Jason, I personally don't put a whole lot of stock into BA. I'll look at slugging and OBP over BA any day.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:36 AM) But let me ask you this..does Dunn swing for the fences...YES. I don't want anyone that does that. He's a horrid hitter and his OPS/OBP may be great, but he can't handle the bat. Now Manny thats a freaking hitter. I can care less that he swings for the fences -- he's actually good at it. Very few guys in baseball can put up a .380 OBP while hitting 45+ homeruns and a s***load of doubles. It's worth a whole lot.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) I'll puke if that happens. Nomar = Frank (ie I don't want anyone you can't count on being healthy). Dunn is as over-rated as it gets. Sure he'd be great, but this guy doesn't have a clue how to execute. He went a couple years without a sac fly or something. Pathetic. Resign Paulie..trade for Delgado...keep the rest of the cast in place, add another reliever, deal Duque. I don't feel like getting into it, but... I strongly -- strongly disagree with your assessment on Dunn. That is all.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) there is no way the Sox are going to be able to land 2 big time bats in the off-season. I think it's possible. One via trade -- Adam Dunn or Chad Tracy. One via free agency -- Nomar.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Ya, and for once Hawk wasn't talking out of his arse when he said that. Paulie has been a bright spot as of late. I'm really glad. I'll be so so mad if he walks during the off-season. I'm sick of how underappreciated he is by a lot of Sox fans. I won't be pissed if he walks, but I'll be pissed if he isn't properly replaced.

Gosh -- I hate to say it, but I love Polanco so much. He's a real good hitter.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Everyone missed the joke... Of course, Big Balls is an AC/DC song. I'm much funnier in person. Thinking about the 'Studes' sign still makes me laugh...

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) STOP IT! ^^^^ Nice, Scott and Juan. Don't make an out on the basepaths, now, Scotty.

Official game!
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) I can't imagine Ozzie doing that with the big center field here. Anderson isn't much of a drop-off, in any at all, from Rowand. I think Ozzie knows how good he is out there.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) I hate to b****, but that run on 3rd was huge with the way the tigers are hitting the ball out of the park. Give Aaron a day off. I'd give him a couple nights off. Let Anderson play a little bit, get Rowand's s*** straight.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) we just clinched the playoffs! two negatives = positive. in our case it is all whitesox fans = positive!! now what does it take to go in the playoffs? Uhh -- at least wait till we win the game?

Cheat, are there any gamethreads up at BTF tonight? I looked earlier, and saw the Scoreboard Watch, but no threads...

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) And yet Anderson's injury-limited partial season at Birmingham still surpassed Rowand's full season there in his 3rd-straight full-season at an incremental pace moving through the system... Anderson also only had a whopping 439 professional AB's above Rookie Ball heading into Charlotte. That's the equivalent of ONE SEASON of game experience in the pros and he's in Charlotte hitting .295-.362-.469... You want to look back at his season splits? Takes an adjustment period for every player. Look at Young's first half vs. second half splits... Anderson's going to strike out (as does Rowand), but he will walk more than Aaron, play better defense, provide about equivalent power in his first year, makes the league minimum, and his potential is far superior... what the hell are we waiting for... because Rowand's "blocking him"??? BLAAA!!!!!!!! I'm not saying that he won't be better than Rowand. What I'm saying is that I don't think Anderson, in his first season, will do a whole lot better than Rowand has done this year. Defensively -- you've seen him, I haven't, so I'm just going to stay away from that. He looks like he's got some real good range, but again -- I've seen him play about five games.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) You don't think Anderson would put up a .750+ OPS his first year? ok.. I guess. :sleep He's gone from Great Falls to the Majors in 3 seasons... you think there might be a reason for that? Uhh, Anderson had an .831 OPS last year at Charlotte. That really isn't very impressive for that park... Heck, in his limited time at Birmingham, he didn't even put up an .800 OPS. Frankly, I don't think he'd even come close to an .800 OPS if he played up with the Sox full time next year -- or anyone for that matter.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:27 AM) Nomar Garciaparra. Erubiel Durazo. I'll glady take these two, along with a trade for Chad Tracy. You improve your offense a bunch just by adding these two (not counting Durazo). And, I'm talking Nomar at third -- money talks, and I doubt teams are going to be chomping at the bit to sign him as a SS -- though I could be wrong. His bat makes up for his defensive inefficincies, plus he's versataile, you can hit him pretty much anywhere from #2-6. Make.Me.Happy. No one else. Just me.

Toronto wins!
-
Basically, this Toronto/Boston games is HUGE. Boston loses, and ALL we have to do is win two out of the last five and we're in the playoffs, no one game playoff bulls***. Come on, Toronto... Finish this one off. You too, Baltimore, don't get lazy on me and blow such a big lead.
-
Julio Lugo can hit. I don't care if he has stone-hands on defense, he can hit. I'd love to have him next year. Let him play both MIF positions, and we'll actually have a good RH bat off the bench. Or Jorge Cantu. Love to bring either of those two over here.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) Good Call. The Question I will ask is what reasoning did you use to even think people would vote for #2? Yeah, really. I was hoping people would just let this thread die and not respond to it's stupidity. Ah, well. Guess I'm just as stupid for responding now...

Is Danys Baez still healthy? Is he still the closer? Come on, Borowski, ONE MORE f***ING OUT!!!
-
Chad Bradford gets a 2-0 strike a FOOT off homeplate. Hinske, forced to protect the strikezone that is the righty batters-box, grounds out weakly. The ump just f***ed over Toronto BIG time.

Hillenbrand K's with the bases loaded. 7 K's today.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) Can we pinch hit for Arow bring in Anderson or Gload. ^^^^^

Well, Ozzie, at least you got your point across to Ross Gload...
