didn't see the AB. How did Gload get on? Boy, would I love Thome to lay a bunt down the third base line. It'd be pretty much a guarantee to be a hit, and it would probably excite the team a little bit. Bring a little life to a dead ballclub.
-
Wow -- how far has Scott Podsednik fallen? Ozzie chooses Gload over him in a PH situation against a righty.
-
How the f*** did Konerko not score on Brian Anderson's single up the middle? I didn't see the AB, but Crede was ahead in the count and popped out? WTF?

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) I think Ryan Sweeney has an upside to be a perennial All-Star. He won't K 100x a season (which I love), and has the potential to hit 300+, hit 30 homers (maybe more. His power is finally comming around), and drive in 90+. Plus, he has a canon arm and plays pretty darn good D himself. Ryan Sweeney's SLG% at home: .514. Ryan Sweeney's SLG% away: .396. Sweeney's a guy who has been helped A LOT by playing in that park.

Here we go, folks, AB of the night right here. If Podsednik doesn't get on, he'll finish the night with an OBP lower than .330, and an OPS lower than .700. -

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:56 AM) A trade deadline Yankees get Abreu-get hot Dodgers get Maddux-get hot We get nothing-thats 17-22 folks It would be explainable if we were good at the deadline LOL -- Maddux would get rocked in the AL. He might have a couple week grace period, but AL teams would smoke his 85 MPH junk as much as they do Freddy's (heh -- no pun intended). The reason we suck is because our five starters are s***, not because we didn't make a move. -

If McCarthy doesn't even warm up tonight, I'm going to start thinking that something is going on. He wasn't used in the Minny series, despite the fact that there were plenty of times to do so. He hasn't been used since August 16th. God bless Kenny, Coop, and Ozzie if they're actually stretching the kid out. God bless 'em. -

AJ -- I think I have a good idea on how to get Monroe out. Throw a fastball, preferable 85-87 MPH, on the inside corner. I have not seen this bastard, Monroe, hit an opposite field shot against us ALL YEAR. OMFG. Look at his hit chart at Comerica. HE HASN'T HIT A f***ING OPPOSITE FIELD SHOT ALL YEAR AT COMERICA. Why this team INSISTS on pitching him inside, and going away to slap hitters like Vance Wilson, Jason Tyner, and Pudge Rodriguez is BEYOND ME. This is absolutely un-f***ing-real. -

So many things that I'm pissed about tonight. -Podsednik. 'Nuff said. -Cotts in a two run game after we took some momentum after a homer in Minny, Thorton in a five run game in a laugher? -Contreras? WTF? Looked so f***ing good in the Detroit game a week ago, what the hell happened? -Did I mention Podsednik? -

Is Brandon McCarthy still a reliever on this team? Why isn't he warming up yet? Is he secretly be stretched out or what? -

And this game is over. This f***ing pitching staff... damn 'em. And, because I'm in a crabby mood right now, Free Ryan Sweeney! If Podsednik doesn't get a hit in his next AB, his OPS will fall below .700. That's unacceptable for a guy who isn't a defensive whiz at a non-demanding defensive position. Unacceptable. His OBP will also fall below .330 if he doesn't get on in his next AB. This is a joke. -
That's where you're wrong. 4.80 3.78 5.13 4.73 4.87 If I would've told you that halfway through August, these would be the five ERAs of our starting staff, first off, you probably would've laughed at me, and second, you probably would have thought if what I said was true, that the Sox would be, at best, a .500 team battling for third or fourth place in the AL Central. Want to know what I've taken from these past two series'? a.) We play to our competition. b.) We don't match up well with Minnesota; especially in that POS dome up north. I actually feel extremely confident going into this series with Detroit. The guys will be amped, we've taken it to Detroit this year, and we're coming off of two "letdown" series'. I believe the Sox have a very good shot to take three of four. And if that happens, everyone will be feelin' good again, just like it's been all year long with this friggin' frustrating team.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) I can see Crisp hitting upper .290's-.300 range with an OBP in the .340 range. But his SB percentage is pretty much crap... career wise 70 SB with 33 CS which I dont care much much for and he will give you some HR's but nothing special. I wouldnt be against him leading off for us but Id be against a trade of Freddy Garcia straight up for Coco Crisp. That's fair enough. Honestly, I don't know if trading for Crisp would even make sense, seeing that Dye should be around here for at least the next couple years (assuming we resign him), and Sweeney/Fields already in the minors (although I'd sell high on Fields). I liked Crisp a LOT when he played with Cleveland, and although a .300/.345/.450 line isn't great (especially for a corner OFer), in this lineup, I think it'd be enough.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Why are you trying to argue with me whether we should trade him or not ive already said im for it.. but not just for a corner OF with little pop. Because I think you're overrating Garcia and underrating Crisp. I wouldn't call Crisp a guy with "little pop"; although, if Coco Crisp is truely the player that his 2006 stats show he is (which I don't believe, because of the early season injury -- but I can understand if you believe that), then he certainly fits that bill. I see Crisp as a .300/.345/.450 player for the next couple years. I see an above average defender in LF, and a guy who we could expect Ozzie to use in the leadoff spot because of his speed (15-20 SB a year). Do you not see Crisp as that type of player? Or do you just think we should get something more/something different (prospects, bullpen help, a new SS, whatever it is) for Freddy?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) Why? Because Garcia always has good seasons and than s*** seasons...Right now he is having his s*** season so keeping to his pattern plus the fact it will be a contract year.. Im pretty sure next season we will see the missing 2-3 mph on Freddy's fastball. WTF are you talking about? Garcia's two "bad seasons" (which were slightly below league average, not bad) were in 2002-'03. And no, it's not Garcia pitching to a pattern; it's a guy who now has below average stuff getting hit hard. I actually agree with you that he might gain an MPH or two on his fastball just because he'll want one more big contract. But I don't want to have to rely on that. And if he were, in fact, to come out next year and be throwing 91-93 MPH, that'd be all the more reason to trade him. The guy is getting paid a lof of money right now; if the reason he's lost velocity on his fastball was because he came to Arizona out of shape, then that's embarrassing, quite frankly. And again -- we have a guy in Brandon McCarthy who can do what Garcia does for about 1/30th of the price next year.

Charlotte won 6-1. Sweeney 1-for-4 with a BB, Fields left after one AB (???), Rogo had a double in four ABs. Haeger threw a CG gem, allowing one run on six hits (3 BB, 4 Ks) http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...ox&did=milb Birmingham won 9-3. Getz had a hit and two walks, Lopez had a hit. Corwin Malone pitched decently. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...ox&did=milb Winston Salem lost 4-3. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...ox&did=milb

Hmm... first full season in the big leagues, kid is putting up a .267/.348/.425. Considering that he plays CF, and that he's rookie, I'd say that's pretty solid, really. He always will suck as a leadoff man? Oh, thanks, I didn't know players peaked at age 25. I guess you learn something new everyday...

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) ^^^ That was just not a good move. I'm a HUGE KW fan but he just got greedy with this trade, shoulda left BMac in the rotation and kept CY. You can just imagine the outfield if Young were still here -- I don't think anything would fall between LF and CF with those two (he and Anderson, without even saying a word about Sweeney in RF a couple years down the road) roaming out there. Not to mention the fact that Young has a good shot at being a 30 HR/30 SB guy. Bleh... So depressing. EDIT: Young went 1-for-3 in his debut. :sigh

:sigh We can't have him back, can we?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) Im not saying Id really be against the trade.. Im saying Freddy Garcia is worth Crisp and more so. While maybe Hansen is a bit much id still expect another piece in return. And you still haven't said why Garcia is worth more than Crisp, other than that he's a "big game" (hah) and "battle tested" pitcher.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) How so? A struggling SP but is battle tested and has proven himself in the playoffs >>> a corner outfielder w/ no pop and has only had 1-2 seasons of success and has failed in the spotlight... even w/ the difference in contracts Garcia >> Crisp. a.) This said pitcher happens to have a $10 million dollar contract for next year despite the fact that he's been a slightly below average pitcher this year, and has also lost 2-3 MPH off of his fastball. He also just turned 30. b.) I believe that it took a little longer than just his DL trip for Coco Crisp to recover from his injury. He started off hot out of the gates, hitting .333, but then got injured. He was mediocre-to-bad in June and July, but in August, he's hitting more along the lines of what he did in Cleveland -- .308/.357/.462 is his August line. Considering he's only 26 years old, I think he's a good bet to be a similar or even better player than what he did in his last year in Cleveland -- .300/.345/.465, with 15-20 SBs per year. c.) He's playing out of position this year. Last year with Cleveland, he was arguably the best defensive LFer in terms of getting to balls. The Sox have room to improve their team defense, and LF is definitely a spot where it can get better. d.) Crisp is locked up through his prime years at a reasonable price (five million). Did I mention that we have Brandon McCarthy ready to take the SP spot? Garcia is more important to them than he is to us, with Lester and Beckett the only sure locks to be in their rotation next season. It's a trade that seems to make sense for both teams, although I could certainly see Kenny going in a different direction (Sweeney, Fields, trade for Crawford).
