QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) Liriano has a 1.62 ERA in 9 starts in AAA....with 28 hits, 17 walks, and 73 Ks in 61 innings. This guy is head an shoulders better than Loshe and Mays, and is probably less than a year away from being better than Silva and Radke. I have no clue what he's still doing in the minors. I've seen him pitch once, and he's DOMINANT. Easy 97MPH from a lefty. That rotation is going to be deadly. Playing the AL Central is going to be a real b**** in the coming years... Lots of good arms coming through. Sowers from Cleveland, Verlander from Detroit, Liriano. I really hope that McCarthy turns out to be a good #2-#3. I'm not totally sold on Garland continuing to pitch like a #1-#2 (but I think he'll be a damn good #3 for us behind Buehrle and Garcia). I think McCarthy will have a shot at making next year's rotation, but I'm not sure... Ideally, you can keep El Duque in a swingman role, get something for Contreras (maybe he'd do better in the NL?) -- and sign a pitcher that would push McCarthy (and maybe even Garland) down a spot. Man... it would have been really nice if the Sox got Pedro this offseason. Bah -- I'm just crying over spilt milk.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Use green next time. What ever do you mean, Tom? Don't you like 30 year olds who can barely play half a season? Don't you remember the likes of the 'great' Alexander Karpotsev? Damn, man. Valeri Bure... hasn't played a full season since 2000. Just what we need, more cripples. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 06:15 AM) My solution would be to move Dye to 1st and give Anderson an opportunity in RF. If we're not giving Brian a chance, then he should be packaged to another team for a 1B replacment. Our outfield is full for the forseasble future. With the supposed talent developing in our minors we'll have trouble filling positions with Pods/Rowand wearing White Sox uniforms until 2008 (and beyond). It's been said before, but left-to-right Pods/Rowand/Anderson would be one of the weakest hitting OF's in all of baseball. The Sox are going to need power from somewhere. It'll be interesting. We're going to get something for Konerko, be it his production for the next three-four years, or the two draft picks that will come our way through compensation. The FA market is... well, pretty weak. People that shouldn't be getting big money will probably get it. And, there might be one big bidding war for Giles, too. So, a trade would probably need to be worked out. Adam Dunn immediately comes to mind. So does Overbay. I gotta get my mind off the off-season... :headshake :banghead

Hawks are done defensively, unless someone gets crazy and offers a stud blueliner for Thibault. They have their six for this year -- Aucoin, Cullimore, Vandermeer, McCarthy, Spacek, and the rookie who performs best in camp. Next year, Seabrook will be a lock to make the team. Same with Barker. And, unless Babchuk has an extrememly poor year in the A, he'll be up. That to go along with the smaller, speedier guys like Wisniewski (sp?) and Keith. They do need, however, a sniper. Their best offensive prospect, in my mind -- Bolland -- even he seems to be a good second-liner. They don't have any Evgeny (sp?) Malkin's in their system, so they'll probably need to sign or trade for one. -
AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&#

This has been known for a while, now. Over at BTF, I was reading a story about how the BoSox hired a bunch of college type kids, I think they were called the Boston Ambassadors or something like that (they were ushers)-- and they basically told the college kids to avoid Lowe's advances on them. Wierd story... -

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) Colin Fraser is a good prospect, but he's small and certainly not ready for the Show. Kris Beech is a much better physical force in front of the net, and he has much more experience playing professional hockey. Agreed on Fraser. He's never going to be a scorer; I mean, he'll score some goals, but I'm talking about being a 1st or 2nd liner. He'll be the typical third-line center, win faceoffs, and just be one real sonuvva b****. For one thing, he was real fun to watch at the prospect camp, just 'cause of his scrappy style of play. -

I dunno, Kap, they're going to score a lot of goals, but I also think they're going to get scored on a whole bunch, too. Their defense doesn't impress me much at all... -
Uhh -- someone tell Oakland that they're not supposed to win without Huddy and Mulder. Don't look now, but there's a tie for first out West...

So... Timo went 0-fer again. He's down to .223, and his OBP is creeping towards, if not already there, the .260s. But, we don't need Ross Gload. -

I've been reading any hockey-related news that I can 'get my hands of' lately, and a suitor for Thibault that has come up are the 'Yotes. Two interesting names from that team are Mike Comrie and Krys Kolanos. Both are centers, pretty young, and neither has really played to their 'potential' quite yet. I'd do a Thibault + Yakubov swap for either of the two. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 03:53 AM) That's why I really annoyed we missed out on Allison, especially for the price he went at. Off the top of my head, I'd say these teams could be interested in T-Bo; Tampa Bay Detroit Atlanta Los Angeles Phoenix Edmonton Colorado Vancouver Pittsburgh Washington That makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hawks work a deal with Colorado. They need a goalie. I'd love to see Tallon put together a package for Hejduk, but I won't be complaining if it doesn't happen. More likely, we'll probably see a package of picks for Thibault. A second and a third? Just a second? I appreciate all the insight you've brought to this thread... :rolly -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 03:47 AM) They wanted to be around $34M in case the cap went down next season, and to have a crack at the FA's out there in the next off-season. It depends how big the raises for those 3 guys are. If you could get a Lindros on a 1 year deal though for about 1.5 to 2 mill like Allison, they should do it though. With him and Spacek's contracts coming off the books next season, that'd be about what $4 mill freed up in payroll right there. I've heard that Lindros isn't the greatest guy in the clubhouse. If that's true, there's no way I want him anywhere near the 'Hawks... Also, Calder will make about $1.3 million this year per BHZ. That was my mistake, so the raises are going to be for Arny and Bell. It'll be interesting to see what the market is for Thibault, as far as what they can expect in return. Any guesses? -

I've heard that the 'Hawks are now at $34 million? The cap is $39 million yes? I'd stop there. Trade Thibault, get the money down to about $31 million or so. If you can sign someone, great, but they don't need to. Remember, they're going to eventually have to give raises to Arny/Bell/Calder, so I hope they're looking down the road a little bit and have some flexibility. Being about five million or so shy of the cap isn't such a bad thing... -

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) Anyone know Rutuu's health status? I know one of my professors who had season tickets and knew some people in the organization said his shoulder surgery was really botched, and if it wasn't for the lockout he would have missed some time last year. Any updates on how he is doing? Did he play in any of the European leagues? He's fine. He played the World Cup last year (watch his awesome goal from the WC), and after it, had surgery. He probably would have been out for the first half of the season. You can check up on how he's doing on www.tuomoruutu.com. I haven't gone their in a while, but he updates it pretty regularly, IIRC. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) Ugh, I don't like seeing Jenks go two innings right now. He definitely doesn't seem to bounce back good when going out for the 2nd inning, in terms of maintaining his velocity. I'd rather just have him be a one inning dominator right now. Chill out. If you followed him at B-Ham at all, you'd know that he was doing it a ton down there. He's fine.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) This was funny news to me. During my goaltending camp my instructor came out and told us. His assistant is Craig Anderson, who seemed happy but anxious about his future. Really great signing for the Hawks. PS, I like Jimmy Dowd over Nichol anyday. Gritty, FO winner who can do some good things to get production out of Mark Bell. So, as it is now, the lines are... Calder - ??? - Ruutu Bell - Arny - Daze Barnaby - Brown - LaPointe Thorton - Dowd - Guy-we-got-for-Moen/Borque/Vorobiev I'd be fine with that. Not many teams are going to bully these Blackhawks around. That third line is going to be fun to watch, too. Khabibulin becomes the highest payed player in Blackhawk history. Trade Thibault for something -- maybe a package to get a first/second line center? They certainly aren't done. I think this team is one offensive player away from being pretty damn good. -
Blum's three-year splits: As a LHB, 945 ABs, .261/.315/.398. As a RHP, 182 ABs, .220/.290/.346. So, basically, can't do much vs. lefties, but is our best LHB off the bench.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Blum sure looks like he can hit :rolly Yep, nothing like a nine AB sample size.

I got this from BHZ: So, basically, Tallon has put the ball in 'Bulin's court. At this point, it's take it or leave it -- the Hawks got their offer out there, and it's now up to 'Bulin. I'm hoping that they're able to land Palffy or Allison. I realize that Allison has been off-injured, but he's solid when healthy, and he's had a whole year off. Give him an incentive laden contract, and go from there. At least, that's what I'd like to see.
