  1. Well, at least if Buehrle gets out of this inning, he'll be eligible for the win... Right Hawk? Right DJ?
  2. Is that a bat in Aaron's hand, or a nine iron?
  3. Here's the deal. We need a run this inning. Then we need Non-angry Cliff next inning. Then we need not-walking-the-first-guy Neal. Then we need non-last-night-like Bobby Jenks. And I said Jay-nks, not -- that other word.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) AJP should be batting 7th. It's amazing him and PK haven't hit into more double plays than they have. I'd bat him ninth now. Move everyone up a spot, stick AJ in the nine spot. Maybe that'll wake him up, as he's clearly swinging straight up right now. When was the last time he homered, anyways?
  5. And he's down 0-2, one more slider and HE GONE.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) Scotty Pods to show us what this team was about earlier in the season. Grounding out weakly? I concur.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) I'd pull Buehrle, and let Politte pitch the 6th. Buehrle has nothing, and his pitch count is up. A Neal Cotts/Cliff Politte combo should get the next three innings.
  8. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) uhm, its called moving the runner over. Yeah, that's an extremely smart move. Because, you know, we're gonna hold Cleveland to just three runs tonight. Hip Hip Hurray for giving up outs!
  9. And the crowd goes nuts as Pierzynski grounds out weakly.
  10. Last night = best Sox game I've ever attended. What a great crowd that was... Really unfortunate that it ended the way it did, but I'll tell ya what -- I might be the only one, but I'm 10x more confident in this team today than I was yesterday. Go get 'em, Mark. We need you.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) Another thing I found funny was, before the season I was reading a scouting report on Mike Brown that's found on TSN.ca: I laughed my ass off when I read this, they say Mike Brown is not a hitter and not intimidating yet that's exactly what he is. He proved that yesterday by nearly killing Marcus Pollard and then laying out Harrington on a blitz. Maybe I shouldn't go to a Canadian website for NFL coverage. And, in 2001, when he blitzed Charlie Batch for the safety (or maybe not, but I'm 99% sure it was a safety or a fumble). That's one of the vivid memories from that season... I remember him blitzing threw the LG/LT hole, and getting Batch on the blind-side. Awesome hit...
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) I absolutely despise the Twins, but that is, for the most part, only when the Sox are still alive mathematically in the race. I was one of the few on here rooting for them last year against New York. And, God forbid we don't make the playoffs, I'd cheer my ass off for Cleveland... so long as Oakland didn't make it. Cleveland is a real fun team to watch, IMO. It's a shame that they're in the Central, or else they'd be one of my favorite other teams.
  13. QUOTE(twisted @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) Sweep you guys think you can sweep the hottest team in baseball when you only got 1 win from the royals! WoW you guys make laugh! BTW Hows it going I am tribe fan name is twisted glad to be here to back up my fellow indians fans that know who will be holding the central division come October 2nd The people of Soxtalk appreciate your spectacular grammar. Thank you.
  14. QUOTE(YTOWN @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) BURHLE v. Jake Westbrook (13-5 since June 1, and 5-1 in last 6 starts) Let's see... In July, he had 4.79 ERA with four unearned runs. In August, he had a 5.10 ERA with two more unearned runs. In September, he's had a 3.79 ERA with one more unearned runs. So, basically, he's been lucky that his offense has bailed him out in these last few months. That, on paper, looks to be the most winnable game for the Sox. OTOH, tomorrow looks to be the Indians best matchup on paper, with their best starter (who, in three starts, has allowed only three runs) facing Garcia. Then again, Garcia tends to pitch to the level of the talent he faces, so he could aslo be lights out.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) Hopefully this meltdown of El Duque shows that in the off-season of the 2 cubans he has to be the one that goes even if we get less in return and pay some of his contract. There might not be a whole lot of teams wanting that contract. I could be mistaken, but I don't think many teams will be clamoring for El Duque. If keeping Hernandez around next year in a long relief, spot starting role means a whole year of second-half-of-this-season Jose Contreras, then I'll gladly keep him on the roster.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) Alot of people have said Borque is a AAAA type player. I hope that is not the case, it would be great to see the Hawks have another young winger step it up. From what I've read over at BHZ, he seems like a player who has a lot of talent, just not always the guy who's giving 100% every shift. In other words, turning it on and off. I don't know how good he can be. Pauly said this last night while we were at the game, and he was right -- I sort of didn't know how to watch the game, 'cause I haven't seen a live game in so long. So, with that being said... he stood out. Like I said, his first goal was real good, a nice wrist shot, and on his second goal, he got lucky, but hey, that's what happens when you put the puck towards the net. He also scored in the fake 'shootout' thing they had at the end, but that whole thing was stupid in the first place. Another guy who stood out was the player Tallon traded Moen for, Holmquist (sp?). I don't know how he did defensively, but he looked decent in on offense. Seabrook didn't play too well. Looked tentative a bit. Barker really opened some eyes. This one time, Iginla was coming up the right side, and Barker rode him down behind the net and pushed him into the boards, a real nice play. Aucoin was good, too. Bolland played, didn't really stick out. He might've had a shot or two, I'm not sure. He also scored in the fake shootout, but, like I said, it was pretty stupid.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Brett Favre just became the 3rd quarterback in NFL history to pass for 50,000 yards, joining Marino and Elway. Lucky for me that Cleveland scored, forcing Green Bay to pass the ball for the rest of the game. Favre came up HUGE for me in fantasy, when Peyton Manning really layed an egg. BTW -- I haven't started Cadillac Williams ONCE this year. I feel like a moron... He looks awesome.
  18. Hawks up 1-0 early on a PP goal by Daze, credit the assists to Arnason and Vorobiev. I was at the game last night with Pauly. Borque can score. I don't know much else about his game, but his first goal was a real nasty wrist shot, top shelf. The second one was a nice little give-and-go with Calder, in which he was behind the net, shot it towards the front, and it hit off a defender's skate. Hawks up 2-0 on another PP goal. Scored by Bell, assisted by Spacek and Wisniewski. Lookout for Wisniewski. He's a little guy, but he played decently last year at the A, and next year will probably have a shot to make the team. Also, Dustin Byfuglian = huge guy. I went into the UC, and the players who weren't skating last night greeted the fans -- talk about a large guy, both ways. And, AJ Baines might not be a great NHL player, but he's a real nice/cool guy.
  19. QUOTE(farmteam @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) I still wanted Suzuki on draft day instead of Lucy, but what can you do. ^^^^ .277/.378/.440 line for Suzuki for Stockton this year. I believe that's high-A, but not 100% sure. Also, a real nice 61/63 K/BB ratio. However, I'm just a little bit more steamed (yep -- still) about Ring over Blanton. Grrr....
  20. Realistically, the Sox couldn't have asked for a better matchup w/r/t the pitching matchup. Tomorrow, Garcia vs. Millwood. This is the game that looks worst, on paper, for us. Millwood has been dominant for this season, and he comes in throwing the ball extremely well. In his last ten starts, he's given up four runs or more ONCE, and that game, he allowed just four runs. We send Garcia, the guy who is the supposed 'big game' pitcher on this team. Well, Freddy -- you want a big game, you want to make up for your pathetic performance in KC, go out and blank Cleveland. Tuesday, Buehrle vs. Westbrook. This game probably looks best on paper for us. Westbrook hasn't been very good this season -- scratch that, he's been decent, but nowhere near as good as last year. Buehrle has gotten it done against Cleveland, for the most part, in the past (without looking at the stats -- I'm just going off memory). And Wednesday, Garland vs. Elarton. Elarton is not as good as he's been pitching, and it's time that some team puts him in his place. I'm not saying our offense is the one to put up a ten spot on a pitcher, but he needs an ass kicking.
  21. QUOTE(AirScott @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) he was doing this last year, even when he was the only threat because teams knew Jonathan Quinn couldn't hit any receivers, and the receivers sucked. remember, there was no Marty Booker, our "#1" was Justin Gage last year. Where was he last week? He's never going to hold up for a whole season. If he does this year, and runs for 1300+ yards, then you can rub it in my face all you want. Until then, he's just an average back who's been a bust as a top (he was picked in the top ten, right?) pick.
  22. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) This is going to be a really s***ty series for Sox fans. Then don't watch, and stay away from the board. "f*** this board", huh? :rolly
