QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) Ozzie's said he won't be playing the B Team until we clinch...of course he rested Pods and Widger against Santana after saying that.. How many pitches is Garcia at? I hope they take Garcia out soon, let Sanders and Baj finish this one... -

QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) Again, Boston winning is good in my opinion. I hate the Yankees, so them losing and Boston winning puts New York one step closer to missing the playoffs. I'd rather play New York @ New York then Boston @ Boston. If we get to have that opportunity, I mean... -

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) BOS wins 4-3 f***ing bulls***. Lopez hit a liner hard to the warning track, but, RIGHT in the track of Trot Nixon. Yuck. There's more Boston fans there then Oriole fans. Piss me off so much. I still get laughs thinking about IlliniKrush, snb, and me hearing 'em still talking about the 'bloody sock'... :rolly -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) Cleveland is so damn good now, no one should consider it a collapse if the Sox have to win the Wild Card. They didn't deserve to win last night. KC pissed that one away. I won't b****, we played 'em just as many times as they will, but still... -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 05:56 PM) Detroit, KC, probably 20 teams in the majors would love to be in the position the Sox have been the past couple years. Well, the reason I have any faith whatsoever in this team competing in the next couple years is because we have five average or better starters. Buehrle/Garland/Garcia/Contreras/Mac will compete to be one of the best in baseball next year. Of course, there's also going to be a lot of other good staffs out there, too. Minnesota's has a chance to be dominant as well -- Santana/Radke/Silva/Baker/Liriano. W/r/t Konerko, I'd offer him a two year deal at increased money -- two years, $25 million maybe? The Sox should get something from Konerko, beit his production next year via a contract extension/one year arbitration deal, or the two high draft picks.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) wild card is negative thinking division title all the way Why? What's the difference if we get in via the Wildcard, or if we get in via the division title? As Vince from Exile in Wrigleyville said, division titles make nice flags and nice t-shirts; heck, even cool hats, but they sure as heck don't mean a damn thing. ESPECIALLY for the Sox. We aren't like Boston, where there's a severe difference in how they play at home compared to the road. FWIW, we have seven less losses on the road, and two more wins. If we hang on and make the playoffs, playing at The Cell isn't going to help us a whole lot (IMO). I think most of our pitchers throw better on the road anyways, and the only way we have any chance whatsoever of winning ANY round is to have the pitchers carry us. Like I said -- Wildcard or Division Title, just get there.

We played like s*** tonight, again, but at this point, who the hell is going to be picky about a win? JOSE!!!!!

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) As far as tonite goes- I would consider using Borchard as the DH. Everett is just terrible. Borchard resembles a true DH kind of like Hafner. Give him a chance. It can't hurt. I would also like to see Anderson out in LF tonite. Why not? I mean is having Pods and Everett in our lineup helping us or hurting us more? I think hurting us. Borchard:Hafner::Brock Forsey:Clinton Portis. There's no comparison. Why not Borchard? Because there's a better hitter on the bench in Ross Gload. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Of course, we'll all be back next year. That's why it's laughable to see some of the people free-falling off the bandwagon. Of course, they'll be back tomorrow if the Sox win tonight. If all the fans give up on the team for next season, then we're just asking for another 50 million dollar payroll in 2007. Baseball is basically the one sport where attendance plays a huge role in how good a team can be. Yup. When we beat Cleveland Tuesday, I don't think there was a Sox fan out there who didn't think that Wednesday night was ours, and that we'd ride that Crede homerun through the remaining twelve games to a Central division crown. I believe Vince Gallaro said something along the lines of this: division titles make real nice flags and real nice t-shirts, but in the end, they don't mean a whole lot. I totally agree, and, if I had the choice of whether or not to play on the road or at home, I might just choose the former. Why? This team isn't built for the Cell. This is a team built on pitching and defense, yet playing in one of the top five hitters' parks in all of baseball. I know Aaron Rowand makes a lot of spectacular catches as it is, but his range would be a helluva lot more useful in a place like PetCo than here; same goes for a guy like Freddy Garcia, who's going to give up a lot of flyballs -- that's just sort of who he is (lucky for us he's throwing much more GBs this year than in his career). As far as KW and OG... If we don't make the playoffs this year, won't that be five years under his tenure in which we haven't made the playoffs? With the highest payroll in the division each year? I know that he 'tries', but eventually, we need to see some results. But, we have a three game head-start with ten games to go. We need three teams to pass us in order for us not to make the playoffs. I know the Sox have already fallen a lot, but that's a pretty damn hard feat, especially considering our next seven games... -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 03:46 AM) You just dont get it. No, you don't get it. f*** this team. f*** the White Sox. How are they not the same thing? Or, by Soxtalk, is this really a Red Sox website, and by saying 'f*** this team', you really mean 'f*** the Red Sox', and in a totally different light, you dislike the White Sox, so you say 'f*** the White Sox'. Is that it? Get.A.Clue.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 05:36 AM) First televised Hawks game tonight. They take on the Wild at 7:00 on CSN+******* *******Game will only be seen if Comcast isn't a huge sack of crap like it was earlier tonight. Unbelievable. Here are the Hawks that will be dressing, per BHZ: Byfuglian playing -- YES! Other players who deserve a lower-case 'yes' -- Wisniewski, Vorobiev (he played well on Sunday, I've heard), and Borque. Along with, of course, ABC. -
QUOTE(bigredrudy @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Joe Crede is not the big problem on this club.I think it is generally accepted that OPS is the standard by which most people judge offensive contributions from a particular player. Here are the OPS's for the following players. Rowand .743, Everett .748, Pierzynski .744 and Crede .742. In other words these players contribute about the same. Rowand and Crede contribute good defense while Pierzynski does not and Everett not at all. The big culprit in all of this is Everett who is a terrible DH. What do you say to this? Uhh -- Pierzynski's .744 OPS for catchers is only surpassed by Posada, Mauer, Martinez, Varitek, and Pudge (by three points). That makes him about the 'average' AL catcher. Having a 'league average' catcher is not a bad thing, especially when he does such a good job calling the game (or so we hear). Rowand plays a much more premium defensive position then Crede does, too. There aren't many guys who can go get 'em like Aaron can, Tuesday not withstanding. Off the top of my head, these are the following guys who I think have a higher OPS then Crede in the AL -- A-Rod, Mueller, Mora, Cantu (2B/3B, IIRC), Cuddyer (maybe), Chavez, Blalock. There's seven right there, many of them playing in a lot worse hitting parks than US Cellular. Everett, I agree with. He better not be back. What happened to the two-strike approach? Not good enough to just hit singles anymore, eh Carl?

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) Remember, we all felt this way about Jon Garland. It took him a long time to mature. But who knows, maybe this is just a nice, two week hot streak for Crede and he'll return to his old form. Uhh, sorry, I'm not buying that comparison. People were wayyyyy too hard on Garland. Garland was a league average pitcher from 2001-2004, which is PERFECTLY fine for a kid who didn't even reach the age of 25 yet, and didn't spend a whole lot of time (off the top of my head...) playing minor league ball. Just because the organization tried to put him in a spot which he wasn't ready for doesn't mean he was a bad pitcher. Crede, OTOH, has never posted an OBP above .315 (2000 not withstanding, only 14 ABs), and doesn't slug enough to make up for his bad OBP. On a team that's middle of the pack offensively, like the Sox have been, it's not really acceptable to have two mostly-glove, less-hit guys BOTH on the left side of the IF. And, I'll take Uribe over Crede, because he plays a more premium defensive position, and he plays it extremely well, too. Problem is, I don't know who the replacement is. If Fields doesn't put up good numbers next year repeating AA, then he shouldn't be counted on to fill the void. And there's no other in-house options to take him full time. Beltre's name has been brought up, and if you can get Seattle to take some of the money, I'd look into that -- you don't lose any defense, gain some offense (well, this year not withstanding, though it's close with park adjustments), and there's the hope that he can get back towards that 2004 season; hell, even something like his 2000 season (.290/.360/.475). Of course, $7-10 million bucks is a lot to be putting on 'hope', too, but...

Biggest game of the year tomorrow. Come on, Jon, step up. Step up. But what a win. They needed to not get swept this week, and that mission is accomplished. Tomorrow's game can change the whole complexion of the rest of this season. You take that magic number down two more, and then -- well, pretty much gotta take five out of eight from Minny and Detroit. But, one more time, JOE f***ING CREDE!!!!!!!!
