  1. Forgive me for nit-picking, but Vizcaino throws that Slider awfully high in the zone. I hope he tries to keep that down a little more. Come on Sox, pull through -- after Viz gets one more out.
  2. Podsednik -- 0-3, 0 BB's. Can't have a whole lot of that this season. I know it's wrong for me to pick on one specific player, but it's tough coming home and seeing just four hits, especially after what our offense went through on Monday. I'm pissy right now.
  3. f*** -- just got home, offense doing nothing again? How many hits, I know Uribe and Pierzynski have hits, anyone else?
  4. Ill be able to catch this one around 3:10ish, so that's good, but still annoying that I won't see the first hour or so. Since Mark finished up Monday in one hour, maybe Freddy can have a nice, slow, first inning, no runs given up -- just a slooooow pace .
  5. I just got the new issue of Baseball America, and there's some interesting stuff in there about college baseball. They have a top 50 or 100 (one of the two) list of all of the pitchers in baseball. I ought to follow the college ranks more, but it's really unfortunate how little they air college games on ESPN/FSN -- I'm hoping that this ESPNU makes it's way to Comcast. Anyways -- Jason, dan -- or anyone else who follows/knows the college ranks well, I have a question about a pitcher. Ricky Romero is his name. Cal State Fullerton lefty pitcher. He's ranked as the fifth best college pitcher, yet has put up absolutely filthy numbers. 5-1, 1.70 ERA, 40 IP, 30 K's. Ranked the best lefty in college baseball. And, doesn't Cal State have a pretty good rep for turning out players? Any chance we grab this kid at #15? And, Jason, if you've seen him, your thoughts on him?
  6. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Er, slow down a bit people. Buerhle looked great, but A) Hasn't he had a pretty good track record against the Indians? B) It was the first game of the season. Pierzynski looked fine behind the plate, but anything but fine at the plate. He, Pods, and Iguichi looked terrible at the plate yesterday. There were very few flyouts by the Sox yesterday, hopefully that can continue. Don't forget, the Sox were one Jhonny Peralta error away from having runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs, and not scoring anybody(again). Having Rowand hit a bouncer to short with a man on third, and later having Crede ground into an inning-ending DP is not my idea of OzzieBall. No, it was 'We-Got-Lucky'-Ball, but that's OK -- we deserve some of those bounces, it seems like those always go against us. And, Pierzynski didn't look great, but he wasn't terrible. I think it was his second AB, he ripped a liner up the middle, that would have been an RBI single had it not been for the shift they had on him. Plus, he got that ground ball that Belliard bobbled -- they counted that as a hit. And, that's the big test for Freddy this year -- getting more GB outs. Hopefully, he can use his fastball more, and when he uses his breaking pitches, keep them down in the zone. Buehrle was unpredictable yesterday, let's hope Freddy G. is the same.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) And just like that the Twinkies tie the game. As a baseball fan, that hit and run was beautiful. For those not watching -- 3-1 count on Mauer, runners on second and third, one out. Gardenhire calls for the double steal, Mauer hits a grounder that would be an easy DP ball, but since the SS went to cover the bag at second, it was in the hole for a base hit. 7-4 Twinkies on a Jacque Jones homer.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) Hmm...I don't believe the Izzo thing, but that would suck for ESPN if Anthony leaves. He's such a great analyst. I sure wish that Cleveland would grab Stephen A. Smith. He seems to have the answers to everything... I really don't like him, at all.
  9. Wow! Has Olivo's batting stance changed since he's been a Sock...
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) well it depends on what type of comeback you had in mind..... if we were down by 5-6 than yeah last years team would be a lot better suited to make a comeback but if we are only down by 1-2 i like this team because instead of just swinging for the fences(and striking out) we get runners on and move them into scoring position. its a lot more reliable than a luck HR by Konerko at the end. A homerun is the only play in baseball that ensures at least one run. I don't know how you can say that. But, I really don't care how we win. A win's a win, we can analyze what went wrong, but in the end, that increasing number on the left side column is the most important thing...
  11. Link to BA Thoughts? Sox at 12, which is pretty good considering we still have some good prospects down in the A-levels that, with a solid year, could make our overall farm system really good (talking about guys like Gio and Franky Hernandez). Then again, we were ranked first in 2000, correct? But, I think 12 is a pretty fair ranking...
  12. QUOTE(Mathew @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 08:03 AM) He won the MVP then lost 10 contact against lefties. I don't care about the stats, I didn't even play the game, I just though the stats were to blame, but if it's just random then I'm more dissapointed cause it isn't that hard to organise who gets better and worse, like the Madden games do. I know this is sort of cheating, but if you're that mad about it, then just go to edit player in your roster management and make him better...
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) Smoltz return to the rotation? Not Good 1.2IP 7ER GHCiv, great idea on picking up Lowe. I know one game doesn't matter, but 7 IP, 2 ER, and something like 5-6 K's with a good WHIP. And Benitez picked up the save, so that's great news for fantasy.
  14. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Since Rowand didn't say it, I will say that I thought that some guys (ie Lee, Maggs, Valentin) were selfish in the fact that they often swung for the fences in situations where they just needed to move a guy over. It was so refreshing to me yesterday to see Jermaine get Paulie over and then his quote after the game was even more impressive. This one game made me a huge Jermaine fan. Jermaine ripped that ball (or, from what I saw). It was a plus that he got it to the right side, but if that ball's a foot higher, that's a double, easy.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) I missed that quote from Rowand.. can you post that part..? Thanks. Yas and Steff, I misinterpreted/misread it. And, Yasny correctly stated that the writer implied that about Maggs/Valentin/Lee, not Rowand. Sorry for the confusion...
  16. So now Ordonez is/was a bad guy in the clubhouse? Geez-- I realize that Mags didn't do a good job as far as his knee and being honest with us, but why badmouth him as far as the clubhouse? I thought he was the quiet guy who did everything, or most everything, right... This is getting out of hand. Let's move on...
  17. QUOTE(Beastly @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) I felt the same way dude. Its going to be boring...home runs will be few and far between as well as rare. "White Sox baseball...deal with it." I'd comment, but I like Soxtalk too much to get banned from it... Tony's comments will do.
  18. Wow, as a fan of college basketball in general, this is one hell of a game. I'm glad to see Illinois come back, and while I'm leaning towards wanting the Orange to win, I'm rooting for an awesome final three minutes of the game...
  19. One more observation (after watching the replay on Comcast) -- the sound on Comcast is absolutely terrible. They better clean that up ASAP, it was pretty poor...
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) No doubt that AJ and MB were in the rocking chair today. No sooner would Mark get the ball back from the previous pitch, and he would have his sign and be in the windup again. It was a thing of beauty. Groundball, after groundball. I was watching the 1978 (I think that was the year) game where Bucky Dent hti the homerun to win it for the Yankees, and my dad turns and tells me, "That's what was so much better about the game back then than it is today." And he tells me to look at the pitcher, and, just like Buehrle, it was get the sign, throw it, get the sign, throw it. Nice and quick.
  21. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) I honestly have to say, I hate Ozzie ball. It's a boring brand of baseball. The game goes so quick. I feel jipped. I should've gotten half off for the seats I paid. No, but speaking of small-ball, I hope that Hawk doesn't get 'small-ball' happy on the next telecast. Konerko doubled, and Dye's sacrafice was almost a homer -- but, Dye's sac fly was really only the 'small-ball' part of the inning. Rowand's ground ball was more 'we-got-lucky-that-Peralta-bobbled-it-and-sometimes-it's-better-to-be-lucky-than-good, ball' (out of breath). I will, however, agree that this was a superb display of pitching and defense. Either way, awesome win, and go get 'em on Wednesday, Freddy and company.
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) The Fundamentals area looked finished to me but it didn't look like it was "set up" for activities from where I was sitting. I could be wrong though... From what it looked like, people were standing up there, almost like they do on the Fan Deck. I dunno, though, I didn't look too much over there, other than noticing it when I walked in...
  23. QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) There were some pretty major renovations to the park, correct? How did they look for those of whom got to go to the game? I sat in the bleachers out in left-center field, and they had the new green bleacher benches in, and I must say, I enjoyed my time out there. How did FUNDAMENTALS look, for someone who sat in the UD? I couldn't look down on it, can anyone comment on that? Oh yeah -- I think the ballpark is gonna look fantastic once all the green seats are infused into the stadium...
  24. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) I dont like the new intros either. What happened to Thunderstruck??? Maybe we can put in a request to Brooks? I like the new intro as far as what's on the screen, but I, too, love them coming out to Thunderstruck.
  25. QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) The NL West is a crap shoot. I think it has become the weakest division in baseball. I think it's a joke how the BBTN guys absolutely dismiss the Dodgers. They all say the Giants will win the West, yet if Bonds is out past July, they'll have no chance. But, it pisses me off, especially when Reynolds said they'll finish worse than the D'Backs. The D'Backs are a f***in' joke. Ortiz sucks, Glaus is an injury waiting to happen, and Vazquez is trash.
