QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) This year, yea, it has. But it has much more potential to be great. Huh? They have one great hitter. Vlad. After that, it's a bunch of slap hitters, like Erstad, Figgins, and Kennedy. Finley and Anderson aren't getting any younger, neither have OPS' above .750. Cabrera isn't very good, either. Molina, really, is the second best hitter on their team. That isn't saying much. Contreras would carve up that lineup, IMO.

All you can ask of your GM is to get you to the playoffs. Just, to give the team and city a chance to experience what post-season play is all about. Kenny did it. Regardless of what happens, this has been a successful season. Now, go beat some Boston ass!
-
El Duque's second career save, I think. Come on, Sox, 11 more!
-
If El Duque can throw a scoreless inning here, he's making a real strong case to be put on the postseason roster as an extra reliever. He looks so much better coming out of the bullpen. He's hitting 93 on the gun, I don't know when the last time I've seen that. Plus, it looks like he's got a little more 'bite' on his breaking pitches.

QUOTE(SnB @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) don't even bother keith, might as well just hand me the W I beat Brian by something like .20 points last week -- just because Jason Elam had like two field goals and three extra points. That made me happy. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) What is the fascination with hernandez here? Good inning last night, and I'd rather have him as the ROOGY than Vizcaino. The chances of either of these guys pitching are slim, but I like El Duque for an out or two rather than Vizcaino.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Honest question: Would you rather play the Angels?? To be honest, it does not matter to me either way, just want to hear your views. Without a doubt, I'd rather face Anahiem. I just fear going up against an offense that can be as good as Boston's. LAoA's offense isn't much better than ours. They've scored 13 more runs than we have this year. Pretty much, with that lineup, you don't let Vlad beat you. They have some other decent hitters -- Benji has had a real good year, but other than that, they're a bunch of slap hitters. Figgins, Kennedy, Erstad -- hell, Garret Anderson is having a worse year than Rowand is. It just doesn't scare me a whole lot. Of course, they can pitch like hell, but their ace has had a pretty bad September. Lackey has been good, and Byrd has been decent, too, but I'll take Contreras/Buehrle/Garland over those three for sure. -

That's bittersweet for me. Glad the Sox are winning... But, this (potential) loss for Cleveland might be huge for us, too. Doesn't New York win the AL East with a win today and a Cleveland loss? That will probably mean that New York plays their scrubs tomorrow, meaning Boston has a huge shot at winning. Damn. I don't want Boston in the first round. -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Gload's a lot better hitter than Blum. Fixed.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) I hope Ozzie puts the regular line-up in tomorrow, and not for the wild card race sake. The Sox are a team that can't just turn it on and off on offense, and its possible they will have both Monday and Tuesday of if Cleve/NY/Bos finish in a tie. I'd let each starter get two AB's, then pull 'em. -

Damnit, Carl. Well, I was hoping for two things today -- no injuries, and a good start from Garland. Halfway there; real encouraging performance by Jon today. Maybe one more inning then done? -

I need some help this weekend, guys... Rudi Johnson vs. Houston, @ Cincy. Caddy Williams vs. Detroit sucks, @ TB. Portis vs. Seattle, @ Washington. I'm 99% sure that Williams will be a lock to start for me, but all three of these look like they could do extremely well. And I'm leaning towards Portis as my other back, if for no other reason than he's been pretty reliable... But looking at the stats, in two games (small sample size, I know), Houston is giving up 140+ yards per game, and Detroit is giving up over 115 ypg. Seattle is at 108. This is a tough call, and suggestions? -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 11:21 PM) I would like to say two things. First, the game is on an ESPN alternate feed on satellite if anyone cares. And second, JOE BORCHARD f***ING SUCKS. This is why he will never amount to anything but a pile of s***. Fathom... is that you? But yeah... he's a fourth outfielder on a bad team. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) EDIT: Actually I take the Monday comment back, if Boston wins 2 of 3 and plays a tiebreaker game that means we lost the series to cleveland. Can you essplain? There's a possibility that we still might have to have a one game playoff with Cleveland? My hope is that Cleveland wins the Wildcard. But, first and foremost, I don't want the Sox to get swept in Cleveland. I'm getting picky here, but I want a first-round matchup with Anahiem. I think Contreras could shut down Anahiem's offense like no other.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) They've clinched homefield in the first round just not throughout yet. One more win/New York loss, I think...

What a midseason boost Frank was... 12 homers, 26 knocked in, 16 BBs, a .905 OPS. Would be real nice right now to not have a problem in the three spot, and have #35 right there -- but that doesn't take away from how much he helped this team in his short time. Thanks, Frank.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) Back in black as well. Look in the september to remember thread, kalapse posted some awesome pics. Go Go White Sox and Nah Nah Hey Hey Good-Bye are two other song recommendations.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 04:51 AM) If Rowand continues his 2004 output offensively, then Brian Anderson would be the better choice in CF. If he can produce at least to somewhat of a level of his 2003 but better than 2004, than Rowand would probably be the better choice for next season. That said, if a team like the Yankees which could really use a good defensive CF came along with a good offer for Rowand, I'd take it, and let Anderson start in CF. What's a good offer, though? What do they have to offer us? Cano ain't going anywhere. Would the Sox have interest in Giambi -- if, of course, they ate a whole lot of the contract? I'm just throwing stuff out there right now. I agree that if a good offer comes along for Rowand, Kenny should bite. Even after this 'poor' season, his stock is still going to be pretty damn high.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 04:47 AM) Contreras ain't going anywhere anymore after how he's carried this staff the last two months. Yup. The Sox have one spot of depth right now; pitching. Let's keep it that way. If you're gonna deal a pitcher, trade one of the AA arms -- Tracey or Haigwood. Hands off Chris Young, though.

Anybody Else Looking Forward to This Being Over?
CWSGuy406 replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) No, not at all. The day the Sox season is over, I will be thinking about what this team should do in the offseason. Being a die hard baseball/Sox fan means Sox for 12 months of the year. I will obviously watch more Bears/Hawks/Bulls games, but the Sox are far and away my passion, and I dont want it to just "be over" Good point. It's easy to be a Bears fan. Four-and-a-half months (give or take), most games at a convenient 12:00 noon every Sunday. Being a Sox fan is different. This team is my passion. I've stayed home to watch this team for the past six months watching this team. I've given up other things that I could be at -- like going out with friends, going to football games, etc etc -- just to stay home and watch these guys. And, while the downs suck -- like watching Cleveland beat us two out of three last weekend at the Cell, or getting swept a few weeks back by Anahiem -- the ups are awesome. When Jenks struck out that last Tiger tonight, that moment is one of the best feelings I've ever had. Hell -- last night, I was on my knees, hoping Baez could get out of that jam. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's worth it. We need to win tomorrow to get into the playoffs. That's why it's worth it -- for the moment the Sox get the last out to clinch a playoff birth, and for the (hopefully) moment they clinch the AL Central crown, and all the possible playoff scenarios. -
My mom had this done during the summer. Unfortunately for her, they found a pollup (sp?) -- and the doctors told her that surgery would be required. I'll just say this -- her surgery went well, she's doing fine now -- but those hours during the surgery were probably the scariest eight hours of my life. I hate hospitals... just the feeling that I get from being there. And, it was terrible seeing her in pain after the surgery, once the numbness had worn off. Lucky for us, there was no cancer find in the pollup, and she's doing great today. Just... it's not an experience that I'm looking forward to...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:50 AM) Just wait till Fest...I'll be in a furious mood if Paulie isn't resigned by than. Eh -- I'll have to see what's done. I'm thinking that mine and yours "what the Sox should do this off-season" plan is are going in opposite directions -- I can already tell. Like, the whole Frank Thomas issue. I want to see him back on an incentive-laden deal, you want him gone. I'd love to have Nomar, you wouldn't. I think I agree with you on one thing, though -- I don't want Contreras going ANYWHERE. Buehrle/Garcia/Garland/Mac/Contreras will compete with Oakland and Minny to be the best staff in the AL (actually, in all of baseball).

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Touche...we'll agree to disagree Fine with me. I was getting tired agreeing with everything else you've had to say anyways...
