  1. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 04:05 AM) Has he talked about how matt stairs use to be the best bargain in baseball in the 90's? He does nearly every single game stairs makes an appearance. No, see, when Matt Stairs was with Oakland, he was just a softball slugger who couldn't play any defense. A Billy Beane minion, if you will. Now that he's with KC, he's the total professional who can do no wrong.
  2. Hawk was fawning over Zach Grienke again. Has he watched any other team besides the White Sox play? He does realize just how bad Grienke has been this season, right?
  3. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:44 AM) 30 computers in a computer lab > Your bro's laptop Nah, it's just, my brother wants to go about as badly as I'd like to go, and you can only by four tix at a time, so -- I don't want to 'leave him out' like that, if you know what I'm saying (I worded it sort of poorly).
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:40 AM) I'm buying tickets with him. Might want to reconsider your rips kiddo. I'm hoping that I won't need to rely on you guys for tickets, as my brother will be here with his laptop and on this computer looking for tix. That way, you guys can just give the ticket/sell the ticket to (maybe?) someone else down at UofI.
  5. Any guesses on how many runs Rowand has saved for us this year? I'd venture to guess he's about 20 runs better then the average CF'er...
  6. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) who should your playoff ticket go to? hmmmm.................. :finger The one who absolutely beat the hell out of their week one opponent. In other words, not Brian. (obscure fantasy football reference)
  7. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:30 AM) yeah, that's right, YOU did it I sure did. Hey, I'm still pissed that Illinois didn't lossed...
  8. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:30 AM) HEY CWS Hawks training Camp opened today, preseason game saturday vs Calgary!!! Anyway back to the Sox 2-1 CWS!!! You goin' on Saturday? I'm extremely excited to see that opening video, and to clap it up during the national anthem. I don't know if this team will make the playoffs, but they're tough as nails, and I love Tuomo Ruutu, too. Yes!
  9. AJ hasn't had a hit in like two weeks, I think. AJ hasn't had a hit in a long time. When was the last time AJ had a hit? AJ, you can't hit.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) Whenever I think of that play, I get so pissed off. Whenever you think of just about anything, you get so pissed off.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Why is Thomas not an upgrade? When he played for just a little bit this year, it was a huge lift for the team offensively. He hit about the lowest average wise you possibly can, yet still put up an OPS that would either be leading the team or would be second on the team to PK. If he puts up a .240 season, that could be a .950 OPS campaign. He'd be a little rusty, for sure, due to barely having played the past 2 years...but if he is truly, 100% healthy, he is still one of the best power hitters in the league, and will still slug the hell out of the ball. You bring him back to a fairly incentive laden deal(perhaps a Juan Gonzalez deal, where if he only has one at bat for you, you aren't screwed) and there is very little risk at all, and all the reward in the world. JMHO, but I think it would be worth it...just because he can only DH does not mean he's not a valuable player. Wsf, if there was a chest-bump smiley, I'd do it. 'Cause it fits this post. These will have to do...
  12. But you do? QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:07 AM) I gaurantee with 100% certainty that he was taking roids before '01.
  13. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) lefty's don't grow on trees in this organization.
  14. I was sort of mad about that they traded down for Grossman/Haynes, but pissed me off more was the execution of their next two picks. To me -- and maybe this isn't true one bit -- the Bears had no f***ing idea who they wanted at #14 (or wherever) that year. Their pick came, and they then allowed what, one, two teams to pick ahead of them? I dunno, I just didn't like the pick of Haynes at the time. I've defended Angelo in the past, but if they lose again this season, it's time for a new regime. How about bringing someone in here who's been in an organization like New England's? Someone who's seen and been with a winner first-hand.
  15. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) ^ yeah, i wanted texas to win, but if they lossed, oh well, what i wanted more was a good game and that game had everything for a nonpartial fan. I'm sure glad Northwestern hasn't lossed yet... f***, I'm late.
  16. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 02:27 AM) Im not saying playoffs. Im just saying for the rest of the regular season. In the playoffs he can back. Yeah, don't use him the rest of the season, then put him on the playoff roster in the biggest games of the year. Where's Anthrax when you need the 'Brilliant!' cartoons...
  17. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) Haren and Huston are effing studs. If Dan Meyer pans out... :drool
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) Iguchi showed up late. Send him to Japan
  19. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Do you consider yesterday's two innings serviceable? Just wondering. Well, what he's done over the course of the year has been serviceable. Not great, but he was brought in to be one of the back of the rotation guys. We paid $3.5 this year for about a 5.00 ERA out of our fifth starter. Considering what everyone else got, I'm not going to complain. But, his time is up, and McCarthy is the better pitcher right now, so Ozzie needs to stop this sentimental bulls***, and put the better pitcher in the rotation (sorry for being repetitive).
  20. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 04:14 AM) It's no coincidence that we have a better road record. We're not built to play in our own park. I certainly agree with that. That's one of the reasons that if we get there, I'm gonna hate facing Boston. That team is built for Fenway. The Red Sox may not keep the opposition under five runs, but that doesn't mean they won't struggle putting up a ten spot.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) Wow, all I was saying is that if I had to choose between Duque and Small right now, I'd choose Small for the Sox. If we're going to proclaim McCarthy to be Cy McCarthy, then Small deserves some acclaim also. Maybe I got into the Small/Duque argument late, so I'm not sure if I chimed in on the wrong topic. McCarthy is 21. Small is in his mid-30s. When one guy continues to do what he's been doing the past two years (minus two months or so), yes, there's reason for optimism. When the other guy is pitching about two ERA points better then his career line, at the age of what, 33 (?), yeah, that's a little odd. I was responding to you saying that he's proven he can be a capable AL starter, which isn't true...
  22. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) That is basically my perspective. It's not even interesting speculating on what could have been done, this is the team. And divying up blame for this play... The only question is where to start. But we still look good for the division, and our offense still could get hot at the right times in October. Just gotta cross your fingers. There isn't much to say at this point. Even though I've ignored the last line by saying a lot tonight (when I probably shouldn't have), great post.
