  1. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Crede would get a job with another team just because of his glove and pop in his bat but the drafting of Josh Fields obviously shows what kind of faith the Sox have in him. It's quite obvious that Joe is the weakest link. Teams never draft because of a need on the major league team. They draft the best overall player. Kenny felt Fields was the best overall player, so he drafted him -- not because of Crede.
  2. QUOTE(WhiteSox2005MB @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) I love Willie Harris! Why didn't he play today! Oh, then let me introduce you to Steff. She loves Willie Harris too...
  3. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Better to get that first loss out of the way now... the pressure of an undefeated season would have killed us come playoff time Thanks TRU, that made my day.
  4. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) I can. Marte has established himself. Just because last year he wasn't absurdly good, like the year before, doesn't mean for a second that he's not still an excellent reliever. I agree. If Ozzie even wants to sniff the playoffs, he best use Marte more than just as a situational lefty. EDIT: And G-H-Civic, your race that was at one point close has become a runaway. Jab - 108 Qwert - 60
  5. Depends on the situation. If the lefty is a pretty good LH hitter, I go Marte, no doubt. If he's just OK, I probably go Hermy/Vizcy. The problem is Politte. He's supposed to be our middle reliever, not really a late inning reliever. And, when I think of a middle reliever, I think a guy who can come in the 5th or 6th inning, and get you to those late inning relievers, sometimes going two-to-two-and-a-half. Problem is, Cliff can't do that. We have one long reliever, yet he's our second lefty, so he's also going to be a situational lefty.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) Why not just let Marte pitch the 7th, and Hermanson the 8th? I hate the logic of using Marte as a situational lefty. He's the type of pitcher that needs to get into a rhythm on the mound. I concur. Great post.
  7. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) The funny thing is that everyone ripping on Ozzie for using too many relievers never said a word about it when he made the pitching changes. The fact is that Shingo blew the game. How was Ozzie supposed to forsee that happening? Hindsight is a great thing, isn't it? No, but this is now two days in a row in which Ozzie has used Marte -- clearly our best reliever, and our best reliever the past three seasons, and one of the best left handed relievers in the AL -- as a situational lefty. He's more important than to be used for one f***ing guy...
  8. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) How many closer by committee bullpens have been successful though? Hermanson blew some big ones last year. I also remember a game where Politte dominated the 8th inning and came out for the 9th and quickly gave up two hits. Shingo's command was off today, he usually doesn't leave those fastballs up like that. No one's ever tried a closer by committee, with a good bullpen. Like, when Boston tried it, their relievers sucked.
  9. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) We probably woudn't be down if we had 12 PITCHERS!!!!! Would you go away already? Bringing up another pitcher is a waste of a spot. Ozzie mishandled the bullpen today. Three guys in one inning? No way. Lesson learned (hopefully).
  10. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Looking ahead folks... Gload, Dye, Rowand Let's end this M'Fer. Yeah -- screw what's happened, or what might happen, let's win this f***er right now!
  11. QUOTE(Beastly @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) Mother f***ing b****ass passionless White Sox! :rolly :rolly :rolly You're not serious, are you? I'm confident our offense will bail us out. They will, I'm feelin' it.
  12. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) All through spring, i said that keeping 7 pitchers was a necessity, but no one listened. Evern if it's only for a situation like this that occurs maybe 3 times a year, now we're f***ed. Plus, we have no bullpen for tomorrow. The amount of pitchers isn't the problem. It's the way they were used. Keeping seven relief pitchers is a waste.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) If by some miracle Shingo makes it out of this... the Sox must score or they are screwed. We're out of pitchers... They'll have to go to Garland...
  14. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) Who else do we have? Vizcaino. And there in lies the problem. We have one long relief pitcher, and he was used today. Oh boy...
  15. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) Rowand's avg at .100, whats your point? That just because guys are doing bad in these first three innings, doesn't mean s***. And, Ozuna wouldn't do any better than Crede -- but Jabroni, I think you were saying that half jokingly...? 5-3.
  16. Wow -- Shingo left that one haaaaaanging up there, Blake almost homered -- but didn't. Come on Shingo!
  17. He's so effing good. And (speaking of the Nationals) if Konerko leaves next year, I want Nick Johnson. Only problem is that he's injury prone, but I'd take him.
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Don't believe everything you read. Carlos Lee was the MVP of the 04 ChiSox. If all this was 100% true in this town it would have surfaced long ago. The jury is still out as to whether KW will eat his lunch on the Lee trade. Unlike the rest of you I'm not basing it mostly on what El Duque does. I'm basing it primarily on what AJP, Pods, Vizc, Iggy & the PTBNL do. That's where I see Lee's salary being spent. So far plus points for AJP & Iggy, but minuses for Pods & Vizc. It's a long season. That's what I still find puzzling about the trade. It was a salary dump, IMHO, because people keep telling me to judge the trade not by just who they got back, Podsednik and Vizcaino, but also with what they did with the money. I'm just puzzled as to why they couldn't/didn't get more talent back in the deal. But it's probably annoying to others to see me harping on the deal, so I'll just stop there. Go get 'em tomorrow, Jose!
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) Slow start, solid finish. Nice to see the veteran pitcher able to settle down and give us some innings dispite the bad start. How old is Garcia? I want to say 29, but...?

    ACT Advice?

Anyone have any advice? Besides the obvious of getting a good night's rest, having a bite to eat in the morning? I took a practice one a couple months ago (which my buddy told me is actually a lot harder than the actual ACT, anyone care to comment on that?), and got a 22 -- I know that doesn't look real stellar, but I was sick through the whole test and by the time I got to the last part of it (Science or English/Grammar), I was basically circling in 'C' for all of 'em, at that point I wanted to go home and puke. Also, what should give me a chance to get into some good schools? I'm not aiming for Harvard or Yale, but -- let's just say, Illinois and Marquette. I figure a 25 and I should be in good shape (top 10 % class rank, 23 out of 315), but -- is that true? Any thoughts/comments are appreciated...
  21. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) Sorry but the only people who go to games during the day either are off or don't work, I, myself was at work. So whats the reason the flubs sell out everygame wether its noon or afternoon? Because they dont work. The attendance was near 11k. If I was off school, the Cell is exactly where I'd be. Problem is, I'm not, and I can't take a day off, because I got an ACT on Saturday (wish me well ), and I have a huge AP test for American History coming up in the next couple weeks -- so we're going over everything, 1700-1990's. Anyways -- next year, I'm gonna try to make it to more of the day games in April, because hopefully then, I'll know where I'm going to school.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) I agree with this assessment. Hearing Rowand discuss selflessness on the field one day into the season is a little premature. This is why listening to Hawk can become unbearable. Last year it was "Ozzieball" hype for nearly two straight months, and now he'll compliment Ozzie's "smallball" philosophy until our team falls apart. If Hawk says "Ozzie finally has a club assembled which fits his style" again, I'm going to smash my TV with a sledgehammer. That's my only complaint with Hawk. If we win this year, it will be because of 'Ozzieball', 'Smallball', whatever -- according to Hawk. Really, though, if we win this year, it will be because of good-to-great pitching and more consistency (read: Pods better than last year, Gooch not having too much of a drop off from his last two years in Japan, Dye improving his numbers, etc etc).
