  1. Sheesh, the ball is just flying out of the yard tonight. The ball that Green hit just flew out of there, easy. 'Bout time US Cellular started playing like a hitters park...
  2. I noticed that the Sox took several JuCo kids in this year's draft. Was that the plan going into the draft, or did it just happen to unfold that way? In an article (by whitesox.com, I think), it said that you'd been following Lance Broadway for several years now. Was he your consensus pick even before his three starts against stiffer competition (like Tulane), or did those starts really push him into the #15 spot? -Keith, Oak Forest.
  3. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 05:37 AM) Last year yes... this year no. It's two months worth of data. I'd imagine by the end of the season, Uribe will end up with a better -- what is it, UZR or RF than Vizquel. BTW -- Vizquel had what people called a good year last season, good for a 95 OPS+. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Juan Uribe put up a 107 OPS+. Personally, I want Juan Uribe -- offense or no offense, and like Cheat has been saying, he seems to do better with a healthy Frank -- to be manning the SS spot into his late 20s. But I like Uribe a lot, so maybe that's just my bias speaking. Mercy, I can't believe I've put so much time into a fantasy trade thread...
  4. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 05:32 AM) Those defensive #s look really good. He is on pace for just 9 errors for the year. Uribe > Vizquel defensively. I belive Uribe has more range + better arm.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 03:04 AM) I fell into this trap last year. Borchard always has these hot streaks that gets you thinkin he may have a shot afterall. He would have to get his average up to atleast .275 before I get excited about him again. If he gets up to .275, Kenny needs to promote the hell out of him and try to drive that trade value up. I'm sorry, but with guys like Anderson and Sweeney and Young, as well as the OF'ers we got on the big club, Borchard would need to hit .330+ to have a shot to stick...
  6. I heard he was gonna talk during the broadcast. Did he have anything of interest to say? DJ usually sucks conducting interviews, so was it just the same old, same old?
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I dont think he is really down on the guy, Its just that since he posts here some posters make him out to be a future stud.... I like him but not as much as some posters seem to go on and on about him. See, that's the thing. I think, even Baj's biggest backers have never said that he's going to be a stud. I'd like you to find for me where someone from ST said that Baj is the second coming of Gagne, because I surely don't recall it. The Baj backers just think that's he's done all that he can do at Charlotte -- and that's true, he dominated Charlotte last year, and is doing the exact same thing this year. Unfortunately, it seems that Ozzie knows everything about a guy on just 8 IP. And, Baj doesn't have good stuff? He's struck out over 11 guys per nine IP over his minor league career, so he must be doing something right... And I agree with Randar -- Podsednik gets piss poor reads on flyballs. He takes some real poor routes... Luckily he's got that speed to make up for (most) of it.
  8. Are there any rules as far as having Jenks up on the 25-man by the end of the year, 'cause he was a waiver-wire pickup? I always get confused on the waiver stuff... Or, is it that he just needs to be on the 40-man?
  9. Props to the bullpen. Real nice job by everyone, Cotts, Viz, and Politte. Go get the D'Backs and the Doddddddddddd-gers on the homestand!
  10. Eric Chavez goes 5-for-5 with 4 RBI's. I guess he was poppin' roids before the game, huh?
  11. Was the trade between the Padres and Athletics Kotsay for Hernandez, straight up? If so, pretty good deal for both sides, even if Hernandez might not stay with San Diego. I heard from some Pad fans that he wants Varitek money...
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) I'd go with Politte still. I don't care about the save. Yeah -- f*** the "closer". Go with who's pitching well -- today, that's Politte. Stick with Cliff, and if he shows no command in the second inning, get Hermy in there. Ozzie did a good job right after Shingo showed he couldn't be closer anymore, he'd go with Marte/Politte/Hermy, and not a set "closer". He needs to get back to doing that. Play the matchups, f*** the "closer".
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) If this game makes it to the 11th, I bet it will be Shingotime. Gong? Two outs.
  14. That fastball to Klesko was called strike three on Thomas, yet ball one to Klesko. In fact, I think Politte's pitch was better...
  15. Uh-oh. Looks like an early sighting of Angry Cliff. We need Good Cliff.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) It's June 12th. If that's the case come September, everyone will have no problem with that reply. However, there's about 100 games left. Well, the people you call the "optimists" -- we realize there's problems with our team. We realize that we don't have all-stars at every position, and that some of our players are garbage. But we also don't dwell on every single bad thing that happens. Just, the constant negativity gets tiresome, especially for a team with the best record in baseball. Do the Sox have problems in their lineup, in their bullpen? Yes, but so what, better that they're winning with all of these problems than losing with 'em...
  17. Mercy -- he left that one right over the plate, a hanger... f***.
  18. Come on, Tad, he got you yesterday -- you get him today.
  19. 2-0 pitch right down broadway, and Uribe fouls it off. Damnit.
