How is Harris gonna be cut? Widger AJ Konerko Gload Iguchi Uribe Crede Harris Ozuna Dye Rowand Pods Everett Perez Buehrle Garcia Garland Hernandez Contreras Takatsu Marte Vizcaino Hermanson Politte Cotts Thomas on DL -- or, not part of the 25 men, with Timo (hopefully, but maybe Harris) going down when he gets back.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 03:02 AM) Yeah, but right now he's playing like a 26th man, especially with the way Ozuna is playing. Ozuna almost makes Willie a waste of a roster spot. I wouldn't be surprised if Willie is one of the cuts, along with Kevin Walker. Well, I'd hope Kenny is smart enough to keep a guy who's a pretty good asset when used right -- and, a pretty damn good defensive player too. What a play by Widger. Nice grab!

And, 48 AB's is about the equivelant to about 20 IP or so...

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) Willie should be sent down. He hasn't shown anything at the plate this spring. Since Ozuna can play 2B, SS, 3B, and the OF we have no use for Willie and his never ending, weakass ground-outs. I'll always find room for a guy with a .366 OBP vs. righties...

Harris, brutal vs. lefties. He has zero confidence against them. It's obvious.
-
ILL (hides in corner) OK -- I'm rooting for MSU, I'll be honest -- but if MSU loses, I gotta have some Big 10 pride and root for the Illini. I can't cheer against the Illini, for whatever reason. I like Weber, and I like Deron Williams play the game. Big 10 Pride...

Anyone have thoughts on him? He's playing in Colorado, what kind of numbers do you think he can put up in that thin air? I know he's a rookie, but, if he's gonna put up better overall numbers than Shea Hillenbrand/Cory Koskie, I'm gonna do it...

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Anyone else at the opening day for the "new" Comisky Park? Oh-my-word. That was a cold the likes of which I've never before expierenced. Ugh. Don't even talk about cold. You're reminding me of (wrong sport) this past years Bears game vs the Texans. BRRRRRRRRRRRRR.... It was f***in' 12 below. My whole foot felt like it was one piece, like a club foot. Mercy, that was freezing... Three friggin' days!

Is it just me, or is this sort of a "duh" stat? Isn't Merkin basically saying, when Contreras sucked, he really sucked, and when Contreras was on, he was damn good. I dunno, that's sort of the way I read it...

QUOTE(AirScott @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 06:33 AM) if not for injuries and the pitching going to s***, the Sox would have won the division last year. Neyer didn't know about Dye, and Dye is less of a question mark than Everett, who would be starting if not for Dye. this team has a lot of question marks (did we get the Podsednik of 03 or 04, will AJ turn it around, will the shaky starters hold form?), that having Everett start in the outfield and somebody else at DH until Frank Thomas returns would just be too many question marks. I know GH-Civ has mentioned it, but if Everett produces against righties like he can (and has done thusfar in Arizona), Dye/Everett would make a great platoon -- unless, of course, Podsednik produces like his 2004 season, which I hope won't happen...

Or, as Mike Wilbon coined it, Ben Jordon.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) Why are you attacking Neyer at all costs? He f***ed up...he admitted it. He deserves criticism for f***ing up, which is being given. But now you are attacking him because he picked the White Sox to win the Central? The Twins had one of the worst offseasons in the league - hell, there could be an argument made that they DID have the worst offseason in the majors, with their most expensive signing being Juan Castro - yet people are still picking them to win the division. The Angels also had a very poor offseason too. Their biggest move was bringing in an aged veteran in Steve Finley to play CF after coming off the best year of his career. They signed quite possibly the most overrated player in the majors in Orlando Cabrera to a 4-year, $26 mill deal. They added one starter - slightly above mediocre inning eater Paul Byrd - to a rotation that was filled with mediocrity last year when there was all kinds of SP available in the offseason. They also got rid of a .280 30 100 .850 bargain of a player in Jose Guillen for a 4th OFer and a SS they will never use. Yet they are one of the favorites to win the division. I have given you 3 examples total of how Neyer could very easily be right...teams can have relatively bad offseasons, even while staying quite active in the market, and still be predicted or even favored to win their division. We lost our starting corner OFers, which were a large part of our power supply of the past few years, along with our starting SS. We now have Uribe coming off his first full good season, Iguchi who has never played in the majors, Podsednik who could be a huge fluke...I'm not gonna do this again...but there are arguments as to why the Sox could win, even while having a bad offseason. All I'm gonna say is to lay off Neyer...atleast he predicted the Sox to win the division. Who cares that he f***ed up? He is one of the few to see the truth! I luuuuuuuv witesoxfan.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) The funny thing is that no one ever even brought up the word "sabermetrics" in this thread. Could it be that because you are a believer in sabermetrics or a "stat-head" that you are defending Neyer at all costs? :headshake Or, is it because you're anti-sabermetric that you call him a hack? He made a mistake, and he apologized for it. Jackie is just arguing that because a guy makes a mistake, doesn't make him a hack...

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 12:38 AM) There was no excuse for Neyer to forget the Dye signing considering he call Dye the best free agent bargain not too long before writing that article. He also blamed his "sources" for forgetting to list Dye. He deserves the criticism. He still apologized for forgetting it (which I'll admit, is pretty dumb -- especially when you consider it your best free agent bargain) -- unlike some of our local writers... (Mariotti)

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) Neyer says without signing Dye, the Sox have (he admits, arguably) one of the 10 worst offseasons in baseball. If they do, then they are better than 10, middle of the pack. Minnesota and Cleveland also don't do much, are middle of the pack. The Sox had some bad luck last year, plus the fact that Minnesota has a very weak infield, means the Sox win this year. Pretty simple, entirely consistent...unless one has a bone to pick. HACK!

Where did Neyer predict the Sox to win the AL Central? Was it on ESPN or something? I don't recall a link...

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/scouting?statsId=4948 ??? His RF was 4.91, .09 below Miguel Tejada's -- who I believe was among the best in RF. The ESPN Scouting Report doesn't say a whole lot...

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) PM me something to recognize you guys by, and I will stop by. I'll be out with a couple of buddies of mine, we'll be playin' bags -- and you know what I look like. I'll have my Borchard jersey on, so that shouldn't be too hard to distinguish, either. Just incase -- you don't have to stop by, but just wanted to let you know... And SS2k, is there a for-sure time as far as the parking lots? If I get there at 11:00, will they be letting folks in yet?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) So let me get the theme of this site right... if you don't pick the sox you're an idiot. if you do pick the sox you're a gas-bag. /seems fair. If you pick the Sox -- and praise every move they made, I think you're in the clear...

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) Somehow Schoeneweis is sticking with them. Is it because he's a lefty? Who knows. But 4 outings is hardly anything even for Krotch. Schoeney should be pretty effective as a LOOGY...

Finale from Tucson Gamethread - 1:05 CT
CWSGuy406 replied to aboz56's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Hernandez is a kid a lot of people like, especially Phil Rodgers. I remember him comparing Hernandez to Pudge. Big year for him ahead, if he repeats his numbers of what he did at Bristol, or comes close, he easily leaps ahead to one of our top five prospects. We're pretty thin at catcher, but if he or Donny Lucy can play (both are solid defensively), we'll be in good shape...
